I think if his agent knows whats best for him he'll keepPostma of all people well away from Holland, what with all the dirty escapades they get up to there. smileys/smiley2.gif

he would be the first deal i would look to conclude in the window. another clean sheet yesterday. we have got likethe 3rd best defence in the league now. im much happier with him in goal then oakes.

buy him, and have a defender take the goal kicks. simple as.

johnybig32

rubbish.

when kicking down the middle, he can do it no problem. hes being asked to kick it to the wing, to either seol, or ndah last night. this is largely more difficult then just booting it down the middle!

then why doesn't he just turn his body 20 degrees and pretend he's kicking it down the middle ? Some of Saturday's kickswere reminiscentof the dreadful Matt Murray. He just manages to reach45 yards distance...but can't keep it on a 55yrd wide pitch? Come on.....

because have you saw how useless ganea is in the air??this is why he has to kick it to the wing, and it is much harder to be as accurate when kicking to a smaller area...

Del Woppio

Postmas kicking is awful, end of. 4 out of 10 go out of play. he is actually afraid to kick the ball directly frm his hands. i like him as a keeper, but i think lescott or naylor should take the goal kicks as they are better long range passers.

johnybig32
29-12-2005, 14:04
some of you dont really know what you are talking about...

how many keepers now kick the ball out of their hands?? none??

the ball is being kicked to the wing, PURPOSELY! if cort was down the middle, none of this discussion would be happening as its easier to aim the ball right down the middle then a selected area on the wing...

Del Woppio

if you believe this is being done deliberately thenyou needyour head checked. we are in a situation where we are losing possesion from around 40% of goal kicks, and we have been for the last 10 games. Why would this be part of a rational game plan? I'd suggest it is not i thatknows not of what he speaks, Johnny. If the ball is being deliberately passed to the wings by a competent goal kick taker then why does it go down the middle everyso often?

So if Postma can't do it, why doesn't he or the manager change it to shorter balls to players dropping back?

Oakes is much better at kicking the ball downfield than Postie. Unfortunately for Oaksie the defence generally looks better when he's not playing. It was just the same when he was in competition with Matt Murray, who also could be a bit iffy when kicking the ball.

Sadly for Oakes, who seems to be a good professional, he's never been as good at the goalkeeping lark as he has at kicking the ball.

Maybe he should have gone to the USAandtried out as a goalkicker inAmerican football!

I have to agree with johnybig32 , last night every kick was aimed towards Ndah on the right wing (then Seol after Ndah was injured)so not much blame should go to Postma its what he is being told to do , the 3 or 4 that were kicked towards Ganea were easily cleared as he is terrible in the air !!

postma's loan doesn't come to an end until Jan 21st or some date very
close to that, so it won't be renegotiated unil closer to then unless
we decide we want to buy him quick before anyone else puts an offer in.

I agree with Florida. Every timeany goalie gives it the big boot it's never anything better than a 50/50 ball. If we really are supposed to be a passing side who try to play football why not work the ball out from the back?

I think Postma is the difference between staying in the Prem and relegation.......IF we ever get there again!

Look at West Ham - they signed a class goalie in Roy Carrol. He has made some amazing saves since they went up. Nearly always something about him on TV every week because of his antics.

We seriously need to be looking at keeping hold of him. He keeps us in more games than any other team member. He has some great reaction saves in his locker. I don't care if can't goal kick, its the rest of his game that impresses me.

Postiecan be taught to kick. He was born a good keeper.

Oakesy can kick very well. He was born to be an average keeper.

We will win more games with Postie in the side, despite his dodgy kicking. So, unless Matt Murraycanget offthe treatment table for more than a few days at a time, we've just got to sign the Postie.

Murrays kicking was suspect at times so....

Murray's kicking was as bad as Postma's, I'm sure he used to shut his eyes and just hope for the best.

We've been spoiled by Oakes, still don't think there's a better kicker in Britain.
If we can stick Oakes's feet on Murray's body and inject Postma's reflexes....we'd have a fabulous keeper.

I forgot Blahblah. It's been a long time since we've seen him in action, but yes, Matt Murray was not the world's greatest kicker either. However, just like the Postie, he could have learned.

Sadly, Oakes is the mightiest kicker of the ball at the Mol since Phil Parkes, but just like the great man he's not a great keeper.

,

We've been spoiled by Oakes,

that would be quite a nasty experience i guess .....

We have a goalkeeping coach called Mr Mimms who should supposedly besorting outany of Postma's weaknesses. There seems little evidence that he is. It is not acceptable for a 29 year old goalkeeper of his experience to be poor at kicking. It is ridiculous. I suggest we get him to improve somewhatbefore offering him a £0.5m or whatever annual pay package.

His kicking is bad but it is not bad enough for it tocost us any goals so far. It doesn't bother me if he only kicks the ball to the halfway line as long as he's making goal stopping saves..

He is the best keeper available to us and def worth signing, Done nothing wrong so far..
