Two good options, but I'd prefer Harper (Reading) or Watson (Palace)to Sidwell and you would probably only need £1m to prise either away..

I'd also look to make an offer for David Vaughan from Crewe (£1m) so we could release Naylor into his true postion as a left winger.

Harper is not a ball winner, He is more of a playmaker. We need steel in the middle of the park. Sidwell would be a major coup but I don't think we would get him, his next move will be to the premiership. Nicholls would be a better shout, More of a realistic chance...

Appreciate that, but I think we need a player who can create/make things happen. I wouldn't buy harper on his own, but he'd be a heck of a foil for Kevin Nicholls/Watson.

We would have no chance with Lee Clark, He is helping with the reser ves/Youths at Newcastle. Hoyte I'm sure would cost a lot more than £400,000, He is playing Prem football with Sunderland.

Brown and Sidwell would form a good engine room and would make a heck of a difference to the side..

but you can't see Hoyte getting a game at Arsenal, ever. He will go to somebody, and it will not be for his true worth, ala Sidwell/Upson. it may aswell be us.

He did ok for Sunderland yesterday, nothing more. If he continues to perform reasonably for them, they'll snap him up. Why would he choose us over them?

Thats where its down to Glenn to sell the club. we could go up this year, Sunderland down, nice new shiney training ground, closer to home, nearer the equator, blah blah blah. with some players it just comes down to whichever manager wants them more.

I'd love to see us sign an up and coming young striker. Jan Huntelaar being my first choice. We could get him for under 5 mill and it'd be one hell of an investment IMO. I doubt we'd get a player like that while we're in this division though.......... maybe next year!!

Slightly tongue in cheek BM, I dare say we will either spend a few quid or snap up a few loans, although not very hopeful we will be organised and professional to attract anyone worth bothering with.

I am awaiting the excuse of Moxey and Hoddle to put yet more blame at the door of Mr Jones (like Moxey was doing over the Miller affair) and put together an argument in favour of a clear out and a strategy for the summer for th big push next season....it will be more elaborate than the few lines I am putting here, with things about players proving their worth, clearing the dead wood etc etc, but we have two men at the helm that are past masters of pushing the blame well away from themselves.

The phrase 'the buck stops here' really never comes anywhere near their radar systems.

In Jan

Michael Brown on loan with a view to a permanent.

Vaughan (Crewe) 750k

Etuhu (looked quality on sat - may face competition from man city and everton though) (2mill?)

Julian bennet (Walsall) (400k?)

At end of Season: (assuming promotion which would be likely if the above transfers are completed)

Paul Scholes (I may be living in a dreamworld though his days at united must be numbered) (Big Contract/ signing on fee)

Cameron Jerome (Cardiff City) (2mill?)

Keane (spurs) (4mill?)

Another quality centre back - maybe off one of the relegated teams or from spurs eg gardner.

Sean davis (spurs)

= guaranteed promotion and premiership survival smileys/smiley2.gif

Don't forget we'll have the brand spanking new training facilty up and
running in January to try and sell the club more. That and Hoddle
should be enough to convince most players who 'might be interested' as
long as we are still around the top 6 and can demonstrate a realistic
chance of going up at the end of the season.

Hopefully Hoddle will have learned from the summer and not set his
sights quite so high this time. We need players who can do the job for
us right now in this division to get us up, not ones that can do a job
now AND when we get up and that we only have a very slim chance of
getting.

ProudWolf
24-10-2005, 16:48
I'd also look to make an offer for David Vaughan from Crewe (£1m) so we could release Naylor into his true postion as a left winger.

Vaughan's a very good left sided midfielder but i've never seen him play full back. He would play ahead of Naylor if we bought him. Naylor's a left back and always will be.

I dont see any of those targets as being completely unreasonable. The scholes one may not be that unlikely after all we'vemanaged to getIrwin and Ince in the recent past.

I dont see why Keane would not want to join us upon promotion if we could prove our ambitions to him.

The january options may be a bit more unlikely due to our uncertain position but they are all possibles if not probables.

So, we've got £5m to spend. who do you want,

TBH I have no idea, I don't watch championship/league 1 or league 2 football. I'm just damn sure I don't want any of it spent on players from the prem. No more comfort zone, no more retirement home for prem failures. Younger hungry players on realistic wages with hugeperformance bonus's all plucked from the football league.

A left back to challenge Naylor. 2 r/b's to challenge each other. a pacey forward, a defensive midfielder and a midfielder who will pick up the ball and drive forward. A wide right sided player would be nice. Whole teams have been assembled for less than £5m so it can be done!

Blackstrobe
24-10-2005, 17:09
Scholes - Fair comment re the wages but in a couple of years time he may be a good shout.

Keane - ditto re the wages.

Davis - im not too sure what he's on at the mohe may be reachable without completely destroying the wage structure but again i dunno.

One of my colleagues is a Stoke season ticket holder, he raves about John Halls who is a FB they got from Arsenal. He is out of contract at the end of the season, and has refused to sign a new contract ( sounds like someone we know)consequently the manager is refusing to play him so he's not in the shop window.
My pal reckons he is potentially Premier league class so he could definately do a job for us, he is the right age (24?) and would only cost circa £100,000 as he will walk at the end of the season. Worth a look Glenn?

But that is the problem with Wolves? Ince is a winner, and even at 38 is better than Olofinjana. Irwin supported the Wolves apparently and was a quality player even at that age and also a winner but has it moved the club forward?

How about Wolves develop the youth and other players who are hungry instead of worrying about 'icings on cakes'. Paul Scholes - no chance he's a premiership playerbut the likes ofMatt Holland and the rest of themwould only come to the Wolves if you stuff a large wad in their account. Totally pointless.About time they learnt.

Blackstrobe
24-10-2005, 17:30
I think you do need to blend youth with experience though and it would be naive to think that you can produce all of your own players in the current climate.

With regards to Paul Scholes i think i read somewhere that he'd only consider leaving Man Utd for Oldham so he may be out the question anyway.

I do agree with what you saying Papa im not sure what its gonna take for the club to see this though. We need a CEO with a bit of foresight for a change. I actually am appreciative of the role Moxey has taken which i think the club needed in the wake of the reduced capacity of SJH in terms of financing the club. Moxey has taken care of our financial strategy.

What we need now is somebody to look after our long term football strategy. Too often we're a club dependant upon immediate success. Maybe we need to implement a five year plan for promotion and premiership stability rather thansingleone season success or bust approach.

The big question is will the fans haveenough patience!?!

id like to see us build a team around the promising group of youngsters (the FA Youth Cup team from last season)we have at the club the same way that ferguson did at Utd. They werent successful straight away!!

The one player we desperately need the most is a leader - somebody who will rally the troopson the pitch and give them a right good bo||ocking when they need one. It doesn't matter what position they play.

Other than that we could do with an entire first team squad and a entire squad of back-up players. Somehow I don't think 5 million's even gonna scratch the surface.
