I'd rather have Heskey than Crouch in the squad. Neither are particularly brilliant but Crouch just makes me ill. Are there any world class target men at the moment though. Maybe Vieri? Koller?

On a serious point, Heskey's got over 40 caps and has scored 4 goals. He isn't going to get any better, and whether Crouch is good enough or not, he deserves a chance over Mr Em.

Crouch does deserve a chance, but when Heskey is on form he is a far more dangerous player IMO ( the prob being he is hardly ever on form ). Though he doesn’t score enough, he does bring others ( Owen ) into it pretty well.

Players like Koller and Janker aren’t really THAT good, they are just lumps that the teams use as targets for long balls, set pieces etc. I presume that’s what Erricson is looking for. Is there anyone else apart from Crouch/Heskey? I was going to make a similar post to this myself. If Sven wants to play a big striker to partner Owen it has to be Heskey. Hes not the most entertaining but, hes the best big striker we have and also if you want to get the best out of Owen,hes the best strike partner hes played with.

shearer has repeatedly said no comebacks so I guess not. Also his start to the season hasn't exactly been electric has it?

Crouch isOK - play him up front with Owen with Rooney playing off, then you get the best of both worlds. Remember that Benitez played with Carew up front at Valencia and he won the title there, I'm pretty sure that he must have SOME idea of what he's doing, even if no-one else quite knows exactly what it is.
Same goes for Sven, how would you like it if someone who was unqualified and unskilled in the job you do constantly talked about it and banded it around the public sphere? Constructive criticism is fine, but we've qualified for the WC with a game to spare, or should we have done that after we played in Chorzow last October? Both of our ex-England managers (GiT and nowGH) would have loved to have had that record.

he has got the team playing negative rubbish with no confidence.
sven's negative tactics cost us knockout games in WC2002 and Euro2004 that we were winning.

Heskey gots some uncalled for stick IMO, similar to what Carl Cort has had from some sections of own fans.... Strange they've gone quieter as each one of his 9 goals have gone in!!!
Backs to the wall's scenario which will happen in the World Cup, Heskey will be streets ahead of Crouch

I think Heskey's OK too and he and Owen link up well together, it was a bit like the Beardsley/Lineker combo under Robson, Lineker got all the glory, but the guile and workrate came from Beardo.
If you look at the great strike partnerships, (inc Mutch and Bull) they complement, not compete, Roo and Owen are too similar in stature and want the glory. Although I rate them both, perhaps there should be an extra dimension in there - Bent is 6' 1, so he can be the Cort/Carlton Cole of the England team.
Sometimes it's easier not to have so many good players then there are not so many dichotomies.

Its the Nathan blake effect.
Back when sturridge was banging them in (2001/2002?) it was Blake who set most of them up, while bagging a fair number himslef.
Yet because sometimes, after having the 1000th ball lumped upfield
towards him and losing out to the massed ranks of 4 defenders, he
looked $$$$$ed off and didnt leap to his feet, he was derided as
lazy.....

Agreed. There is only one man fit to lead the England frontline and thats our very own Carlos Corteros. Heskey is OK but Killer Crouch is average and looks silly.
