In a break with tradition, at a special press conference called today at Molineux, chief executive Jez Moxey announced Wolves strategy for the next 3-years.
Moxey said 'We admit that things haven't gone as well as we would have liked since our ill-fated promotion, but we have been working hard behind the scenes, and have developed a comprehensive business plan that we believe will establish Wolverhampton Wanderers in the top 20 clubs in this country within 5 years"
Moxey then handed over to chairman Rick Hayward - who outlined the strategy.
'The first problem we need to address is the retirement of my father Sir Jack. We acknowledge at present that it is not clear what Jack's role in the running of the club is' said Hayward 'We have asked Sir Jack to take up the position of honory life president - and he has accepted. This means that he will not be spending another penny of his fortune on the club, and nor will he interfere with it's running'
'Clearly, the next most important factor is to achieve promotion within the next 3-years. We hope to achieve this using a combination of home grown academy players, and experienced professionals, under the management of Glenn Hoddle. This does not mean that Mr Hoddle is beyond reproach - but simply that we believe in him, and at this point we would expect him to stay for 3 years. He has agreed to continue with his present contract arrangement'
'We would also like acknowledge that as a club, we have had a somewhat strained relationship with our support over the past two years, and that it not entirely the supporters fault. We would ask that they bear with us during this period of rebuilding, and as a gesture of good faith the season ticket price policies over the period of the strategy will be.....'
'We also accept that our commercial strategy is identical to all other clubs. This will change - no longer will we look to extract maximum short term gain from our customers with ridiculous marketing schemes - we will look to improve and strengthen the commerial aspect of our relationship with our fans. Further details will be released in due course. We also commit to avoid copying the goal music of the moment - we know enough about football to know wolves fans don't want to listen to Sheffield Uniteds goal music every week.'
'By far the most important aspect of this plan is the playing side. The policy will be to capitalise on our academy,a nd our new training facilities - we hope to be able to build the nucleas of the team with home grown players such as Davies, Jones and Little. these players will be an integral part of the team over the next 3 years - and in order to help them mature we have acquired the services of ***** ****** on a three year contract.
'We intend to supplement these players with a range of experienced proffessionals on a range of terms, and will also persue a policy of acquiring several promising youngsters fromt he lower leagues each season - with the aim of retain 20% of these in the first team squad - Please give your support to all these players'
Moxey went on to outline plans for stadium improvements - eventually in capacity - but in the short term simply essential maintenance and removal of the now antiquated big screens that are completely invisible and exhibits signs of decay.
He also announced that for select matches season ticket holders could bring a guest for free, and a program of kids for a quid events.
Thats all it would take. Sir Jack, please pay £300k into my account.
