I see PNE have got Ipswich at home and Plymouth away for their next 2 games. Not the easiest fixtures when youve lost 2 in a row.smileys/smiley1.gif

Sounded good in parts but shaky in defence again. QPRs win at Sheff Utd hasn't instilled much confidence in us getting 4 in a row though! There again I'm a pessimist when it comes to Wolves

A win at QPR and I'd actually be looking forward to a home game for the first time in about 2 years!

I'll settle for 4 points from the two though. smileys/smiley4.gif

According to another web site, there were 67shots at goal - 43 for Hull and 24 for Wolves. That statistic, if correct, must have kept the goalkeepers on their toes for the full 96minutes (extra 2 minutes in the first half and 4 minutes in the second half).

keep it going glenn and the team, at least put some excitement into the season by carrying it on.

was aladiere the missing icing off the cake???

Aladiere was on fire - worked great on the wing and him and Miller pulled the defence apart. Both great at running and linked up well for our second. All in all I think the team played with a lot of heart, though there was always going to be worries at the back. Lescott's penalty challenge was awful, he should never had let the guy get into the box in the first place. Tryed to shield the ball out and slashed the man as he came past. Penalty then missed into Wolves crowd.smileys/smiley36.gifHe got some stick. Postma had little to do in the first half and in the second was at opposite end to the Wolves support so can't say much, just that he made a wonder save in the dying moments to keep it at 3-2. Glad Cort got a goal, looked genuinely delighted, and Incey was superb as per usual. But I think someone who needs special praise is Davies. For 18 he is brilliant, wasn't afraid to run at people and did extremely well at winning balls. For someone so small he has great presence in the air. Finally, I'd just like to say.

COME ON YOU WOLVES!

Hull City fans are singing the praises of Kenny Miller after todays game.

28th March 1965
25-02-2006, 21:24
A first half that we got away lucky to be level , Hull did pressure us terribly and should have scored at least 3 , Lescott had another of his brainstorms trying to usher a ball out for a goal kick and got done and gave away a blatant penalty...

Alibaba took his goal brilliantly and Miller headed over just after when he really should have scored.

Second half started off slowly but Wolves shaded it thanks to the workrate and running of Kenny Miller who was $$$$$$$ing superb today , the turning point for me and I hate to say it without having users call me a c*!$! was Kennedy coming on for Anderton he quickened up the play in midfield and used the ball well into the strikers..

Edwards own goal was one of the best own goals I have ever seen just watch the TV , but for me Wolves were the better side in the second half and broke with such pace that it was like watching a different Wolves side to the previous few months , but the man today was Kenny Miller he was superb and never stopped running and was the key to Wolves winning the game along with Kennedy coming on.

A few more of those levels of performances I will be eating my words...

What a good day out for a change! Nice stadium andreasonable journey, shame about the official car park, took a while to get away but at least it was following a win and not a defeat!

First half we were second best, scoring on the break. Davies put Aliadiere through and he finished superbly. They missed a penalty after Lescott had been out-muscled trying to shepherd the ball out of play and then tripping the big fat lump over (Parkin). He went down very easily though for someone who'd look at home in the front row of a scrum.

Second half was better, end to end stuff with Miller superb, constantly running with the ball and it helped having Aliadiere's pace as he could actually keep up with Miller and provide some support coming infrom the right flank. Also to be fair to Kennedy when he came on he controlled the game far better than Anderton could manage. Edwards was unlucky trying to clear a cross and totally miscued the ball. How it went in from that angle i'm not quite sure. Finally, Ricketts put a great ball in from the left and Cort was unmarked six yards out and sidefooted home a volley to seal the three points, though Postma pulled off a flying save late on.

Postma - 7

Ross - 7

Edwards - 6

Lescott - 6

Naylor - 4

Ince - 6

Anderton - 5

Davies - 7

Aliadiere - 8

Cort - 6

Miller - 9 MOTM

Kennedy - 7

Ricketts - 7

Frankowski - on for 30 seconds.

Ref - s!$*.

Barnstormer of a game and really enjoyed my trip home for the first time in ages. Still can't believe Wolves were involved in a 5 goal thriller and three, yes I'll say it again....three....of our strikers actually scored. We could have had more but so could have Hull, very open and attacking game. Hope we approach our next few games with the same attitude.

