Jermaine Beckford would ‘love’ to play with Brenden Aaronson at Leeds United, after the Whites summer signing blew the Elland Road hero away with his early displays at the club.

Aaronson is one of manager Jesse Marsch’s seven signings in charge of the West Yorkshire outfit so far this summer. He moved to the Premier League side from RB Salzburg for £25m this May, as Leeds director of football Victor Orta revived his unsuccessful January pursuit.

The Whites remained interested in the 21-year-old as he ended the 2021/22 term with six goals and 10 assists. Aaronson registered his haul from 41 appearances in central midfield across all competitions. And the American has already shown his creativity at Elland Road.

Aaronson delivered a Man of the Match game on his Premier League bow as Leeds started the 2022/23 season with a 2-1 win over Wolves. Rodrigo pulled Marsch’s squad level after Daniel Podence broke the deadlock, before Ryan Ait-Nouri would find his own net late on.

Ait-Nouri inadvertently turned Patrick Bamford’s cross over the line to give United all three points. The own goal was initially credited to Aaronson, who was a livewire throughout the Elland Road clash and played an instrumental role in winning possession for Rodrigo’s goal.

Jermaine Beckford hails ‘explosive’ Brenden Aarons after Leeds United debut

Jermaine Beckford showered Brenden Aaronson with praise following the summer signing from RB Salzburg’s Premier League debut for Leeds United at home to Wolves. The Whites hero greatly admired how the 21-cap maestro turned on the skill, despite his appearance.

“He’s brilliant,” Beckford said, via quotes by the Yorkshire Evening Post. “He’s so creative. But he’s so explosive on the park, as well.

“For somebody that doesn’t look powerful, his turn of pace, his movement and his agility are really, really exciting. I’d love to play upfront with him in the team – not replacing Patrick, but alongside him!”

Aaronson may have left the pitch in the 84th-minute without scoring or assisting as Leeds beat Wolves. But the New Jersey native showed he can be a creative force in the Premier League by pulling the strings during his energetic and purposeful English top-flight debut.

Jesse Marsch will now hope Aaronson opens his accounts when Leeds visit Southampton. The West Yorkshire natives will take a trip to the south coast to face Ralph Hasenhuttl’s St Mary’s side on Saturday, keen to avoid repeating last term’s 1-0 loss under Marcelo Bielsa.
