Why?

4-2-3-1 hasn't worked.

At leats we've won games under 4-4-2. Just my two cents of course...but if we're going to play rambunctuous wingers, we should have two men in the middle.

Why people clamour for Edwards to be dropped when he was our best player tonight is beyond me - if he could just work on his finishing we'd be in a much better position. The Milijas love-in baffles me - a couple of long range goals and people are sold

I actually couldnt care less who plays now as we will still lose with the current manager we have in charge.
One thing you can guarantee is that the likes of Milijas and Hammill will be nowhere to be seen whilst some of the usual plodders start or get on the bench.

I'd probably rest Foley for a game or two if Zubar is fit - he struggled against both Liverpool and Villa and go with this:

Hennessey

Zubar - Johnson - Bassong - Ward

Kightly - Edwards - Frimpong - Jarvis

O'Hara
Fletcher

Yeah I'd probably go with that as well - assuming Zubar is fit looks a very powerful side. My only concern is with Edwards we may be a little exposed in central midfield when under pressure but the only alternative is Eggy until KH is back.

One comment though - we don't need to play two wide players in every game now. It's becoming a cliched busted flush and with the creativity with O'Hara's return plus more calmness, solidity and inventiveness from Frimpong we may be able to dispense with either Kites or Jarvo for some games [not necessarily this one].

What? Edwards was awful. He runs and gets into decent positions but when he gets there he's $$$$. We need quality and Edwards has none.

I also agree with that team and your point about two wingers-in some games they may be a luxury (I mean games we are looking at where realistically we might be hoping for a point, although, having said that, we are now in a position where we have to be more positive, generally).

I dont know!!

On one hand, other than The Egg, the team McCarthy picked last night was the team I would've picked. But on the face of it, that same team needs a serious freshen up because it is absolutely devoid of confidence.

So with that in mind:

Hennessey
Foley Johnson (only just) Bassong Ward (again only just I think he's been quite poor the last few weeks)
Kightly Frimpong O Hara Jarvis
Doyle Fletch

However when you've just shipped 3 pussy ass goals at home going to 442 away requires some serious balls... balls I dont think McCarthy has.

I expect that team with Bassong coming in for either Johnson or Berra... and Edwards for Doyle.

Let's get our best players on the pitch and have a bloody go.

I'm disgusted at how bad Eggert Jonnson was last night. There is no way he is and ever will be a premiership footballer.

Also, how anyone can pick Roger Johnson ahead of Berra is criminal. I would pick Paul Butler ahead of Johnson currently.

They murdered us when we played 4-4-2 at Molineux but as they hav signed Cisse and Zamora they may well go 4-4-2 under Hughes. I would definitely drop Bambi and strip him of the captaincy. He has been a complete disaster and something seems really wrong since he has been here. I'd have one winger and as Jarvis never scores can't cross and can't defend it has to be Kites. I would play a much narrower midfield than we have been doing of late and this will give Ward and Zubar room to get forward.

1st selection the right one for me.

Even if O'Hara is half fit he has to play, even if only for 50-60 minutes. Better to go for it from the start then try and defend a lead than bring him on trying to chase the game.

Good attacking bench too.

We need to play 4-5-1 otherwise we struggle in midfield. Part of this might be due to the fact that we play two out and out wingers, rather than a wide midfielder (but I don't want Hunt in doing that job). I want us to play two wingers and give it a real go at QPR, rather than sitting back and inviting them to come on to us. I hope O'Hara is fit.

I agree two wingers in a 4231 formation for me with the two full backs giving width and the two holding covering when they go forward.

My main dilemer now who are the two CB, one Bassong with one of three, Craddock, Berra and Johnson. Personally I would go with Berra, he has been our best CB all season.

But will Mick drop Rodger again??

What do we actually think Mick will do?

Whereas he's gone with the team the majority of us would have chosen for the last 3 games, the consensus as to what is our best XI at this current time seems to have dissolved now. Which way do you think Mick will go, keeping faith with the 4-5-1, or going back to the 4-4-2?

I, for what it's worth, really like Jalwolf's team and would pick that.

They are our 11 'best' players.

Agreed if they were all playing well but there are two who are way off form, Doyle and Johnson.

Therefore I would stick with 451, put Berra in place of Johnson and put Edwards on in place of Doyle as a midfielder

I've been championing the 4-5-1, but the fit and able personnel at the moment would suit 4-4-2.

If we go 4-5-1 then just take Doyle out, O'Hara in the hole and Eggert into midfield.

We aren't going to win enough games playing 4-5-1. It's too defensive and should only be used against the top 6. We need start playing 4-4-2 and now we have O'Hara, Frimpong and Bassong fit and ready. It should give MM the confidence to start with 2 strikers instead of 1.

A bit of a change, but I don't think we can play with 2 wingers, especially away from home as it leaves us too light at the back and in midfield.

We need to win games, but we also need to defend better. I just think this formation gives us more cover at the back and allows us to have 2 strikers upfront, with a bit of creativity in Midfield and we know Foley and Ward like to get forward.

Fletcher has scored more goals with his head than anybody last year, but how many times in a game recently have Jarvis & Kightly got to the byline and whipped a ball in?

Haha! It does seem a bit extreme, but if Zubes and Wardy were pushing on, we'd be left with 3 at the back and probably Henry just in front.

Playing 3 at the back would free up Frimpong, because he's wasted when Mick plays him deep like he did against Liverpool.

I'd be happy with PureGold's or KightlyForEnglands' suggestions. Definitely with Zubar over Stearman if fit (in PG's).

Or...

...............Hennessey.............
..........................................
Foley..Johnson...Bassong..Ward
..........................................
.........Frimpong......O'hara.......
Hammill.........................Jarvis
.............Doyle......................
.....................Fletcher..........

I think this could be a great game for Doyle to prove his worth and help him gain some confidence. Having said that, I'd sooner see PureGolds team start.

Everyones choosing O hara, but he cant be fit.

I think were as clueless as to who to pick, as Mick is at the moment

If Ohara isn't Milijas must

Milijas > Eggert

Agreed...and if O'Hara gets tired we can drop Doyle or Edwards in the hole behind Fletcher.

I have a horrible feeling he will go with the Egg.

Of course he will. He'll set up 'not to lose' like he always does.

Does anyone else think he may well stick Bassong in midfield:

Hennessey

Foley - Johnson - Berra - Ward

Bassong - Frimpong

Kightly - O'Hara - Jarvis

I hope Frimpong takes up a position further forward and hopefully Foley will move in as DM with O'Hara alongside him.

I can just see Mick doing something mad like Bassong left back and Ward in midfield.

Not sure about Milijas he looked like a man who has lost all confidence recently.

Funny how nearly everyone on here picks Foles or zubes for rb and it seems Mick is selecting stears!
