For those of us drowning in the morass of negativity I thought I would mention a bright point. Davies has caught the eye of many posters on here and garnered the MOTM from the mix for Saturday.

This morning's telegraph names him as the Teenager to look out for from the weekend. Some quotes

"Davies has England ambitions of his own and...is clearly captain material"

"excitement about Davies is beginning to spread"

"Davies outshone his illustrious team-mate (Ince)"

"If Davies maintains this form goals will flow and Wolves will have found a player to build a team around"

Perhaps this sort of thing is rather more worthy of 8 pages than a Leon Clarke gesture?

How soon before we start reading the stories on here about him being out getting drunk with his fellow players? If he buys himself a pair of golden boots than we know he will sink without trace.

After his last spell in the team I began to wander wether the hype was too big or wether the team around him just weren't good enough to shine.

It was obviously the team as the weekends performance showed what Davies could do when playing in a slightly better team and given some decent posession.

Some fantastic runs with amazingly quick feet, strong into any tackles and a superb passer! No wonder he captains his country!

Davies has been earmarked by Wolves as a future star since he was 13. I remember going round the pitches a number of years ago. One of the Academy guys called me over to look at this 13 year old playing in an u15 game..... He was good very good. He played for England as an underage player u16's when he was an u15 (memory may not be too good on this). Wolves took him out of school at 15 to train with the first team. We need to get promoted within the next 2 or 3 years to keep this guy....... He can become on of our greats.... Players like this only come along every few years the last one for us was Keane, other young players need nurturing and patience players like this find the step up very easy.

Its nothing to do with the team around him. He has been carrying a hernia injury. Now its cleared up we should see the best of him. For me Ince's time is up - he has done his bit over the years but as we all acknowledge we need some legs in the middle of the park. Time to ditch Ince and co and bring in Davies.

He seems to have everything - Decent pace, great skill, ability to pass, take people on, energyand best of all seems to have a real edge to him. I hope he has the attitude to want to play football, he can go as far as he wants. Im looking forward and excited to watch his progress.

Play Ince, Hud, Cameron / Rosa and Davies as midfield four. Nice mixture of age and playing styles. Leave Kennedy on the bench or as temporary stand-in for Naylor.

The defence is not perfect but is improving. Unfortunately in attack the strikers don't / can't strike. Wolves must sign one, or preferably two, new strikers to stand any chance of getting into the play-offplaces and staying there.

It great to have a positive note. I just hope that he is committed to Wolves in the same way thay Lee Naylor is or even Joleon Lescot.

I think Davies has convinced all of us he is a young star in the making but i cant wait for Chris Cornes to join him in the first team. This would really be the beginning of a midfield to build a team round

Cornes also received a mention in the article, along with Hennessey and Martin Riley. It would appear that our acadeny is getting noticed.

Great!! We've also got Gobern and Little who are more than worthy of a mention.

It's great that he's from the area as well, good luck to the kid.

Let's hope he's still with us in 10 years time unlike our last great find who we sold to bloody Coventry of all teams. Groan!

Agreed. Davies was the major difference between us and Plymouth at the weekend; someone who had the desire and ability to beat players and drive at the oppostion, which created a host of chances.

Hopefully, he will have a big part to play in the remainder of our season.

Also agree about Cornes and Little, who both look like they have the potential to be big assets for Wolves in the future.

Ok positive Monday! Davies to establish himself in the team by end of season. England U.21s next season. First England cap 2009. Cornes, Riley and Little start appearing regularly on subs bench by end of this season and all make first team appearances of some kind. Next season all pressing for first team spot, by end of season all break through into first team with Hennessey and Murray competing for goalkeeper's jersey. We are promoted as Champions with Lescott still with us, having signed a new four year contract extension.

I've read few reports so far this morning where Davies is mentioned as a good player in every one.

He did do well Saturday in what was mostly a boring game and if Wolves can keep hold of him the future looks brighter for a change.

We have a midfield to stand up to most with Davies in the team!

He is showing some good qualities now and I hope he can develop under the guidance of Ince!

With tonights reserve win against w!$* Brom and Cort back on target, I am really looking forward to some positive football over the next few games.smileys/smiley32.gif

I know Davies was motm on sat, and thought it was odd people who went
to the game wern't raving about him. With him and lescott and hopefully
murray (please god) we have solid foundations to build a future team
around. Add to that peeps like little and cornes then hopefully the
furture should be rosy...

We just need a good manager to bring them on.

is being pushed. Could be worse..........DJ could still be here.

Don't think he'll bring players through as well as some might, he wants to sign players to fill in our blanks.

All this mention of Little, and yet I haven't noticed him making the
starting 11 in the reserves for a while now. If he's as good as some
people say, why isn't he a regular?

Because he's only just 17 and we have plenty of right-backs. His time will come.

So he's no better than Lowe then? Even when Lowe was at Burnley I don't think he was playing.

Lowe is highly regarded at burnley and played in all but two games for them. Formed a good partnership with frank sinclair.

Well foyle shipped cornes back to wolves so maybe he isn't doing as well as people think.

Give mark little time, we'll know more next year.

Riley is good but hasnt progressed as much as he should have done froma year ago.

I heard a story the other day that he was on a ridiculous goal bonus at
Port Vale, hence why he wasn't being played that much. Don't know how
true that is mind, but when I've seen him I've always been quite
impressed. For a young player he seems to have a hell of a presence on
the pitch, and surprisingly mobile for a 'big' guy.

Riley came back from a broken leg last Oct so this season may be to early for him but next season expect him to be pushing Naylor all the way

Markwolf

Exile, isn't Riley a centre half? When i saw him he reminded me of Michael Dawson.

Exile Wolf
10-01-2006, 12:45
Watched him the reserves against WBA Oct last year and he played LB but is very tall so may well be a CB. Either way he played very well at LB, but spot on with the comparsion with Dawson

Id love to see Gobern playing this season. I reckon he deserves a chance. We dont currently have many decent wide players who are willing to run to the by line, and i think its something missing from our game at the moment.

10-01-2006, 16:02
Watched Davies skipper young England at the Mol and score a goal I just hope that Wolves dont let him go as easily as we did Robbie Keane

There are quite a few other youngsters who can bring the club forward but if we have an owner who is non commited and a CEO who trys to run the club like a business - unless this changes Imv these players will be moved on if their financial value outweighs the clubs ambitions! smileys/smiley13.gif

I really hope this doesnt happen - But look at the Ronnie Keane scenario - Did we really need to sell him?

Uncle Festa

Riley is a centre half, although I saw him play midfield against Liverpool last season where he had a stinker but he was up against Gerrard!

Apparently Hennessey is a very bright prospect. Neville Southall has gone on record as saying that he could be one of the best keepers to come out of British football as long as he is coached correctly.

High praise indeed . Very impressed with what i have seen of him (admittedly only seen him twice!)

Davies was head and shoulders above anybody else on the park on Saturday, and if he doesn't become the next big name at Wolves, then something is seriously wrong at the club.

Little needs a while yet before he's brought into the team, he's too young and plays in a position where his confidence could get shot to pieces very quickly.

Unfortunately everytime I see Cornes the name "Proudlock" springs to mind, I hope I'm wrong.

Del Woppio
10-01-2006, 16:35
there was a quote in last months 442 magazine, where a member of the Port Vale squad said something along the lines of "I room with Chris Cornes and i've never seen anybody eat so much"

I really hope the lad makes the most of his obvious natural ability.
