Stan Cutlass 12-10-2005, 09:25 Does anyone agree with me that its about time he had a recall to the England side? For the semi-professional squad, yes, I agree. westlyNTR 12-10-2005, 09:26 Just so you could sing along his name to the..."come and shake a leg with me" song? Deutsch Wolf 12-10-2005, 09:26 No. I just love Peter Crouch. paddingtonwolf 12-10-2005, 09:27 *passes DW the 4star and points at the camp fire* westlyNTR 12-10-2005, 09:28 No. I just love Peter Crouch. It would count as the mile high club Bill McCai 12-10-2005, 09:30 I'd rather have Heskey than Crouch in the squad. Neither are particularly brilliant but Crouch just makes me ill. Are there any world class target men at the moment though. Maybe Vieri? Koller? paddingtonwolf 12-10-2005, 09:33 Carew? Deutsch Wolf 12-10-2005, 09:35 On a serious point, Heskey's got over 40 caps and has scored 4 goals. He isn't going to get any better, and whether Crouch is good enough or not, he deserves a chance over Mr Em. Best target man in the world - Adriano. Del Woppio 12-10-2005, 09:36 No. I just love Peter Crouch. to quote essex...."8 games no goals." smileys/smiley36.gifsmileys/smiley2.gif Bill McCai 12-10-2005, 09:40 Crouch does deserve a chance, but when Heskey is on form he is a far more dangerous player IMO ( the prob being he is hardly ever on form ). Though he doesn’t score enough, he does bring others ( Owen ) into it pretty well. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Correct on Adriano, I'd forgot about him. Players like Koller and Janker aren’t really THAT good, they are just lumps that the teams use as targets for long balls, set pieces etc. I presume that’s what Erricson is looking for. Is there anyone else apart from Crouch/Heskey? I suppose if Cort had made it at <?:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Newcastle he may have been an option? If Sven wants to play a big striker to partner Owen it has to be Heskey. Hes not the most entertaining but, hes the best big striker we have and also if you want to get the best out of Owen, hes the best strike partner hes played with. Theres always the option of nocking on Mr Shearer's door for one last time? Deutsch Wolf 12-10-2005, 13:51 Theres always the option of nocking on Mr Shearer's door for one last time? Eight games, one goal. That's all you need to know. paddingtonwolf 12-10-2005, 13:53 shearer has repeatedly said no comebacks so I guess not. Also his start to the season hasn't exactly been electric has it? heskey is absolutely bloody awful. I would rather we played Crouchodinho Axle 12-10-2005, 14:00 Crouch isOK - play him up front with Owen with Rooney playing off, then you get the best of both worlds. Remember that Benitez played with Carew up front at Valencia and he won the title there, I'm pretty sure that he must have SOME idea of what he's doing, even if no-one else quite knows exactly what it is. Same goes for Sven, how would you like it if someone who was unqualified and unskilled in the job you do constantly talked about it and banded it around the public sphere? Constructive criticism is fine, but we've qualified for the WC with a game to spare, or should we have done that after we played in Chorzow last October? Both of our ex-England managers (GiT and nowGH) would have loved to have had that record. I think they're paid money to manage a team and produce results, Sven's done that, don't you agree? We can't all be Brazil 70. Visage Wolf 12-10-2005, 14:05 Crouch isOK - play him up front with Owen with Rooney playing off, then you get the best of both worlds. Thats all well and good, but i've heard he hasnt scored in 8 games. paddingtonwolf 12-10-2005, 14:07 sven has got us qualified out of the easiest group in Christendom. he has got the team playing negative rubbish with no confidence. sven's negative tactics cost us knockout games in WC2002 and Euro2004 that we were winning. sven doesn't know his best formation with 9 months to go to kick off. sven is mince Colin Swedewolf 12-10-2005, 14:12 heskey is absolutely bloody awful. In a word, YES! Heskey gots some uncalled for stick IMO, similar to what Carl Cort has had from some sections of own fans.... Strange they've gone quieter as each one of his 9 goals have gone in!!! Backs to the wall's scenario which will happen in the World Cup, Heskey will be streets ahead of Crouch Edited by: In Hod We Trust paddingtonwolf 12-10-2005, 14:14 shhhhhh - don't let logic get in the way of an unreasoned argument scottishwolf II 12-10-2005, 14:14 england got much better results and looked a better team with heskey in the side........discuss i think it may have been down to the fact that they felt they were playing with 10 men, so worked extra hard Axle 12-10-2005, 14:22 Not sure if you're being ironic or not, but if you look at it from the perspective of personnel, wegot better resultswith James in goal. In fact, when Seaman was playing we were world class. Doesn't he want to coach the first team now? Bring him backASAP!! scottishwolf II 12-10-2005, 14:24 just a discussion point. everyone slags him all the time, but england looked a better side with him oddly. just wondering if anyone else thinks so/has any understanding of why?? In Hod We Trust 12-10-2005, 14:25 Heskey for me aint scared of the dirty work, gets himself in there where others quake... Axle 12-10-2005, 14:32 I think Heskey's OK too and he and Owen link up well together, it was a bit like the Beardsley/Lineker combo under Robson, Lineker got all the glory, but the guile and workrate came from Beardo. If you look at the great strike partnerships, (inc Mutch and Bull) they complement, not compete, Roo and Owen are too similar in stature and want the glory. Although I rate them both, perhaps there should be an extra dimension in there - Bent is 6' 1, so he can be the Cort/Carlton Cole of the England team. Sometimes it's easier not to have so many good players then there are not so many dichotomies. paddingtonwolf 12-10-2005, 14:33 nice word Axle- I'm off to find my dictionary Del Woppio 12-10-2005, 14:34 word of the day toilet paper, or reading Deutsch's greatest post?
