If you are a casual fan and only go to a few games a season and have decided Sunday is one to go for, why have you picked that game?

Is it Wolves you are going to see or the opposition?

Who would want to miss a chance to have their face painted, wear a jesters hat, have party poppers and have the chance to get their face on Sky........

Wolves. Our overpaid 'superstars' are more likely to turn up if we're playing Man Utdrather thanPlymouth.

Well its like they sing "You've only come to see United".

I wouldn't like to think of myself as a 'casual' fan, but as I can only afford to get up there for half a dozen games or so a season I guess I try and get to the games which are more likely to provide entertainment value, this being one of them.

You can imagine my delight at watching us fall miserably to the mighty Millwall at a cost of about £80 smileys/smiley36.gif. Although at least there were goals, I also went to the Southampton games...smileys/smiley11.gif

But in all likelyhood we'll get beat. How is that entertaining?

Much as I'd want us to win, I watched us beat Hull earlier in the season and that was far from entertaining. I watch football for the tension and excitement it can provide, and a big occassion game like this is likely to bring out the best in the players (along with the bonus of seeing the skills of Rooney etc). OK so I guess that makes me a fairweather fan in some respects, but I can't afford not to be (bearing in mind I probably still spend more money following the team than some local STH's)..

The way I see it:

1. There will be some decent football on display (from at least one side).

2. The atmosphere should be very good for a change.

3. There is a chance of a big upset.

Orinoco, don't justify yourself. That isn't what I meant.

If I was only going to 6 home games this season this would be the last one I'd go for.

I'd have gone

Reading

Leeds

Palace

Sheff Utd

Norwich

and Cov.

Under Glenn it was bound to be poor anyway.

if i had've been going, i would have been going to see man utd. i see enough of our crap week in week out, thats why i didnt go to the plymouth cup game.

if i have to watch us get beat, it may as well be by players i've heard of.

I'd like to think most casual Wolves fans normally go to see Wolves rather than the opposition more for the atmosphere/beating a top side (lets face it-who's gonna be excited about watching Warnocks teams).

The difference between our highest and lowest attendances isnt that great which seems to prove my point if you disregard the cup games-i'd hate us to be classed in the same way as Villa fans who tend to only get 20,000 if playing Charlton then fill the place when Man utd/Liverpool come to town-they definitely have a lot of very casual fans who go as much to see the opposition as their own team.

Fair enough. I think Mr Bear summed it up nicely in that case!

(I do tend to get a bit agitated at the whole glory-hunting / fairweather issue, I realise that's not what you were getting at..)

How can you describe going to a match that you are probably going to get beat 5-0 and absolutely embarassed as Glory hunting

By that token why did any of us buy season tickets for the Premiership? smileys/smiley1.gif

I guess the thing is, you know we're almost certainly going to lose, but personally I wouldn't want to risk missing us pull off a shock.

Because as the team scraping up through the play offs..... SJH said he'd match the SKY money "to stay there" and we/the manager/the players believed him ? smileys/smiley1.gif

I often wonder whether Dave Jones thought he was building a 4-5-1 or a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3 side or whether in the end he just tore his plans up and told the players to go out and play for themselves and get a transfer.....

I feel the chant of 'where were you when we were s!$*?' being prepared for the casual fan....admit it IMAB, you'll be singing it to the TV won't you? Mind you perhaps you should change it to...'why are you here when we are s!$*?'...insteadsmileys/smiley2.gif

i dont see the problem with casual fans.

The more the merrier at the end of the day, and if it means just 5% of them/kids get hooked, great!

See the sell out thread for more ofwhat I think.
