look up to the most as a youngster?

When i was younger i use to look up to players like Paul Gascoigne,
Roberto Baggio and Eric Cantona. I realise now that Gazza and Cantona
are both a complete mess now and a disgrace to there legacy's as
footballers.

Off the top of my head the only footballer who you can say that is still a player worth looking up to is Alan Shearer.

When I first started it was Phil Parkes....well everyone looked up to him, he was 6' 4" smileys/smiley2.gif, Derek Dougan was my first hero, followed by Waggy, Knowles, Richards, Hibbitt, Munro, then I lost a lot of respect for players until Bully. As for those who were not Wolves players....couldn't give a toss for any of them.

i look up to peter crouch and he looks down on me, i know my place

hate to say it but bryan robson was a great player, andy gray a great diving headerer, but i always held players covered in blood as heroes, it meant they played with passion and werent afraid to get stuck in http://www.wanadoo.co.uk/images/editorial/generalarticle/sport/football/vote/engshirt1998_feb05_emp_350.jpg

Not wishing to disillusion you or diminish the achievements of a fine player, but I remember seeing JR sent off in a home game against the Villa

Players I admired as a kid? So many of the Wolves side in the late 50's to choose from. Later the Doog and, for a non-Wolf, Denis Law. Both players with charisma.

You are correct....absolute appalling decision.

Derek Parkin only picked up a handful of bookings in his 500 odd appearances. So, it's between JR and Squeak for me.

I`m afraid I was dissillusioned at a very early age. The secondary modern I went to in the early 60`s was very close to BBC studios, there was a program on monday evenings (5-00pmI think) different sport every week, about coaching and how to be a better player. We had a good footy team and they decided to use us for the program, we were told that the England coaches would be educating us on the finer arts of footy. In those days there wasn`t a manager but a selection committee, the main coach was a certain Walter Winterbottom, a very pleasant man ( the very reason why a certain Mr Clough never got the job many years later ) but whether I had the wrong attitude as othersto, I don`t know, but he seemed to spout total coilles. Unfortunately I couldn`t take professional footballers seriously after that experience. What dizzy heights I might have achieved, "Que Sera"

Peter Knowles. On the wider front I thought the Law Man was a superb

I once went to watch a game at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea v Leeds and
Currie played for Leeds, at one point Currie was hemmed in on the touch
by three Chelsea players. He jinked one way then another and emerged
through the Chelsea players two of whom were now sitting on their back
sides, he turned and bowed to the crowd before continuing on his way.
Great player on his day. Of cause the old saying was if Stan Bowles
could pass the bookies as well as he passed the ball he would have been
a lot better of.
