Anyone available to play upfront in the summer?
Seriously, with Owen n Rooney out...Who would your replacements be??
Off the top of my head...i cannot think of anyone!
When you look at it, marlon Harewood is liek the second leading English goalscorer....great!

We have the horrible prospect of Crouch starting the first game, its too horrifying to contemplate.

not the best of forward lines but bent and crouch ??

Harewood & Ashton work well together at West Ham.
A good emergency strike force IMO.
At least they won't need time to gel.
Ashton would be awesome with decent supply from the wingers aswell.
its a huge opportunity for defoe as i cant see eriksson not taking him in the squad
if they are both out then personally id take the following 5
Crouch
Defoe
Bent
Ashton
Fowler
of that 5 i think ashton and bent would work the best as a partnership as both great finishers as is fowler
to a degree if rooney can get himself fit for the 2nd round weekend then he is worth the risk as we should be able to get out of the group( maybe past 2nd round) without him and then bring him back in the fold in later stages
it could be worse... we could have a much tougher group than what we actually have

i'd push j.cole or wirght-phillips further forward, bent and ashton leading the line against brazil/argentina/italy etc doesn't bear thinking about

cole just behind the front man and possibly downing on the left???
tbh i just hope ashley cole gets fit or we really are screwed
at least with a front man we have some optioons whereas the only real cover we have for ash cole would be bridge who is more injury prone than anyone

I fear you're kidding yourself sadly. Beckham had 8 weeks to recover before the last World Cup and he clearly wasn't fit during the tournament even then. I just don't believe the 6 weeks out line being touted. I think this has just been said to let everyone down gently. :(

probably right tbh
just more disappointed now as the 2/3 grand im spending on going to germany may not be what i hoped for now
will still back whoever plays 110% though
now is the time for sven to finally earn his wages

if owen is out as well then how about this:
robinson
g.neville terry ferdinand a.cole
carrick
beckham lampard gerrard
j.cole
crouch

certainly looks a good enough side to get us past the group stages and tbh our 2nd round game as long as we win the group
if cole is gonna play behind a big man then we certainly need a winger to create down the left although i guess u could have cole pushing on
whilst not ideal the rooney situation could well develop into a good one for certain players
personally think joe cole will be our star player anyway, with or without rooney, he has learned how to graft as well as bringing thru his natural ability
he must be gutted that all the england stuff has taken the shine off his peformance today, his goal was sheer brilliance

I quite like Chris Waddles idea of
Wright phillips - beckham- Lampard - Cole
------------Gerrard----------------------
---------------------Owen---------------
I may have left beckham wide and put in Carrick though. so we would look like this :-
------------------Carrick----------------------
Beckham-----------------------------------Cole
------------------Lampard---------------------
--------------Gerrard--------------------------
--------------------------Owen----------------
I honestly think Gerrard played higher is the answer as the remaining options simply are not good enough.
I think he will be back for the quarters and given he is so young and so good, I think he will make an instant impact when he does. Beckhams problem was that he was older and he needs the physical fitness aspect of his game.
I also think Beckham just had a poor tournament and the fitness was just a bit of a convenient excuse.

i agree with pretty much everything said there, just hope your right davebull, one of gerrard, cole or lampard needs to be pushed forward as for me the only strikers who could have a real impact are rooney, owen or crouch

I'd play Joe Cole in Rooney's role with Ashley Cole left midfield and Bridge at left-back. Then hopefully Rooney will be back for the knockout stages.