Postma - 7 - Great save in injury time to keep it at 3-2

Ross - 7 - Worked very hard, gives everything.

Edwards -5 - amazing own goal. played ok but we look more solid with Craddock or Gyepes

Lescott - 5. Looked a little shakey at times, definite penalty

Naylor - 5 - Didn't inspire confidence when defending

Ince - 7 - Tireless performance, especially good considering he's been out a few games

Anderton - 5 - Did ok but we improved when Kennedy came on

Davies - 7 - Busy and matureperfomance

Aliadiere - 8 - fast and classy

Cort - 6 - Did ok and finished his goal well

Miller - 9 Superb tireless performance, MoTM by a mile

Subs

Kennedy - 7 - made a real positive difference when he came on

Ricketts -6 - did well when he came on and and produced some good cutting passes

Frankowski - just had enough time to run on to the field

Cannot agree with 28th.....Hoddle got out of jail with his substitutions.....we were dominating the game until Kennedy came on, he was dreadful, until he arrived all the players were looking for the quick ball forward for the break...Kennedy stopped it dead...as usual, he would pass to a player then stop, instead of running forward into space, often leaving the player no option but to pass it backwards again.

The other sub that nearly cost us was Aliadiere...he was superb today and was always availble and in space...mark of a good player....with Miller (another who was magnificent) as another option, when Ricketts replaced Aliadiere there was almost no release point and we started to lose the ball and then they started to come at us and dominate...luckily the winner came and saved our (and Hoddle's) bacon. Be interested to hear what others who went thought...we were cruising until the substitutions.

Postma...usual game, dodgy on crosses and kicking, good at blocking shots....6

Ross....Jeckyll and Hyde....he can play extremely well, but he has a temper and needs to watch it...but decent performance....7

Lescott.....wooo Joleon...had a 'mare of a first half and was responsible for losing the ball and then committing the foul for the pen...their guy made the most of a shove, but a pen.....not his best game...6

Edwards....played well, little complaint, to be honest from where I was I thought it was Ross that scored the own goal....whoever...you will not believe it until you see it, quite incredible...if a forward had scored this we would be calling him the new Van Basten.....7

Naylor.....too often caught out of position....said it before...he is not a full back...let him play wide midfield where he is dangerous.....6

Anderton....ran his little socks off again this week, good passing and chased back time and again to cover the defence...well done Darren, looked shagged out, but no more than he did last week when he lasted 90 minutes....knackered he was still 10 times better than Kennedy......8

Ince...bossed bullied, made some great runs and linked well between defence and attack...good performance....8

Davies....fabulous...ran at them, passed intelligently and got into a couple of challenges that shows he is getting stronger every week....wait till you see the pass for the first goal.....top quality....9

Miller....brilliant, ran and ran, chased everything, ran at defenders, always available, deserved his standing ovation and took jis goal brilliantly....MOTM....9

Aliadiere...close to Miller for MOTM, was always available...scared the pants off Hull...took his goal like an Arsenal player...pure class.....when he went off we lost our outlet and width...he has to start every game.....9

Cort.....played wide right for most of the match....did almost nothing until he scored (was Frankowski about to come on for HIM before he scored?)....took his goal well and then sprang into life...he was holding the ball up, making defensive headers and clearances....CARL...do that all through the game and they will be singing your name in the streets mate.....for his last 5 minutes.....7

Subs....

Kennedy....as said above....proof if any were needed why we cannot break quickly when he is on the pitch....keep him out of the team....was always a fan of Kennedy's and thought he had played decently enough at the start of the season...but the issue is we have won 4 out of 5 when he did not start.....coincidence?...NO......4

Ricketts....did not do much...until he knocked a couple of crosses in and then......6

Frankowski....time wasting sub, did not have time to do anything...so no mark appropriate

Hull attacked us and that is the only time Hoddle's tactics work (said this last season and before this season started)...shown again today...plus Hull were poor....BUT....what a great match to watch...someone came on BBC Humber...a Sc*!$!horpe fan and said it was a great game for the neutral to watch...agreed...if I

Well just got home not read any threads i'll post this first.

