View Full Version : Oakes homework
Slight critism of Oakes or Hoddle perhaps but after watching Soccer AM on Saturday morning I noticed that Burnley had done this set piece routine mid week and it worked.
Surely if Oakes/Hoddle had done their homework they would of been prepared for this type of freekick. Granted it was taken well, but the wall left a lot to be desired!
Thoughts?

My thought is thatI have to agree with you because what you say highlights things exactly.
Bloke in front of me was screaming to get a man on the post as it was obvious he was going round the wall.
Have to ask, wtf was Cort doing if you watch the replay?

The wall was badly positioned - so yes Oakes doesneed to look and learn from it.

FW, I'd prefer our midfield players learnt where the goal was.

Carl was too busy checking on the specs of the cars in the car park to take notes on set piece routines
For anyone who has downloaded the Burnley goal watch it again and tell me what Carl Cort is doing?

Yammer, I think you're getting mixed up between Ricketts and Cort.

there were 4 burnley players around the ball, when they broke one ran to the right this is where cort was going, to mark him. the wall was positioned wrong and perhaps the player shoving his $$$$ into the ref(cameron???) should have been blocking too

Just watched it again, you are correct.

If you watch it again though he was just stood there exactly the same distance away from them as the wall. Surely he could have broke from the wall if need be rather than just being wasted in the position he was.

Burnley had another setpiece routine that nearly caught us out. Micah Hyde strolled over to speak to cotterill and grab a Powerade just as Burnley were about to take a corner. No one followed him, then all of a sudden Hyde chucked the bottle and ran through, the corner was passed straight to him where he managed to get a shot in which was blocked.
They had very good set piece routines.Edited by: Wombourne Wolf

well spotted wombourne,( I was screaming for someone to watch Hyde but I`m just another prat in the NB so what do we know ) they used the same routine several times last year, this year only the once.
It`s not cameron with his Wenger in the refs face ( might be Miller ), Cameron is to the left of the wall. The No 4 who later did all the play acting was blocking Cameron and then moved away, the ref didbugger all.
