A swap deal between Wolves striker Kevin Doyle and Leicester forward Martyn Waghorn fell through on transfer deadline day.

I hope by 'fell through', they mean 'was refused point blank by Wolves, on the same principle that you wouldn't swap your Ferrari for a Ford Escort.'

Doyle I think may still go - we've said his wages are too high and intended to shift him, then he quietly came back on the scene. Initially he wasn't going to be involved whereas Sako we've always maintained we want to keep.

The thing with Doyle is that even if he does eventually leave at least you know that whilst he's at Wolves he will still give his all.

If Doyle leaves... who the $$$$ is gonna score our goals?!?!

Just kidding, love Doyle. But he needs to add goals, otherwise he should be dropped.

Exactly. Glad he's still with us this morning.

Not at all, not so long as he continues to contribute.

Wolves score goals with Kevin Doyle in the team - it really doesn't matter than it isn't him who is scoring them as long as he is contributing to the team, and he's certainly doing that.

His goals will come anyway.

And even if Doyle doesn't score that many if any as long as he is bringing others into play, creating chances for others and providing assists then let him carry on.

People may place a value on him as a forward by how many he scores but for Wolves right now his true value is what he offers the team.

I think he is a great example to players like Ismail and Sigurdarson in terms of his movement and he works well with Griffiths. On that count alone he is worth his place.

We scored no goals in the two games he wasn't involved in/barely involved in.

In the 4 he started we have scored 11 goals.

And I am pretty sure there can be no season long loans

Actually I kinda agree... I just WISH he could score goals again. He did it all the time at Reading. What has changed?

I think he plays 15 yards deeper now. More of a Rooney than a poacher, but without the scoring instinct

Why thank you NWW, I've put the post number, time and date in my diary mate.:D

All joking apart if Doyle carries on playing as he has been I couldn't care if he didn't score all season. Nice if he does obviously but he's important in other ways besides.

Great point.

While I think Sig is pushing him very hard for that starting berth (two assists and two goals now) there's no better for Sig to learn from in terms of bringing team mates into the game, holding up the ball, etc than Doyler.

After far too many cases of poor attitudes and a chronic lack of professionalism from our so-called 'super stars' over the past few seasons, Kevin Doyle's exemplary attitude is also extremely important - he should be a fine influence for the young, inexperienced lads in the squad.

His attitude (and also Sakos prior to this weekend) is whats set him apart from the other senior wasters from last season! Regarding Sako, hope that was just a blip over the weekend as hes been great bar that.

Sums the situation up perfectly. If Doyle is fit he starts, there should be no question.

No way. We already tried that with Karl Henry. No one should be a guaranteed starter.

Whatever, if he plays badly then obviously you are correct. So far this season he has been excellent. Therefore at the moment he's a guaranteed starter.

If Siggy keeps scoring and Doyler doesn't he is going to come under pressure. For a player of Doylers calibre I don't think it's acceptable no matter how good his play is for his lack of goals. He has goals in him, he has proved in the past he has. He just needs to find some way of getting into the box more.

Most teams we've played so far have visibly quaked at the sight of Doyle controlling, turning and running at them. I've never been his greatest fan but he's creating so much space for others this season it would be silly to consider leaving him out at the moment.

I think what Burton means is that he considers, as do I, Doyle to be our most important player.

I have no problem with that. Everybody should be dropable, though. At the moment, I agree, it would be silly not to play Kevin Doyle.

goals scored in the 4 games he has been involved with says a lot for me, and 0 scored when not/hardly involved.

Not overlooking the fact that it seems that a deal was put into place that involved Waghorn coming here but Doyle turned it down because he would not take a drop in wages.

Doyle and Sako are far too good for division 3. Excellent news that it's been confirmed they're both staying.

He is a 6.5 million striker playing in the third tier of English football. I think it's more than fair expect a player of Doylers quality to comfortably get around 15 goals in league 1.

We'll see what that £40K a week does for dressing room harmony if he keeps failing to notch.....

Perhaps. But as I have repeatedly said, while we are winning and scoring and while he has such a positive effect, I am more than happy he stays doing what he is doing.

Stick to your computer games.

As long as the team keeps wining & scoring goals Doyle's place in the team is justified. We have the right balance at the moment & everyone is settled into their positions. You don't just go changing that because Doyle hasn't scored.
