Graham Turner was sacked in March 1993. Are we any further forward now from when GT went?

In a word, no.

Ok, we got to the prem once, briefly. SJH has spent loads of money in the intervening years, we have had numerous failed promotion attempts and for what? To be where we are today. Marooned in mid table, with a disorganised rabble of a team. Overpaid wasters disgracing the shirt that has been worn with pride by the likes of Wright, Hibbitt, Richards and Bull. A numpty of a manager who is so far up his own backside he can't see the wood for the trees. Keeps harping on about playing well, missing chances etc etc etc. Even in games we have won this season, we played mostly crap e.g. Luton home, Derby away.

Get shut of this loser - he can go on Celibrity BB next year!

Instead appoint an up and coming manager like Martin Allen or Parkinson at Colchester. Moxley says there is no money after this season, so get someone in who can work on a budget. Banish Miller to the reserves, ship out the likes of Seol and Craddock. Give mickey a new contract - he is one of the few who cares. Nurture the likes of Davies, give Little a chance. Appoint some decent scouts to find some promising talent.

We might stay mid table for a couple of seasons but sometimes you have to take a step back to go forward. Throwing money at over rated players and managers obviously doesn't work. We may lose some fans, the crowds may drop - but don't forget in the late 80's we were down to the hardcore 5000 or so, and look at the progress we made. We got to a point in 1993 where we have in the main stalled at ever since.

Rant over, and no doubt some of you will tear me to bits. But ask yourselves this honestly - is this any better than 1993?

No Fairview, it has not got better one jot. WhenTurner went (ironically after we lost 1-0 to Hoddle's Chelsea and then a disaster from nowhere at Portsmouth ) the club was in much better shape. I would trade the players we had then for the squad we had now.For example, Marsden, Bully, Thommo, Geoff Thomas, Robbie Denison, DavidKelly,Kevin Keen and Veno would get a game now . smileys/smiley18.gif Edited by: Leicesterwolf

fairview,

I'm not going to tear into you, but we have actually been in the
play-offs on 4 occasions since 1993 and won promotion once. Taylor,
McGhee and Jones all improved on 1993 whereas Lee and Hoddle haven't.
Taylor, McGhee and Jones all brought success to some degree, but none
managed to sustain it.

We have a top academy, we now have great training facilities and a
ground that is still good compared to many similar sized clubs. We have
got players who have been with the club since they were 9 years old and
ten years later they show promise of being good first teamers. The club
is also finally breaking even on the financial front.

All that the club lack is a decent manager, one that can sustain success for more than one season.

Who could forget Peter Shirtliff or Stuart Gray or John Ward?

We are a massive leap forward from 1993 and we need someone urgently to make the most of it.

fairview, why would we stay mid table, other clubs doing exactly that are wll above us in the league NOW. passion in the side, decent ability, and battling midfield and 27000 fans would pack the rafters(at the right pricesmileys/smiley2.gif) because that would see us winning games.

ID - so you class the last 15 years or so as a success? 3 play-off heartaches. 1 FA Cup Semi that was as one-sided as there's been in the history of the competition? ONE promotion and a very disappointing season in the top flight is all we have to show for it. And what is now an okay ground, but certainly not one of the best in the division let alone the country.

SJH took over and said his aim was to make us one of the top teams in the country, Cup finals, Europe, etc. We're not even close.

Bradford have had more seasons in the Premiership!

Them lot down the road are looking like making it 4 of the last 5 seasons in the top flight and have done it on a fraction of what we've spent.

Will the club break even next year without the parachute money? Only by increasing ST prices AGAIN.

I'd LOVE the club to come out and say there's no money but we'll bring through our youth players and top it up with some up-and-coming players from the lower leagues and plan to make the top flight in 3-4 years time than keep chopping and changing every 18 months.

We've gone NOWHERE in 15 years. Swindon, Bradford, Barnsley, Watford and now Wigan have all had spells in the top flight, sowe can't say for sure that we wouldn't have got to the Prem at least once WITHOUT SJH.

Bolton, Charlton and Boro are all teams of a similar or smaller stature than us but have become established Premiership teams whilst we've gone nowhere.

It' ****ing depressing!!
