Does not look good...bloody typical, maybe loosing a key player right before the World Cup.

he's left on crutches and looks in pain, how long till 1st game? 6 or 7 weeks? we wont win it without him, cort might get a chance the way our strikers are falling

fingers crossed its not as bad as looked, initially looked like a break for the amount of pain

seems it cant be as bad as first feared as he didnt get took straight to hospital

on a positive note, we should be able to get results against paraguay and trinidad without him thus giving him an extra 10 days or so to recover

Shifnal Wolf
29-04-2006, 15:42
good point powelly. do we really need rooney to help us beat paraguay and trinidad? im certain we'll need him for sweden so that gives him 7 weeks to get himself fit. that should hopefully be enough time but the only uncertainty would be his lack of games in that time

29-04-2006, 15:47
when he broke it before didn't he miss the start of the following season? he must have been out for a while

one teh face of it, ashely cole wont be fit, owen may be fit, rooney, who knows...Three palyers who woudl walk into any international team. our World cup hopes could rest on those players. lets face it, the replacements dont compete!

why wont ashley cole be fit? hes back in training and has played 2 reserve games. i expect him to be at the world cup and wearing the number 3 unless he's hit by another injury

Not sure it's a matter of 'deserving it' or not. If fit, which he looks like being, he is the best left back in England, probably the world. End of.

Bloody hell. Bothered if he deserves to be there! We need our best players no matter what.

Hope Cole is fit, I mean who's the alternative??

Konchesky looks very susceptible at the back on the international front and does get caught out a fair bit in the Prem.

Not too sure on Bridge, can't judge him on his rustyness in the Argentina game but I'd play a 70% fit Cole over a 100% Bridge any day.

I hope Neville's knock isnt anything too serious as well. I thought him and Cole were superb in the Euros especially against Portugal.

Yes, but for which country...you almost felt Mourinho was trying to finish England's World Cup chances singlehandedly today....Rooney got crocked and carried off, Joe Cole finished with an ice pack on his knee, Terry was limping and left to play for another 70 minutes....then Jose comes onto the pitch wearing a Portugal scarf not a Chelsea one.....questions should be asked.... conspiracy theory number 9155...Mourinho stops England for World Cup....

Just shows how crap England are if we're relying on a 19 year old to win us the World Cup! I can't see us getting to the Quarter Finals now with our limited players/ tactics, let alone win the damn thing!

Thats bllox if you dont mind me saying so.

Any team in the worldwould miss Rooney.

He is one of those rare players that the whole team plays through, ala Ronaldino.

Have to say I'm very doubtful that he'll be back and fit in time for the World Cup, whatever anyone says.

Brazil would still be favourites to win the World Cup without Ronaldinho. Therein lies the reason we won't win it: we have to face 'em at some point. Apart from Rooney, only Gerrard and Terry I'd consider are "World Class".

it looks like he's going to be alright...just. however, remember when his first game back after he broke his foot 2 years ago? i may be wrong but i believe it was his united debut when he scored a hat-rick in the champions league. at least on that evidence he won't take a number of games to get up to speed

Darko Pancev
29-04-2006, 22:23
The problem is that after he broke his foot in Portugal, it was a full 12 weeks before he even started kicking a ball again in training. Six weeks seems very optimistic. Not looking good....

johnybig32
29-04-2006, 22:25
He wont make it in my opinion. the break is on the fourth metartarsil...he broke the fifth before, which is surely not as bad and was out 4 8 weeks before he kicked a ball...

doesnt look good, and a back up plan needs to be though through, especially if owen isnt fit.

From what i san cee the only option is give Crouch role upfront by himself, with Cole lampard and Gerrard supporting. We are overloaded with talented attacking midfielders. why not play to our strentghs??

bye bye world cup?

ive been really getting world cup fever for the last 2 weeks and really looking forward to it.

when i saw him go down like he did all that vanished.

honestly, without him i dont think we have a chance in hell of getting past the group stages let alone winning the thing.

under sven we do not have a plan 'b'.

johnybig32
29-04-2006, 22:32
Totally agree...

Plan B was Northen Ireland....and look how that went.

If he did revert to 451, i would like to see the back of beckham, and play cole, gerrard, lampard, carrick and lennon. bit of pace and flair in there...

Jim Bowen
29-04-2006, 23:02
I'd definitely take Lennon instead of Defoe - his pace would terrify any team late on in games.

johnybig32
29-04-2006, 23:04
So you wouldnt take one of the best English Strikers we have left?

MK Panther
29-04-2006, 23:49
This is pure nonense he is not going to make it will take him a minimum twelve weeks with any broken bone. Its pointless taking unfit players look at Owen and
Beckham the last time. I hope I am wrong but in my heart of hearts we have lost the cutting edge to the team.

gloom and doom

oh no we arent noing to win the world cup because the boy isnt going to be there :s

i have been thinking for a while that this is our best chance in a good while to win the cup, but...i dont think 1 bloke can make a team..and so surely that means that i think the rest of the team are more than capable of making a good show of themselves? Rooney is going to be at the World Cup, hes going to be our gem in the knock out stages...til then however we will have to rely on the more than capable Gerrard, Lampard, Terry and Beckham to get us through the group stages...and we will get through the group stages with or without Rooney - no doubt in my mind about that!

C'mon me babbies! :D

Jim Bowen

Rooney will still be in the squad - even if he can't play until the knockout stages, Owen will be fit, Crouch is a certainty and I'd take Bent instead of Defoe, that will leave another place - so yes I'd take him instead of Defoe.

ooh la la
30-04-2006, 13:25
I have to wonder with Man U down three goals WHY Fergison left him on anyway. Yes you want to be competative but there was no way United were going to get anywhere near Chelski at that point.

Bull Army
30-04-2006, 14:45
I think the only role Rooney's going to play is a sub role. Rest him for the group games, and then stick him on for the last 20 minutes of the 2nd round game, playing for longer the further we get.
