The magic number

What will be the number of points we need to stop up? Last year it was 41, the year before it was 43. We're now on 39, so two wins would probably see us safe.

Games suddenly look winnable again. We could easily take 3 points from Bristol or Huddersfield at home, or Bolton and Blues away.

The odd draw here and there. Wim gonna be fine!

We'll need more than 4 points from the next 10 games anyway - that'd take us to 43 which is clearly too low. 46 points would see you go down IMO. 2 wins, 2 draws required.

Every team in the relegation zone is averaging a point a game at least so I think we'll need 46 points +

I'd fancy us at home against Boro too, awful on the road. Although most of our points will probably come away from fortress molineux

Hard to predict what the total needed will be when every side down there seems capable of winning some games.

Who finished in the bottom 3 last year and who survived? I can't remember, was too busy trying to ignore football after TC took charge. I'd say it'll be a bit higher prob 45 (?)because all the teams down are so close and can see that a few more wins will see them safe and are beating better teams. Plus, bristol, ipswich, have improved with new managers after bad starts.
Going on form we're still faves for the drop but who knows! Bristol at home is now massive!

I'd say 50 is the magic number. Just to be safe.

Home:

Bristol C - 3
Boro - 1
Huddersfield - 1
Hull - 0
Burnley - 1

Away:

Blues - 1
Bolton - 0
Charlton - 1
Brighton - 0

Even being conservative, that's gives us 48. Surely enough.

Sir red nose junior says the magic number is 51 - but as half the division are jammed between 36 and 45 points it could be higher if the bottom teams continue their improvement.

I did some research on this - see here.

We need at least 50 points IMO so four more wins or three wins and 2 draws.

Barnsley are currently just below the line and have 38 with 11 games left. If we give them a point a game thats 49. But with the form of the bottom teams at the moment i think we could be looking at a real high figure for safety - 52-53?

Sheff Wed, Barnsley and Posh all have a game in hand on us, this may well be the deciding factor.

Despite last nights win I can't see us staying up we've simply left it too late.

Disagree

Just had three tough games. Top two teams and millwall away

Unbeaten in two with 'easier' games to come

Feeling better today

Agree with Vietnam after looking at his stats and the current form of those around us.

50 is the magic number.

One more than the team that finishes third from bottom will do me, or even the same number of points, because our goal difference is significantly better than those below us and above us (and that, as ever, could be an important factor).

It is very true that in the Championship, every team can beat another team. I think also, it is particularly true in this league, that mid-table teams, going nowhere, drop off, significantly in form-and especially those who, despite a decent run for the play offs, have tailed off. I also anticipate that at least one of the teams in the bottom 5 or so will have a shocking run towards the end of the season, so actually I don't expect the survival points total to be quite as high as others have indicated on here, but, it is all quesswork, to a degree. Two more wins very quickly, with other results going our way, and things will look much better. There are some teams in a group above us who must be starting to worry about teams at the bottom improving.

We're 3 points off of the bottom of the table, but 6 points from climbing up to 12th place. This league is utterly insane.

i'd say at least 50 but to be really safe 51/52. Little run and you'd end up mid table!!

Am with Vietnam Wolf on this - I think we'll need 50 or so to stay up. Everyone around us is winning.

I think 3 wins and a smattering of draws. We've seen the teams around us can be quite handy. There are no real hackers there.

We have some handy games coming up against teams around us - Birmingham, Huddersfield, Bristol City to name but three. If we win those we'll be fine, I'd take a draw against Forest.

Around here.... I can see some of the teams above us being sucked in and they only need a couple of wins and a couple of draws to hit 50...may go even higher

If we win all of our remaining games can we still get into the playoffs?
