For me Clive, along with Geoffrey Hughes who was Onslow the Hyacinth's slob brother in law, were the best characters in Keeping Up Appearances.

A couple of months ago I was watching Excalibur which was made in about 1982. I had forgotten that Clive Swift was in it as King Arthur's Dad.

Keeping up Appearances was brilliant, proper believable comedy, I reckon everyone knows someone like Hyacinth, one of my great aunts was like her, bought up on a council estate, lived in a small bungalow but spoke like she was royalty, used to come to our house and place her hanky on the seat of the sofa before sitting down. We used to call her husband, Richard - he loved it.
