Well i've learnt something today.

Centre-Halves don't mark strikers (ie KP) when crosses come in.

The ball should have been put in Row Z.

Sometimes centre forwards make it easy to mark and some do not. Centre half's tend to drop in ready to clear the cross. stop it from reaching the forward.

Watch the amount of times the pull back undoes the defence.
Our midfielders should have been marking.

Someone should've marked him, and Ward should've stopped the cross in the first place. I don't want to over generalise, but its that simple.

Ward should have gone to him but his supposed central defensive marshalls let him down. Berra was just backing off like ward but with no-one near him, when he should have communicated to him to commit as he had him covered. Then craddock gave phillips a yard time and space. It was absolutely appalling play from the defensive unit and as glaring an example as you'll ever see of lack of defensive cohesion, down in no small part to our inability to acquire a true defensive organiser, something I and others prophesied would ultimately cost us at the start of the season.

That first goal was a carbon copy of Blues equaliser V Spurs, Ward should have known what was behind him and pulld out wide whist telling Henry / Belgian 1 to come in and cover where he was.

Inexperience is costing us
Which is why alot of us can't understand fox going to burnley and shorey going fulham without us even looking at them. Not the best left backs in the world but better than our current one.

I agree. As much as Jody Craddock is the all action hero, surely we should have been looking at far better. He's fine heading balls back and forwards, but slow and easily turned on the floor. He is the weakest link in the chain for me. He used to alright in the CCC now he's $$$$$ in the Prem and a few goals from set pieces don't gloss over his deficiences.

Hind sight is wonderful.

I spent all summer screaming for Shorey, and Sidwell.

They were deemed not good enough by the majority of posters on here, yet now we should have bought them

Carr should have been put in Row Z, like Glasgow said, by Ward, about 30 yards from where he put the cross in.

Agree with that totally, thats why i couldn't understand us going for hunt and johnson and spending all month messing about on two players who we weren't going to get.

I can understand Hunt, could not understand $$$$ing around with £5 mill.
I would have said to them 6.5M take it or leave it on day 1 of the window. and then moved on.

I'd be very surprised if there were many posts saying Sidwell wasn't good enough. I imagine the majority of our fans would have welcomed him.

If my memory serves me there were plenty of posters hoping that we could sign Sidwell but plenty more doubting we could get him. Take the point about Shorey, though.

So now it appears that Ward played with a knee injury after not training all week...no wonder he struggled. So it's Elokobi next game then unless Mancienne moves to LB. stearman we know isn't an option and Hill is now at QPR....oh dear.

Elokobi isn't nearly as bad as some on here make him out to be. Yes, his distibution can be woeful, but the rest of his game is decent. In the context of this thread, he would have knocked Carr into Row ZZZ

Surman would be the best option at left back for now.

He has played there for Southampton, has a footballing brain and would be an attacking outlet.

Maybe not the quickest.

If Jarvis don't get his crossing together I would turn him into a left back, his blistering pace worked wonders when tracking back against Liverpool.

Surman, forgotten abut him at LB. Not sure he is strong enough to deal with a aerial bombardment or a player like Jones or Crouch tho? Might not hoof it as much..

Get Surman a sprinting coach and he will be like Dani Alves in a couple of years time
