As the verdicts are not exactly flooding in can someone who was there todayjust say something about the formation which on paper looks like another 4-3-3. No doubt shorty Frankowski in the centre being towered over by defenders and Cort and Miller playing as makeshift wingers. Ince, Ricketts and Kennedy being outnumbered, outrunand outmanoeuvered in midfield?

Surely Hoddle can see that we need Franko to feed off/dovetail with Cort with either Aliadiere in the 'hole' or a proper foursome in midfield. This for me would include Davies and Rosa (can he be worse than what we have got?) with Ince as holding midfielder. Ricketts was lousy today as I understand it but he has pace and skill when he is in the mood and I would persevere with him. Another alternative is 3-5-2 with Lescott, Craddock/Edwards/, Gyepes at the backand Ross and Naylor out wide with Ince, Rickettsand Davies/Rosa in the centre. No more Kennedy or Anderton. Franko and Aliadiere/Cort up front.

We have to have a stronger midfield presence imvand this 4-3-3, if that is what it is, is absolutely hopeless as many here have pointed out for months. The lack of goals being provided by three supposed classy strikers surely points to our midfield failing again and again toprovide enough clear chances up front and control midfield. Neither do they protect our defence adequately.Ok the strikers have missed a lot too but if we had two dovetailing in the centre rather than wasting time on the wing, that would help. Hoddle, a proper 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 makes sense but a dodgy4-3-3 is insane when your three midfielders are so weak or, in Ince's case, tooold.

But was Cort operating in the centre, using his height to cause troubleand dovetailing with Franko, or was he disappearing out wide?

Miller on the wing, no comment. Kennedy in the centre, no comment.

No it was two upfront.

So Cort wasn't doing his job or no service for them both from midfield and out wide. I assume the latter. What a shambles.

Very few chances created all game but Cort was bad today. The number of times he was out-muscled and offered little challenge to a high ball was far too many.

Saying that, whoever was upfront today wouldnt have scored because of the midfield that Hoddle picked.

Thanks Wombourne. At least Postma showed a bit of passion for a minute.....pity about the other 89 minutes.

Well that's not too bad so what the $$$$$$$ went wrong? AGAIN? Lack of desire? Too many midgets?

Why wasn't Davies or Cameron considered to start.Bothwere among the few players we had last week V's Man Utd who looked interested?

It was supposed to be a 4-4-2, though Cort was an utter donkey and often drifted out wide. Miller was a little better and tried to get up front as much as possible.

Oh and Davies was injured Essex. Cameron clearly should have been in the squad instead of Anderton! on the bench.

Cheers bear, didn't realise Davies was injured.

ooh la la

Don't know if this would work but how about shoving Kennedy
back into the left back position and utilizing Naylors speed in
mid-field? Anderton shouldn't even be an option anywhere when we have
Cameron.

If we were serious about sticking with 4-4-2, then Naylor would have to play LM. The only right-winger we have is Gobern, and he has returned from Blackpool now. We don't have anything to lose trying him, and he looked okay when he came on as a sub a couple of months ago.

I still think 3-5-2 is the one that makes the most of our current squad though.

And who plays LB then?

I didn't realise we started 4-4-2, them lot on the wolf said we were starting 4-3-3smileys/smiley36.gif

1wolves:

1. Kennedy would have to play LB (at least he wouldn't be in midfield).

2. Ross could be asked to play there. He might be ok but we'll never know unless we try him. Since he's not left-footed I don't like the idea though.

3. Daniel Jones promoted quickly to the first team at a very large risk.

4. God forbid we could actually loan someone to do a job there for a few months! A radical idea I know! The only problem is that anyone coming on loan probably wouldn't be as good as what we already have.
