There seems to be a commonly held belief that if we don't go up we'll sack Hoddle, do we have any evidence for this? Have this board ever sacked a manager pro actively?! He's still got a year's contract whenever we sack him so I don't think it'll save us that much money. If they were going to get rid it would have been after Leicester, I can only see him staying.

Do you think we'll change manager if we don't go up, and why?

If we don't go up the evidence is clear to see with the turgid $$$$ this season has produced under this idiot.
The squad is good enough for promotion. His planning and formation are a puzzle it seems he can't solve. We've gone backwards.

If we go up it'll be a miracle if not get him out.

Is it worth remembering that during the fans forum that Moxey said Hoddle would remein at the helm irrespective of what division we start in next season?

I thinkso many of the fans are anti-Hoddle now that I can't see his staying here working. The whole place will be more negative than ever!

Also with all the talk of cutting our cloth accordingly and all the cost cutting going on how can we justify spending all that money on Hoddle's contract?

If Hoddle cant get us up with all the money thats been thrown at him, how will he cope with the huge cutbacks we need to make this summer?

Five of our last six managers were sacked between October and December after poor starts to the season (the only exception being Graham Taylor who was sacked in March). I really can't seeing Hoddle being any different.

It annoys me, because sacking a manager half-way through the season is a waste of a season. I think the board should decide each May who they want to be the manager for the next season and stick with him through thick and thin, until the following May.

But I am convinced that Hoddle will be sacked in the middle of November with us lying about 17th in the table.

Depressing thoughts whichever way you look at it!

I also think Rick Hayward should do the honourable thing and resign from being Chairman. I realise most Chairmen of football clubs are clueless, but Rick is an extreme example of the genre.

I thought someone had once posted a link to a website ( the lma perhaps) that held an article on Glenns appointment thay suggested we may have a clause that we can cancel his contract at the end of the season if we haven't performed acceptably. This was in return for a clause allowing Glenn to be released if a prem club came in for him.
I think that was the gist of the article but I apologise if I remember incorrectly

If Wolves fail to go up then sack him as he will have been a total failure. This decision can be made the second the club have no chance of success. As soon as a PO place has gone then bye bye Glenn and make sure the new manager is in place before the pre season starts. Reach the PO's and fail then sack him but either way anything but promotion should see him gone IMHO.

If we don't go up, then Hoddle is not in a very good bargaining position is he?
Who else would want him FFS?.
I think he may be cheap and therefore the obvious option for our board.

I think Hoddle would rather move to a different club for £100k and say he wanted a new challenge, than accept a pay cut at his current employers. Egotistical scoper.

He's still probaly still expecting a call from the FA. (Misheard when someone told him to expect FA!)

It was Turner who was sacked in March, Fenella.

For some months, I agreed with you that next autumn was the most likely time that Hoddle would go. But some of the performance since Christmas have been so dire, I think failure to go up will galvanize Jez sooner.

I used to think that he'd go at the end of the season if we didn't go up, but now I'm not so sure. I think we'll keep him and MAYBE JUST MAYBE he'll surprise a few people next season. It could be prudent to give him an opportunity to gel his team together.

Deutsch Wolf
28-03-2006, 14:23
He's had 15 months to gel his team together. We play a formation that doesn't work in this division, or with these highly talented forwards, and he won't change it. What are the chances of him either changing formation or achieving results with inferior players? Next to nil.

I spy the words 'mutual consent' appearing soon in a newspaper near you.

Guys I am not so sure.
Hoddle will not walk, he cannot, he will be perceived as a failure if he fails to get Wolves promoted. he will have no where to go.
Moxey and the board have always said they acted to hastily in getting rid of other managers.
I think he will get next season, if we are not in the top 6 in the new year of 2007, he may be asked to leave. If we fail to reach the play off's next season he may be asked to leave.
No matter what happens now he will be here next season IMHO

If he is here at the beginning of next season we can effectively write that season off too. He will buy cak, and eventually be sacked in November ish, leaving the new manager to work with dross, and put us back a couple of years. Sack him as soon as its impossible to go up this season, and let the new manager stamp his mark on the side and give him the summer to assess what he has to work with.

I've asked the question before why does everyone think he'll certainly be gone in the summer? Don't get me wrong i'd love to see the back of the arrogant southern $$$$$$, but it wouldn't suprise me at all if he was still here at the beginning of next season.

At the risk of looking stupid...........actually no I can say this with confidence........We are not going up, but if we make the play offs (which I think is unlikely) I dont think they will sack him. If we narrowly miss out on the playoffs I still don't think he'll go. The only way I'm confident he'll get the sack is if we go into the Norwich game with nothing to play for.

Agree with Glasgow on this. I think he'll still be here next season and the season after. I have a feeling that the club are going to take a longer term approach to our manager situation.

I have no evidence to support this, it's just a gut feel. Who knows, he might surprise us all with the big clearout and some new talent on-board, but I won't hold my breath...

Agreed

I'd also like to see the 'fat' back of Carl 'FAT $$$$$$$' Hoddle

The biggest indication that he might stay regardless of our end result is the fact he'll have only had 18 months in the job by the end of the season. Traditionally, a manager has at least 2-3 years, provided he isn't a complete catastrophy (i.e- relegation battle).

On the other hand, Moxey may have to act if the fans vote with their feet for the frankly coma-inducing matches we've had to endure this (and sometimes last) season- especially at Molineux, which we were proud to say was once a fortress not too far back in living memory.

Forget gelling and whatnot, 15 months is enough time. Either he needs to clearout the majority of that XI and replace them with 'his guys' to get the results (which looks frankly impossible due to our costcutting activities), he modifies his tactics to get the most out of what he's got like all good managers do (again unlikely, due to his obvious arrogance), or he walks.

I am clearly in a mimority here, but I hope that GH stays - at least for one more season. Strangely I have faith in the man.
It wasn't so long ago that the majority on this board were singing his praises for improving the likes of Naylor, Cort. Kennedy.
As for his aquisitions, again the majority were in raptures at one time or another with those brought in e.g. Gyepes, Rosa, Frankie, Aliadiere, Ross. Fickle lot ain't we?

Don't be so parochial.

Arrogant Hoddle may be but in recent (?) years the club has tried a Midland's '$$$$$$' in Taylor, a Scottish '$$$$$$' in McGhee, another Southern '$$$$$$' in Lee, a Northern '$$$$$$' in Jones (a 'Scouser' to boot- and probably with Welsh connections too.

Mind you, I would support the appointment of Stuart Baxter as manager (I believe he was born in Wolverhampton) for a number of reasons.

Hoddle's not a cockney, he was born in Hayes Middlesex. Nor for that matter is self styled 'cockney' Gary Bushell who was born in Woolwich and not within the sound of Bow Bells.

spot on. He won't want to be here with the situation we're be in that's why he'll walk. He won't get pushed but i'm positive he won't be here when pre season starts.

I think he'll still be here at the start of next season, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had has an early exit next seaon if we don't get off to a good start. There are going to be players leaving and not that much money to buy replacements with before the start of the season, so a lot will depend on what fnas and the board believe is a realistic goal for next season, if we fail to live up to that I don't think Hoddle will last long as I think the fans board and players will lose all confidence in him ala Dave Jones
