Having seen Chris Cornes score a cracking goal at Telford anddo more in 10 mins against Kiddie than Colin Cameron did in 60 mins - Imat a lossas to why he hasn't been included in the squad for Dundee...
Anyone know of any reason why? - I'd have thought it would have been a useful exercise to get him involved, especially with a trophy involved, as i'd have thought it would be taken slightly more seriously.
His hat-trick yesterday was well timed methinks!
Thoughts?

What do you think his strengths are and bearing in mind the way that GH uses his pattern who would you play him with?

He is joining up with the squad isn't he?
WheneverI have seen him play he's looked tidy if a little, well, fat to be honest.

At Telford he played on the left side of the three forwards...

I'd play him as one of the wide players on the diamond for starters...
His goal against Telford was Scholes like, running through and receiving a flick from Davies. He's a stocky lad, a bit like Rooney in that respect, and surprisingly quick.

Maybe SC the squad had already been picked. Don't know why, if that is the case, it should or would negate Cornes from travelling but can't see any other reason why he isn't going.

We don't play the "diamond".

Asit's a fracture I'd suggest at least 6-8 weeks out for Clingan. Edited by: Sozzled Wolf
WOW said that these are the extra players going up seperately-
"Jones, Lowe, Clingan, Riley, Davies, Ganea and Ndah will join their team mates in Scotland later this evening."
Perhaps Cornes will take Clingans place now?

If he is a bit porky that might not be a bad thing as there is a lot of
talk about our players being lightweight. Good that he has pace with
it. I hope that Hoddle will give some of the youngsters a run in the
side this season.

He's solid - definitely not porky in a Mick Quinn sense. He doesn't get knocked off the ball easily asa result.

The ones with ability should get there chance. Ithink Davies will be the first, followed by Cornes. Mark Little is nowhere near ready.
Carl Ikeme should be our reserve until Murray returns.

Because some of them might be our future. It is only fair to give a
player a run in the side and unfair to just throw them in for the odd
match and criticise them for not being up to it. It is a difficult
balancing act but I feel that many a youngster gets to a certain level
and stays there whereas if they were nudged up to the next level they
might respond.
However if you prefer Journeymen who have got us nowheresmileys/smiley11.gif I would like to see us take more chances even if some of them do not pay off.

If Hoddle thinks the "Journeyman" are better than the kids then i'm happy for them to play....
From what i've seen only Davies comes close to getting in the 16.....

I agree, from what ive seen of Ikeme is promising! Jones is a cmplete waste of sapce only highlight of his career at wolves was Penalty shootout against Sheffield Wednesday in the 94/95 season!

Then you surely can have no complaint about the last twenty years or so.

Fair enough
Mark Little is nowhere near ready.
Surely a contradiction. If anything is holding this lad back it's lack of experience- as far as ability is concerned Little is up there with Cornes and Davies and possibly better.

So youARE suggesting playing the kids for the sake of it!!!!!!
Surely they have to earn a place in the 11....

I don't know how many times i've had to say this but i'll try again.....
Good youngsters will get themselves into the first team picture....
Naylor, Lescott, Keane, Clyde, Lowe, Murray, Proudlock, Robinson, Clarke all managed it and so will Davies, Cornes e.t.c but only if they are deemed good enough....
p.s we have not got rid of a youngster by mistake who has gone onto better things.....

Because you dont know how many times you have to say it does not make
it true. Yes some youngsters may make it despite almost anything but
others need good coaching and bringing on at the right time. The
argument that the youngsters we have let go have not done better
elsewhere does not get us back up in to top league football. And are
you then saying that our youth system is not good enough? None of us
can say for any certainty that some of the youngsters, some of whom
were highly rated, if they would have had better coaching and were
brought on at the right time would not have done better.
We need to look at the teams who are doing better than us to see the direction we need to take if we want to get back up there.

It was me suggesting GH should (as in most likely would) give them a chance, as opposed me telling GH he should give them a chance...
I agree that Little and the others will only get better with experience, but he plays in a position which Jackie Mac has got in his pocket for the forseeable future - unless he suddenly stops doing what he did for Celtic over 10 years. Davies and Cornes however, will get more opportunities, in terms of positions that could possibly play.
Little to Walsall written all over it... on loan of course.

I don't really know what you are saying to be honest....(old gold)
I don't think Glenn Hoddle or any manager for that matter would risk his job by throwing in youngsters that are not ready....
Regarding coaching of youngsters..... Our youngsters did very well last season compared to other teams but this does not mean they are ready for first team football....
The best teams in the country are Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal but they are not producing there own youngsters although i would agree it is harder for there youngsters to break into there respective first teams......
Coaching helps of course it does but i still believe that 90% of the time goodyoungsters with the right attitude will find there way through....Edited by: hampshire wolf

Hamp, it's definitely a case of people wondering if GH would be willing to be play them, if he thought they were ready - with age not being an issue. Half of this is because of DJ and his favourites - through hell and high water - and people saw that as negative towards younger members of the squad who would benefit from the chance.
It's surely a bonus that our youngsters have been given the chance to impress by playing in games with first-teamers recently.
There is no way GH would throw them in for the sake of it, or because he was under pressure from MMixers. But I think he would if the timing was right.

How? Where? Compared to other seasons. Leon Clarke is really the only
youngster who 'forced' his way through and look at the criticism of
him.Clingan was supposed to have been the next to break through some
years ago. He hasn't. Lowe made some brief appearances.
If you are going to compare with other sides then look at those that do
have youngsters coming through. There are enough if you look. What
about the youngster Burnley produced who they just sold, for example.

Its quite appalling that Mark Little is not in the first team. He is already 16 years old after all. And Davies is 17 for goodness sake - he should have played 30 first team games by now! And that fatty Cornes - he only scored a hattrick the other day when he should have scored twice that. Boo -down with Hoddle, down with these useless young players.
How stupid to gradually introduce these youngplayers into the first team squad and slowly build up their confidence. Why havn't we signed Michael Owen instead. What a rotten Friday. smileys/smiley7.gif
