Statistics can prove anything you want

So they say, but I’m not so sure.

1) Can statistics show GH is a better manager this
season than DJ was last year?

2) Can statistics show GH is a better manager at
this level than DJ was?

Show us the stats and we'll tell you, because I'm too lazy to look for them myself.

statistically, if one uses the patented Paddingtonwolf model that does not count defeats by more than 2 goals, we actually stayed in the Prem and are prospering.

Champions league beckons, apparently

Many years ago, I cannot remember if it was Dave Allen or David Frost
quoted the following statistics. 5 percent of all road accidents are
caused by drunken drivers.............which means that 95 percent are caused by the sober ones.smileys/smiley4.gif

Jones overall totals games 124 W54 D37 L33 points 199 ave 1.6

I'm going to state the obvious:

So we're doing better this season than last under Hoddle, but in a season, DJ appears to be the better manager, although from what the league table says we're not in any betterposition than last season, i.e. not challenging for the top spots.

Thanks SOA,for me it proves that we are aCLUBin stagnation, and theTEAMis just an addenda to this malaise.

Well worth the £1million we've payed Hoddle over the last year then.

I think I've asked this question before, because this is not the first time I've been compared to this mysterious, enigmatic character.

WHO IS ULVEN?

In the last three matches Craddock has played in we have conceded 6 goals and lost them all.

Coincidence or damning statistics. You choose.

Sorry Axle missed a set, which shows we are doing a lot WORSE this season under Hoddle than last, he is doing better than Jones when sacked, but over the first 39 games Jones was better and Jones was continually improving overall UNTIL last season...it was one of two blips (not counting the PL), the other being the infamous end of season cave in to Albion.

Last season under Hoddle :

P 23 W 8 D14 L1 points 38 ave 1.65

Team in DJ's last game:

Wolves: Oakes, Lowe (Sturridge 45), Kennedy, Cameron (Ince 90), Lescott, Bischoff (Craddock 61), Cooper, Olofinjana, Seol, Cort, Newton.

Unused subs: Murray, Clarke.

Team on Saturday, 1 year on:

Wolves: Oakes, Edwards, Naylor, Anderton (Seol 77), Lescott, Gyepes (Ross 45), Craddock, Kennedy (capt), Huddlestone, Miller (Olofinjana 83), Clarke.
Unused subs: Cameron, Postma.

I think we're better off now, particularly bearing in mind all the injured players.

Also, whatever the problems with Saturday's defeat, it was immensely better than Gillingham away last season.

ulven, or at least imposterulven that resides here as they are not the same, was the cause of most of the flame wars on the old MM.

His diatribes were a thing to behold, full of flowery language and immaculate sentence construction, and yet utterly devoid of anything resembling sensible logic.

he managed to get banned for welshing on a bet and also was infamous for his refusal to pay 70p a gamefor commentary as he was in foreign parts

"addenda to this malaise" would have been right up his street

BTW although I showed the first 15 games for Hoddle at an average of 1.4, since then it has dropped to an average of 1.31 per game

Paddy, I don't know whether to be flattered or insulted, I try not to be too provacative, but I think that the analysis of SOA's stats is pretty true, that is, we're like a pond that doesn't see the sun, overcrowded algae, lacking life and a clarity of vision.

I did that for your benefit by the way!smileys/smiley2.gif

Satistically we are not as good as we were last season if you look at the results we got against the teams that we've played so far and look at the results from last season against the same teams. We have not picked up as many points

Leeds away...0-2...points 0.............LS.....1-1...points 1

Cardiff away...2-2...points 1.............LS.....1-1...points 2

QPR home...3-1...points 4...............LS.....2-1...points 5

Millwall home...1-2...points 4............LS.....1-2...points 5

Leicester home...0-0...points 5...........LS.....1-1...points 6

Stoke away...3-1...points 8...........LS....1-2...points 6

Crewe away...4-0...points 11..........LS....4-1...points 9

Burnley home...0-1...points 11.........LS....2-0...points 12

Sheff Utd away...0-1...points 11........LS....3-3...points 13

Derby home...1-1....points 12..........LS...2-0...points 16

preston home...1-1....points 13.........LS...2-2...points 17

Watford away...1-3....points 13..........LS...1-1...points 18

Statistically, teams always have runs of good form, followed by bad form, so you can't make like for like comparisons between parts of seasons - Wolves may just be in a run of bad form which will be followed by a run of good form (or more worryingly, we may actually be in a run of good form and will get worse).

Statistically, Wolves always do better after Christmas than before (or have done in the past 3 seasons).

Statistically, a team's results are influenced by the number of key players that are injured. This is not normally under the control of the manager.

Statistically, a team plays better when the majority of the team were signed by the current manager, not the previous one.

Statistically, a team plays better during the first 2 years of the manager's reign and declines during his 4th year in charge.
