View Full Version : Clinigan bid made
Chesterfield have bid £50k for Sammy Clinigan.
I'm not sure he's going to get a look in if he stays.
Had high hopes for him, but another one of the old youth team who just can't quite cut it I feel.
Probably best he's sold.
For 50K? We're better off keeping him for backup.

Clingan should be worth a lot more than that. £250,000 I would say. Why are all our players so undervalued by other clubs - are they really that crap? Cort £1m. Miller £800,000 etc.
Indeed, 50k is a pathetic amount, not even a weeks wages. Tell them where to go.

How much did Newton go for?
Perhaps is we put in a few clauses, with sell on and
appearance it would make sense? If he's not going
to get a chance here what's the point? Or perhaps a
seaon long loan would be a better choice?

50k doesn't seem much considering the time and
effort put into an academy player, especially if what I
have read about him is true that he has some talent.
A season long loan would make sense - to give him
valuable first team experience, and for us to see if he
is capable of playing at a higher level than reserves.
Is he signed onto a professional contract with us?

50K ain't a lot of use to us really is it, and I doubt his wage bill is too much of a problem.
Why not let him go there on loan, see how he gets on, but keep him on our books in case he turns out to be a 'good 'un'?
Clingan is out of contract next summer so the £50k offer probably reflects that.
Don't forget we sold Adam Proudlock for just £150k after scoring quite
a few goals and making far more first team appearances than Clingan has
managed.
I'd favour sending him out on loan.

Clingan's 21. If he is going to break through into the first team he should really be pushing hard for a place now, but it doesn't seem as though he is really putting much pressure on the senior players ahead of him. It might be better for him to try elsewhere, leaving more room for the next crop of young players to progress.

Cheers for the birthday message Baggie. Was hoping that when i got back from work yesterday we may have signed someone to make the day a bit special but all i got was that Camara was returning! then he still didn't bother training!!

i think the boss meant 14 more so it is 50, i think we will sign the guy from derby soon, now that the story is out big time,
ah I see, sorry.13 more and the star's mine! he'd be a decent purchase but I still would like to see Stubbs come in to add some vocal support for the back line. That rumour started ages ago and with the fact that he's now without a club if it is going to happen then it would be soon i suppose. fingers crossed!

i think that if we were going to sign stubbs we would by now as he would have known of our interest by now, i cannot believe though that when you read that reading have just broken there transfer record with lita 1m and they are in the running for promotion, just goes to show that we have waisted some serious money,

We certainly have wasted money over the years on players who fancies one last big pay day. I orginally come from the Reading area and they are the club who I hate the most to be honest. Lita will form a decent partnership with Kitson but I can only still see them making the play-offs, no higher. True about Stubbs, but he's known he wasn't staying at the toffee men for a while now and hasn't signed for anyone yet so maybe we are one of many clubs who have made offersand he's just weighing up which one is best for him as it will be his last contract. He needs to hurry up though as every club has been back for pre season for a couple of weeks so whoever he does sign for he'll be a touch behind everyone else.

How can you ask £250,000 for someone who hasn't started a first team game??? The market has reduced dramatically - with Leicester paying £5.5m Akinbiyi the straw that broke the camels back
Selling Clingan, including wages, would be a £100k saving... why should we hold the lad back??

Under Jones and now Hoddle how many kids have been given a run in the
side? I think Clarke is probably the nearest of late. But if Clingan is
not going to be given a chance then let him go.

Agreed but Chesterfield supporters reckon they will get promoted if they get him - I'm not joking.
Good to see a Wolves topic kept on thread.
"£250 000" for a player yet to make his full debut for a Championship side is a little steep, £50 000 seems realistic to me.
Sammy hasn't really had ( or taken) the chance at Wolves and has notably missed the trip to Spain.
At 21 and seemingly a long way off the starting 11 it probably is time for him to move on, and I think hewould now prefer a move.
Good luck to him, he's good lad, and I think he may be the one Youth player who moves on, and we look back in couple of years time and say "if only".