Postma... 7 Good saves, held on to a few shots whenthey could have been spilled. Does not instill me qwith confidence when coming off his line. Slow one time eventually came and punched.

Naylor..... 6 Needed some studs in his boot sespecially start of the second half could so easily have caused some goals. Distribution was better, was a bit more disciplined in not bombing forward regardless. looked better when he had Miller back helping out.

Lescott...... 4 Oh dear. Out muscled out paced, out thought. Tried his hardest to gift Hull a goal in the first half. 1 superb tackle in the box first half. The 4 points were for his second half performance it was 100 % better. It was not hard to do better. lescott for England was the shout once, do me a favour on that performance he would struggle to get in the faroe Islands.

Edwards..... 6 Made just one mistake, what the $$$$$$$ was he doing for the own goal. Distribution was very good. Won headers won tackles did well. Lost points for the OG.

Ross...... 7 did well Distribution was very good. looked comfortable. Was very unlucky to get booked it was a foul on him however need to calm down when the decision goes against him.

Ince....... 8 Played very well. Covered defence got tackles in and was good going forward did not give the ball away. Gave Lescott a few $$$$$$$ings especially in the first half.

Davies ..... 9 MOTM. Our best player. Won tackles skillfull on the ball. Worked so so hard. hull just could not get the ball off him. good tackle and early ball set Aliadiere up forthe first goal.

Anderton.... 3 Lescott must be glad he played.... He stopped Joleon from being our worst player. Slow, unable to tackle turning circle of a Oil tanker. Not sure what he did. time to retire Sicknote.

Miller..... 8 ran and ran. Was lucky with the goal tried to set Aliadiere up but mis control straight into his path and thanks very much. finished very well. I wish other players would work like he did today.

Cort..... 6 Thanks god for the goal. He was awful otherwise. He is supposed to hold the ball up. At times we were under pressure the ball was played up to him and he would mis control it and it would come straight back. Today he had an awful first touch, not much movement. finished the goal very well.

Aliadiere...... 8 Was awesome, lack of match practice saw him pleading to come off after 65 mins. his legs had gone. Quick very skillfull very direct. what a gem, oh to get him permanently with Davies.

Subs

Rickets.... 7Did very well. Distribution excellent lovely cross for the goal was a danger as soon as he came on.

Kennedy.... 6 Better than Anderton. Wish he would shoot tho.

Frankowski not on long enough.

Hoddle.... oh well now cant complain we won. The formation looks very strange not sure I like it.

Overall
good team performances littered with individual errors from certain players. battled back showed great courage great resilliance. you cn see the confidence coming back hopefully it will continue.

Don't agree. I thought Kennedy played pretty well and played some nice (albeit simple) balls to Ricketts and Kenny.

I thought the game changed when Aliadiere went off. He holds the ball
up really really well, is incredibly quick and has a class first touch.
When he went off there was nobody to hold the ball it just came
straight back at us.

Of all the years I have watched football I have never seen an Own Goal
like Rob Edwards' today. I though the Alan Smith one at Molineux was
bad, but Edwards easily topped Smiths.

This is most puzzling, the drink up in Hull must be powerful to account
for the variance in the player ratings, SOA had Anderton at 8, Glasgow
scored him 3! Similar differing opinions for Kennedy.

Us Expats had to listen to the second half on the Hull commentary, since the Wolves WOW gave us the Villa gamesmileys/smiley7.gif.
In fact this was somewhat of a blessing in disguise since the quality
of the commentary from the Hull guys was no comparison to the Wolves
first half - it was far superior.

The play by play guy cocked up the penalty call, "Postma dived the
right way almost saved it......oh he missed it...still 1-0" Deadpan was
a severe understatement.

From a sound only perspective Miller and Ince were our best players,
the Hull commos were hugely complimentary, if fact they were fair to a
fault.smileys/smiley1.gif

Nice game to listen to, nerve racking at the end with Postma bringing off a save to preserve the win.

Good 3 points, onwards and upwardssmileys/smiley32.gif

I agree to a certain extent twith what SOA said. Anderton did indeed chase backand ran around a lot. For me he was far to slow, cumbersome. When he got back he did nothing. When he got the ball he did nothing with it

Hoddle got his substitutions right imo....

