For me it is his drive to win and not rest on laurels coupled with his vision and technique and (generally) calm head which is required. I would be concerned about Neves, Coady and Moutinho going - the three leaders who have the respect of the rest of the squad.

For me Neves goes for the big money, Coady goes to reinvent style and Moutinho stays.

2 year contract? Fine.

What a wonderful situation the club have allowed us to be in this summer. I would not be giving a 2 year deal to a 35/36 year old who is probably top 3 highest earners (no club would) but we can’t afford to lose him.

So what would you do then?

Give him a two year deal and get him to do his coaching badges and that’s our next manager sorted.
If its 2 years it has to be appearance based. His legs could go at any point now

Can't see him staying. Big shame we didnt give him a proper send off. Most influential player of the Fosun era.
Let down by poor recruitment in the end, I think it's about winning for him and we haven't looked like winning for 3 months because we just haven't had the squad.

We are walking into a lot of trouble...having to replace a whole midfield (as I expect Dendonker also to go) means we will need to replace all 3 and still be no stronger in terms of depth in the squad...inexcusable to put ourselves in this situation.

I can't image this to be true, but if it is something is not right. Manager desperately wants to keep player, club says they have other priorities?
Say what now...

Seems to be what happened with Ruddy.

I’m 100% behind a years extension but he can’t be on the same wages as he’s currently on, surely?!

Again, it seems pretty rubbish management all round not to foresee the situation that we seem to have sleepwalked into where there is a distinct possibility of us losing our only 2 good senior centre midfielders at the same time.

We have literally no cards to play here so if we are desperate to keep Mouts or Neves, with Neves pretty much gone, it means we’ve got to give Joao what he wants.
This. A one year contract on reduced wages pitched at a level high enough to keep him - I dunno, 50k instead of the 100k he's reportedly on.

We need to be very careful about how much change happens this summer. If Neves and Moutinho leave we've literally no midfield; I've not been a fan of them as a pair, they're far too similar for me, and along with the 3/5 at the back mean we sometimes have 8 defensive players on the pitch, but to lose both would be daft. Whatever happens, we desperately need that dynamic central midfielder this summer. As much as I like them, Cundle, Mouts and Donk would be a joke, and a very slow one with no punchline.

He asked for new players in August, they didn’t arrive. He asked for new players in January, they didn’t arrive. He asked for Ruddy to stay, he’s been let go. He asked for Saiss to stay, he’s been let go. And now he’s asked for Moutinho to stay and it looks like he’s being let go.

Like him or dislike him, Lage has been treated with disdain by Jeff Shi and co. He should resign, imo.

He has, but he's never going to do the latter. He's pretty much going to have to try and keep us in the PL with one hand tied behind his back if what we are seeing carries on to it's conclusion.
I'm normally Mr Positive, but what I've seen for the last few days isn't filling me with confidence in the people who are making decisions for our future in this league.

It really has been shocking how he has been treated however I'd still sack him and wouldn't trust him with the total rebuild.

I don’t think he’ll have anything to do with the rebuild. It’s all out of his hands.

As much as I do agree Bruno hasn't been sufficiently backed, he has joined as Head Coach, not a manager. Kind of goes with the territory!
I'm sure he'll have some involvement, but as you say he's Head Coach. His job is primarily to work with what he's got.

I'll be sorry to see Moutinho leave. However, there have been a lot of Mixers arguing (understandably) that we need more 'legs' in midfield plus the ability to attack at pace/centrally.

OK, we lose his experience but it gives us the opportunity to remodel the central midfield - for example, a specialist and physically commanding defensive midfielder such as Paulinho, a genuine box-to-box midfielder, and a creative attacking midfielder such as MGW or Pedrinho.

We can't on the one hand bang on about the slow and limited midfield and then become desperate to hold on to an ageing star who is starting to show signs of decline IMO, and who will find it ever-harder to compete against younger and more athletic opponents.

We won't know what we've got until he's gone. You don't just replace a guy like Moutinho at this level, especially for a club our size and current level of investment, it's nigh on impossible.

I can see the arguments for a complete refresh but not this summer with Neves leaving. We really need to sign him up for at least one year.

I have really enjoyed his quality when he first came, and he clearly is a winner and that may well rub off on others especially the youngsters.

Personally I would give him a year, but I can understand there reluctance to give a two year deal at the reported £100k per week - the best part of £11m over two years but also blocks the opportunity for others like Cundle or MGW.

Right now its unnerving seeing loads of experience going out the door. I guess in fairness there are not going to do that unless they are confident they can secure a replacement and in their judgement it's a better long term solution.

I know everyone has the hump with Jeff and Sellars is the devil but it may just be possible their solutions turn out OK in the long term.

Gutted but can understand the reasoning, I just hope Mendes can work his magic like 2017/18 and 2018/19.

There's an upside.

Fosun have made mistakes along the road, and I think they generally do what's best for Fosun rather than what's best for Wolves; in truth, I'm not their biggest fan. But they aren't stupid and won't be looking to torpedo their investment. Where they tend to come unstuck is their slavish adherence to the concept of value, which is out of kilter with the vast majority of football. This summer they're going to have to grudgingly bend their own restrictions unless they seriously want to end up with the square root of **** all.

We're going to see a number of new players come in, and if enough of them work out then we should be fine. There may even be two or three absolute gems in there, and I honestly believe they'll dig in their pockets on this occasion to make it happen. There's not much about Sellars that fills me with confidence, but our recruitment hasn't been as overtly woeful as it feels when you look at Hwang and Cutrone; there have been some very good buys too.

The one thing that surprises me is that Lage is still in the dugout, because I don't believe they have any faith in him whatsoever, but we'll see how that goes.

I am not convinced our leadership group is all it is cracked up to be tbh. Biggest moments we've not exactly shone even under Nuno, most of that is because most of players aren't top top players to be fair rather than bottle but have to say that FA Cup semi, Sevilla missing a penalty and even Olympiacos we got lucky really.

Should never have gotten overhauled by Spurs either after lockdown (2 wins in last 6) - particularly the Sheff U game they just seemed to freeze.

Fosun are losing it and we are losing all our gems by the looks of it?

Personally have no faith in the "leadership group" and fear for the future.

He’s 35 not 55
Ronaldo is still going strong and he’s 37
There are many many players who were fantastic then after the summer their legs went. Fergie was a master at spotting it before it happened. A 1 year contract with a 2nd triggered by appearances would be fair for everyone involved

Ronaldo also plays at a bit of a poacher now, and is one of the most physically freakish guys ever (probs industrial amounts of HGH as well)

Moutinho’s contract is due to expire at the end of next month and he has been in talks over a new deal at Molineux.
But reports in Portugal claim Roma, managed by Jose Mourinho, are also interested in the veteran’s services and are weighing up a contract offer.
Wolves boss Bruno Lage has made clear his desire for Moutinho, who will turn 36 in September, to remain at Molineux. The Portugal international started all but four of the club’s 38 Premier League matches this season, scoring two goals, and is thought to want a two-year extension.
Moutinho’s future is one of several question marks hanging over Wolves heading into what promises to be a busy transfer window.

We'd not be able to match the net wages, foreign players pay very little tax for the first few years playing in Italy.

Seems like a good move from him Europa League team with a defensive 3 at the back formation in a slower paced league, although could be Mendes using another Mendes connection to turn up the heat.
