<DIV style="PADDING-RIGHT: 4px; PADDING-LEFT: 4px; PADDING-BOTTOM: 4px; PADDING-TOP: 4px" ="post">We see many rules in the wonderful game that are frustrating, controversial and pointless. I would like for you people to say if you had the choice, what single rule would you amend.
One of the rules I find incredibly annoying is when a defender is allowed to obstruct an attacker when apparently "sheilding" the ball as it goes out for a goal kick.
If this was done in any other area of the pitch, it would be given as obstruction.
What would you change?

The stringency around the rules regarding goal celebrations. Should not be abooking in my opinion unless it is blatantly incitefull. Banter should be allowed in my opinion.

The ridiculous scenario when a player is injured in a challenge (usually a foul by the opposition)and is asked to leave thefield of playuntil the referee calls him back on. The wronged party is penalised in this situation.

Players picking the ball up and walking away with it when a free kick is awarded against them, if they kick it away they get booked but walk away and it's fine.

I'm not sure if there's anything I would change, to be honest. I might like to see slightly bigger goals, but that's about it, really.

Bigger goals? What a strange idea.

A sin-bin would be nice as well and maybe another card, it's stupid that you get the same punishment for a dreadful tackle as you do for celebrating a goal or kicking the ball away.

i think the player who commited the foul should have to stay off the field until the injured player goes back on thus not penalising the wrong side.

Injured players being treted on the pitch whilst the game continues (ie same as rugby) - this would stop players pretending to be injured to waste time for whatever reason (and give the paying public more value for money).

Its hard to pick one rule but I would look at what the British public want and then base the rules around that. I just believe within reason in giving the customer what he wants.
If I had to choose one it would be the offside rule. I am behind Cloughie on this in that if a player is on the pitch he is interfering with play. Full stop.

I'd introduce the sin bin. 10 minutes off for a bookable offence. Do it three times and you're off for good.

can't decide....

You can only be offside in the final third of the pitch, and there was none of this 'phases of play' nonsense.

One referee in each half

4 linesmen, one to look at when a ball is played, and one to keep in line with the last defender. Onl when both flags are raised is offside given.

Not a rule change as such but i would like to see players that dive to win penaltys have longer bans and TV evidence after the game should be used to stop the cheating b!$*!$*ds...(Pires, Dickov and Van Nistelrooy to name 3)... Also players like Savage who go down clutching there face even though they have not been touched there....

I hate these cheats......

As a defender I disagree.

My rule change would be that if an oppositionplayer goes to the corner flag to waste time at the end of a game, at least one player is legally allowed to "halve him" as we call it in Sunday league football.

Mine would be to ban goalkeepers from coming out of the area (like some 5-a-sides).

That way teams would have to defend alot deeper to negate the goalkeeper/sweeper position that most teams have. Would also stopthe 2 or 3 minutes of wasted time every time a keeper kicks the ball as he waits throws it 20 yards forward, then kicks it!

I would have penalties allowed for decisions outside of the box.

Say for example a player gets pulled down outside the area when clear through on goal, there could be only a few minutes left yet the attacking team don't really get much of an advantage but a free kick.

I would leave it to the discretion of the referee as to how cynical the challenge was as to whether the ,defending player gets sent off and as he is through on goal irrelevant of whether its inside or outside of the box the attacking team gets a penalty kick.

Agreed, one of the most stupid rules the game has ever intoduced IMV.

I know you said only one, but I have advocated or spoken my mind in bars (all over the world) and the main changes I would like to see,

1 If a player goes down from what is a tap to the head (or shoulder or chest) and lies on the ground for more than 10 seconds, bring on the para medics, put him in a neck brace cart him off to the nearest hospital, give him a brain scan (if they can find it) and keep him in over night. That would cut out alot of the play acting.

2. No substitutions after the 85th minute, as it is blatent time wasting, unless the person suffers an injury.

3 Revert back to the offside rule where if a player is in an offside position he is offside, no one knows what is happening at the moment.

4 Finally bring in video evidence for diving or any form of cheating and give long bans, all forms of cheating should be kicked out of the game.

Offside is offside, full stop. I don't care if the player in question is unconcious by the corner flag, if he' offside then he's offside. This "active" rule is just rubbish.

Standing in front of the ball to stop a free kick being taken quickly really p!$**s me off.

I'd like the ref's to be mic'd up like they do in rugby, not only does it allow the referee to explain a decision should he need to it'll also cut down on some of the foul and abusive language that certain players, especially big fat scouse ones seem to think is acceptable.

No, to quick free kicks ever.

What I would like to see come in is that if a player injures another player and the injured player is out for a period then the offending player also has to be out for that period.

A tiger cage with a timer behind the subs bench. Once the board has gone up for the substitution, the countdown begins. After a certain amount of time, the cage opens, resulting in a mauling for the substitute. Once play resumes though, the timer is reset.

I'dlike to see more accountability after the game has finished and TV evidence can brought to bear. The league already has a system whereby players can be chargedor have red cardsrescinded based on video evidence. I'd like to see this taken further even to the point of having points deducted. I'm thinking for example of situations where a player dives, wins a penalty and changes the course of match. I'd like to see the current rules made to work before adding others such
as handball, off side, deliberate fouls etc.
The ball with a sensor that detects if it has crossed the line, consulting
video before giving decisions may come but what I would really like to see
is :-
1) 4 linesman each running only one half of the line. This would allow
much clearer decisions especially in the box hand balls, fouls etc. The
cost would ne negligable compared with players wages etc.
2) Better training for linesman/ referees based on a 5 man team at every
game. Referee to except a majority decision from linesman and not over
rule their decisions. Imagine 3 out of 4 linesman calling a foul and the
refereee not able to over rule.

Lots of possibilities here.Edited by: OldWolvesfart

I'd introduce a rule where every player must collect their wages, in cash, from the center circle at the end of every game.
