Slow night on MM and I'm trying not to post Hoddle Out every day - so I had a look back at some of the comments pre-season 2006.

The most ridiculous I can find was Siunt, July 2005. I can quite honestly state that his guy was off the mark with his predictions for our most influential players:

Olofinjana - A year to get used to the club and the league, and now we will see the best of him, he is the reason that we don't need an Ince replacement IMO, he has what it takes to fill this role. And his physical presence will be seen this season!

Seol - As with Olofinjana, he has had a year now, and is used to the club and the football, I think he can move on now and produce the superb performances that we saw in some games last season, more regularly.

Cort - He is our number 1 striker now, Hoddle has devised a system that allows Cort to play to his full potential. The confidence that Cort will have gained from his full regime of pre-season training, and his good pre-season form, means he should be able to get off to a good start. I think he will be our top scorer this year!

Yep, playing to his full potential on the wing.

When we were playing something resembling football in the first couple of months of the season, Cort knocked in 11 goals in 14 games, IIRC. By the time he came back, things had gone badly awry and he suddenly became the answer to our problems on the right-hand side of midfield.

I think you'll find that he became the source of our problems on the right-hand side of midfield

....and who was the bright spark who put him there?

Cort was excellent in the game at Crewe. Everything him and Kenny touched turned to gold. Unfortunately he was soon injured after that game.

to be fair you can maybe see where he was coming from with olofinjana as well. i remember the game at reading at the end of the season when he played in the ince role and completely controlled the game. who else would have predicted that seol would be a shadow of the player he was for much of last season. as has already been pointed out, cort didn't exactly have a bad season either

Olifinjana was becoming more influential particularly at Reading last season, but with injury he hasn't been the same player. Seol's form this year has been poor but he hasn't been played in the same position as last year (behind the forwards). Cort started off on fire but again injury ruined his season.

Well, at least had the guts to put his neck on the line and make predictions. I'm sure we could all be made to equally silly if someone wanted trawl through every single statement we've made. I thought this was the year too, and that those 3 would play an intregal part in getting us up, even put money on it. If it was that easy to make predictions, there'd be no bookies, and life would be pretty boring.

I think you'll find the post was intentionally ironic? :o

I predicted we would storm the league this season and I went to Reading's opener against Plymouth and they were awful and duly predicted a long season at the bottom for them
