Leeds kick off their Premier League season against Wolves on Saturday afternoon and it truly feels as though the Whites are moving into a new era.
Indeed, heading into Jesse Marsch’s first full season as Leeds boss, the Whites have rung in the changes at Elland Road.
Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha have both left the club, while no fewer than five new signings have arrived.
Leeds are something of an unknown quantity heading into this season, and making any sort of prediction about this team is very tough.
However, we’re going to have a go at predicting the Whites’ opening day starting XI.
Leeds’ predicted XI vs Wolves
As has been the story for the past 12 months, Leeds are plagued with injuries at the moment, so this is a team that looks slightly different to what we’ll probably see on a weekly basis.
Indeed, the likes of Liam Cooper, Junior Firpo, Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling are all out of action, while Daniel James continues to serve a suspension for his red card towards the end of last season.
Therefore, it’s a different backline to the one we’re used to seeing.
Illan Meslier starts in goal, while new signing Rasmus Kristensen starts at full-back.
Naturally a centre-back, Leeds’ injury crisis may lead to Pascal Struijk playing down the left, while Diego Llorente and Robin Koch get a rare start together at centre-half.
Two more new signings start in the midfield as Tyler Adams and Marc Roca slot in after their arrivals from the Bundesliga.
Jack Harrison starts on the left despite rumours about his future, while Brendan Aaronson starts down the right side.
Joe Gelhardt gets the nod behind Patrick Bamford after a breakout 2021/22 campaign, while Bamford’s return to injury will be a welcomed one after the Whites struggled for goals last season.