I thought Anderton was poor and couldn't seem to do a thing right...Kennedy's passing was much better and quicker and not always side-ways either....he started the move for the winner feeding Ricketts with a forward pass.

It was fairly obvious to me that Aliadiere was knackered and the only reason he was subbed, Ricketts came on and was still an outlet including setting the winner up on a plate for Cort...Edited by: hampshire wolf

A bit late but I've had to look after the kids after going to Hull yesterday.

A deserved win for the Wolves who had the extra class when required.

I do not like 4-3-3 but it worked today probably because Hull only had three in midfield. Also the three up front realised they had to support each other and not get too far apart.

The system relies on the two wide forwards getting back to help the full backs a la Giggs and I don't think Miller and Ali can do this against better players than Hull.

However, the narrow three in midfield protect the centre of the defence which we need with Lescott in this form. Will he be dropped when Gypes and Craddock are fit again? Jon Parkin dominated on set pieces and on balls pumped up from the back.

Postma 7 Most of Hull's many goal attempts were long range effortswhich posed no real problem. Went the right way for the penalty and had no chance with the goals, good save towards the end ensured the three points for Wolves.

Ross 7 Enthusiastic performance the pick of the back four.

Edwards 6 Unlucky with the og, the ball had been overhit and was going out of play when he took a wild kick at it and sliced it over 'head into the net, bizarre.

Lescott 4 Fallen hero. Pathetic defending when he gave away the penalty, one excellent tackle in the first half the rest of the game was nondescript. Allowed Jon Parkin to dominate.

Naylor 5 Typical Naylor mixed bag, some poor defending but supported the attack well, too well on occasion and was caught on the break.

Davies 7 Excellent pass to Aliadiere for first goal, tackled well for a little feller good all round performance, will be even better with experience and a little more strength.

Ince 7 His own performance was adequate but he really brings out the best in the others. I hope we keep him in a managerial role.

Anderton 6 Clearly knackered when he went off, did a reasonable job in midfield he even tackled back a few times.

Aliadiere 8 Class, took his goal very well when under pressure from two Hull defenders. Linked and changed position well with his two fellow strikers and gave us a wide outlet.

Cort 7 Combined well with his fellow strikers and lost his marker to score his goal. Held the ball up well on occasion and defended well during the hectic finish when Hull pressurised us.

Miller 9MOTM Always available, took on the Hull defence and ran them ragged, took his goal well and supported Naylor in defence.

Subs

Kennedy 7 If fit should start instead of Anderton, always found his man and passed forward more than sideways.

Ricketts 6 Great ball for winner, always looed to go forward.

Frankowski Not on long enough, why did we buy him with these three up front, he nust be cover for injuries.

Just got back after a night up in Hull(smileys/smiley5.gif).Great result-especially with the gap narrowing to 2 points.Read in the paper today that Hoddle thinks our luck has changed for the better and he's right-we were a touch fortunate and we still do not look convincing IMO.

Plus points were definitely Davies and Alliadiere who, along with Miller were very good.On the downside Anderton and Naylor were poor and I just cannot believe what has happened to Lescott-he was 'bullied' by Parkin all match and had a shocker. He looks a shadow of his former self at the moment.

Hull hadn't won at home this year and looked very shaky when put under pressure but we made real hard work of this and apart from a little spell after half time,I thought we looked pretty ordinary. The pedestrian midfield and shaky defence made it nervous watching throughout.

Nonetheless, earlier this season we would definitely have lost/drawn this match after having been pegged back at 1-1 so perhaps we are becoming more resilient.I'm just not sure if we have what it takes to produce the run of results we need.Hope I'm wrong.

I saw Aliadiere guesture over to the bench he was tired and wanted to come off - which was a real shame as I couldn't see us scoring without him. Then I got proved wrong, although only after we blew the lead a second time.

Everything's else has been said Re. the match but two other observations:

1. Nice little stadium
2. How nice was it to actually hear the announcer? And he actually got the Hull crowd up for it. Why can't we do the same?

The announcer was very good, especially just before kick-off when the players had come out. Definately a shame we can't do something similar.

Yeah that's what I mean.

Hmmm maybe you're right. Even audible results round-ups would be a step in the right direction though. Maybe it's my age but I just can't hear our guy.
