On the train up to Stafford on Saturday, we were chatting away about what makes a good awap trip... who you go with, the pubs when you get there, the ground and naturally the result?

This got me thinking about the venues I like going to and I must say my favourites in recent years have been:

Newcastle (Amazing ground, excllent nightlife and smack bang in the centre)

Leeds (Cheap train, good acoustics at the ground and loads of pubs to choose from)

Forest (Hooters and we normally score at least two goals)

Crewe (Decent drinking trip and usually three points)

Liverpool (Easy to get to, great traditional grounds and easy women)

Just wondering who the rest of you would choose?

Norwich - Always a great weekend away with the lads at Yarmouth

Newcastle - Great Stadium, great nightlife and stayed in the same hotel as the team when in the prem.

Villa - alway a great atmosphere generated by the gold n black army.

Barnsley was always good fun. My first away game was when we took about 8,000 near the end of the season and we needed to win to book our place in the play-offs.

It was boiling hot and a great atmosphere, just the result that spoilt it. I can also remember seeing Barnsley come round the corner looking for a 'knock', only to be met by about 500 Wolves who promptly chased them into nearby gardens.smileys/smiley4.gif

Rochdale.

Cheap as chips, views over the moors, cobbled streets, and you could take a $$$$$ and watch the match at the same time.

Ayresome Park used to be a bloody nightmare, hated the placesmileys/smiley11.gif, only good memory was the 6th rd cup match when Andy Gray scored.

I like going to Derby, Leicester and Forest, plenty of seats and we always give a good account of ourselves, and back the lads with loud singing. smileys/smiley32.gif

Only 16/14/40 respectively miles from home as well, come to think of it.

Stoke is pne of my favourites. Only up the road, good Wolves following and generally a good weekend.

Both Manchester and Liverpool clubs are also favourites of mine and you can't beat a trip to the capital.

Morning Yammer, I forgot about the capital and the sophistication of the Flying Scotsman at Kings Cross. Whilst Leicester Square is also a good laugh, we found Upper Street to be a quality stretch of bars... even met one of the blokes out of Dream Team, who we bought a pint because he couldn't afford another drink.

By the way, how was Hanley duck?

Took great pleasure in telling the clayhead lads who were mates with my Stoke lass that Lee Naylor will never do that again in his life! smileys/smiley36.gifWas pushing my luck a bit when i also enquired where Delilah had gone?

I went down by train last year for the first time and drank around London Bridge, which was a good laugh and pretty safesmileys/smiley5.gif

Got taxi to the ground and then a police escort all the way back to the train station and straight over to Haymarket for a few cheeky ones.

One of our better days out last year!

For me there are a few away destinations I really enjoy but for differing reasons but if push come to shove I'd have to go for Ipswich away.

It's only just half hour away so I travel by train and it's one of the few games I can have a few beers. Also travel to the game with both Wolves and Ipswich supporting mates and we have a damn good laugh with banter being the order of the day from when we first meet to when we part company.

There usually a decent Wolves following turn up and the corner we are given allows for a fair bit of noise soa good day all round for me and more so if we win.smileys/smiley1.gif

The Riverside isnt much better, coming out of there in the prem season was a bit of a 'watch your back' time.

Tell me about it, we got off the train about half one and walked straight into the Gilzean Arms. Cracking boozer, but full of their likely lads, with Meet the Frontline books for sale over the bar.

There must have been a good hundred nutters in there when all of a sudden the pub emptied. We went to go and have a look and about 200 Wolves had got off the train - apparently it was a mark of respect for Fingles, who had died recently.

After the match, we avoided the escort for the 'firm', but was still pelted by bricks and bottles off the bridge.

In a funny sort of way, I quite enjoyed it.

Hawthornes is allways a fun place to be with nice polite locals making you feel very welcome.

I would seriously have to say Newcastle the game in the prem where they were supposedly the best fans in the world yet it was us in the corner that made the most noise throughout.

Crewe is definately one of my favourites, sound boozers near by and blinding chippy and programme shop by the ground...

Another big fav of mine is Ipswich, 90% of my family are from Suffolk so its always good to catch up and enjoy a few beers in town.

Will be making the trip December for the weekend so looking forward to it

Got to agree there. My first time in the town and it's a major dump, a kind of Blakenhall x 10.

Great fry up in the pub by the station mind, although the roof was severly leaking in the hotel further down.

All in all, I can only think of Gillingham has being worse!

I always find the best ingredients for a classic away day are train, plenty of cans of carlsberg export, boozer in away town full of Wolves fans, jukebox, traditional ground (none of these $$$$$ new grounds built miles out of town) and Wolves victory.

I always find that the likes of Crewe and Stockport have most of these ingredients and make for classic away days.

Is that the day we WON? Deano scored in the 1-0 win, on a rare occasion, a mighty fine memory that one. Mind you I thought that was well after Christmas?

There was a night game when there was a gale force wind that strong they were opening the swing doors at McDonalds! That was crap and 0-0 I think. Can't remember the years, definitely the dark days though.

Crewe- Good supporters, lots of local pubs, good parking, well organised staff and a team that tries to play attractive football. (only downside is they never have any pies left, even with Wrights' Pies factory half a mile from the ground).

Grimsby - Great fish and chips and some of the funniest chants. Downside - strong smell of iffy cod on a hot day.

Vale - tea only 30p, good beer in the ground and fans who are more resigned to misery than us.

My favourites have been Port Vale, Norwich and

Oldham - One of my mates, mate came close to getting splattered by a bus outside McDonalds after we all ran across the road and he stood there like an idiot, he soon shifted when the bus pulled up and the driver got out to kick off. I remember the ground was on top of a big hill. That game was when one of their fans threw the ball back to the pitch then did a w!$*er sign to the Wolves following, which proceeded with around 200 blokes all running down the stand to get at him smileys/smiley36.gif
