"For the second consecutive summer, the 22-year-old has been training at a Health Spa in Hertfordshire with John Goodman, the former Millwall and Wimbledon player, and put his performances last season down to his summer work."

"Ebanks-Blake has been shaping for the new campaign at a health spa in Hertfordshire with the help of former Wolves striker Don Goodman, now a personal trainer.
“Last year it gave me a real boost at the start of the season and if it can have the same influence again it will provide me with a real kickstart, so for me, it’s a no-brainer,” he added.
“Don Goodman has helped me all the way through and I had a good year and it’s a case of keeping it up.”"

It's pathetic, all they had to do was watch SSN last night and they could have seen it as well. I mean John Goodman and Don Goodman were hardly separated at birth were they?

He probably thought it was John Goodman from the flintstones movie.

The only credible stuff I find on their site, I tend to have already read on the official website anyway. Very lazy journalism, the articles author should be sacked.
It's not all their fault it's gone to the dogs, time was I would get home and the first thing I'd do is turn to the back page for the Wolves news, now I can get it at work, mostly at 1st hand or any rumours appear on here.
It's dying a slow death, like most regional papers probably.

Most of the Wolves news in the E and S these days is either directly lifted from the club's website or followed up from stories in the nationals. They seem to be incapable of generating their own stories anymore - and any that they do are riddled with errors.
Remember when you could rely on the back page for good, accurate exclusives from our local paper. Those were the days.
By the way, in the interests of accuracy, it is Jon (no 'h') Goodman (ex Millwall and Wimbledon)
"Jon Goodman (born 2 June (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_2)1971 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1971) in Walthamstow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walthamstow), England (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England)) is a former professional footballer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_%28soccer%29), and was the Sports Scientist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_science) at Reading Football Club (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reading_F.C.) before leaving to concentrate on his consultancy business."

If they sack the culrpit there will be even fewer people on the sports desk. Maybe Carl Chinn and Philip Solomon can take over unless Solomon's psychic column has been cancelled due to unforseen circumstances.
In no way will I defend the E&S but Don Goodman is also a personal trainer on the local circuit. Easy sloppy mistake to make.

Gallant effort BUT Don, as you say, is a personal trainer on the local circuit and the SEB story referred to a health spa in Hertfordshire. E&S ought to know Don is based at Newbridge teniis and squash club - he was an E&S columnist after all.

Does anyone else get angry when trying to catch up on news on the E&S website when most stories are just a few lines followed by "Full story in tonight's Express & Star".
What if you can't get an E&S where you happen to be? What if you prefer to get your info via the net, anyway?
Surely you either do a website properly - or don't bother?

Why should a paper give all of it's stories away during the day when it's buisness is to sell an evening paper.

Disagree. The newspaper arm of their organisation is in the business of selling evening papers. The website arm is in the business of making it a damn good website. Surely if you're doing a website you want to make people log on to it? That's how you get advertisements on it. Newspaper circulations are falling. Websites are definitely the future. Do the E&S really think people are going to read two or three paragraphs on the website and then dash out to get the paper? National newspapers don't seem to worry about giving the full version of stories.

National newspapers have massive circulations so they can maybe get away with it. Can the E and S afford to see it's readership drop 10% because they give away all thier stories on line?
as the best selling regional newspaper, I'd hazard a guess they know what they're doing.

Still disagree. Falling circulations is a generation thing. Youngsters - and old farts like me - now prefer to go on line to get their news. Websites are the future, you have to try to make yours as good as everybody else's.
E&S are out of step if theythink best way to use their site is a teaser to get people to buy the paper.
Hey, don't tar all us youngsters (or all you old farts) with the same brush. Nothing yet quite compares to a morning paper.

They're not. They have a fundamentally sound business model. They can't be compared to a national. I don't think it makes any sense at all for a local paper to give all its content away on its website.
Nothing yet quite compares to a morning paper
I agree.
Even though the content is free on the web nowadays, I still walk down the shop on the weekends or pop out on my lunch hour to grab a paper.
As for the E&S, I don't mind it at all. I don't particlularly buy it for the sports stories, more the local news, classifieds etc.

Don't get me wrong, I love newspapers but we newspaper readers are definitely diminishing I know my kids and their pals rarely pick a paper up. The evidence, sadly, is clear - papers are fighting to survive. Websites are the future, that's why I think the E&S should give it their best shot.
I used to love reading the Excess and Scar years ago, but now it's just so poor it's not worth it.
Rhodes is the only thing worth reading, the rest appears to be produced (I'll shy away from 'written') by the work experience person (This is the paper that gave Boris Johnson his first taste of Journalism).

As has been mentioned on here previously, most of the so-called stories on Wolves in the E and S these days are either culled from the club website or follow-ups to national tales, notably Moxey denying rumours that have appeared that same morning.
Yes, the same Moxey who once denied that Paul Ince was about to sign for Wolves.
The paper is still worth getting occasionally, though, to have a laugh at all the errors.

There is a great column that goes in the entertainments section every Friday. It's written by somebody with the unlikely name of Jack Stain. It details all the acts due on at local clubs and virtually every one is described as "brilliant" and more often than not each entry ends with the words "don't miss". With most of the turns appearing on the same night I don't know how you're supposed not to miss about a dozen of them.
This column is so bad it's brilliant. Don't miss.

On today's E&S website:
A quick look around the national scene to see what is happening in the world of sport: -
Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs has been awarded an honorary degree for his contribution to sport and charitable causes by the University of Salford.
Greek striker Georgios Samaras has signed a three-year contract with Scottish champions Celtic.
Juventus have called off their long-running pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso - after signing Denmark’s Christian Poulsen from Sevilla.
Manchester City have lost out to AC Milan in the race to sign Barcelona playmaker Ronaldinho.
Luton have lost their appeal against a 10-point penalty for financial irregularities- sowill begin life in League Two on minus 30 points.
So this is the E&S definition of the world of sport - no cricket, no golf, no tennis, no rugby, no Formula 1, no athletics.
Say no more.

Because Wolves are on tour in Scotland we are now being treated to the 'McNash Diaries' in the EandS. Hardly original and a bit demeaning to our friends the Scots. If the trip was to Ireland would it be the O'Nash Diaries? Or to Wales - the Nash Dai Rees? Or to Tennessee - the Nashville Diaries?
Perhaps if he falls in a lake in Scotland we'll get an exclusive picture of the Loch Nash Monster. Or if he finds out where you have to phone to buy an old car in Scotland we'll get an article headed Dial-a-crock Dundee.

I have some sympathy with newspaper reporters these days. Its harder to get close to players. Every interview is done through a press officer and reporters are told exactly when and where.
Also, clubs do release news first through their own websites/V chanels. They make money from subscribers who are sad enough to to want to know about their clubs 2 minutes before the general pulic. Therefore journalists do often just pick things up from official websites/TV chanels and take it from there.
I think its safe to say that when a newspaper has an exclusive (particilarly about transfers) it has been deliberately leaked by an agent.
However, there is no excuse for inaccurate reporting when the facts are already out there and its just been copied wrong.
Tettenhallian
03-08-2008, 21:37
If you go to the Mail on Line you will see a picture of Paul Ince has now been substituted for the original one of Flitcroft and Andrews BUT they have left in a comment that rightly points out the original error. That just makes the sender look stupid. They should delete the comment.
What really ****** me off, though, is the way the report is written from the Blackburn viewpoint as if the only point of interest is Sant Cruz getting a knock. And to dismiss Jarvis's goal as "a cool finish" hardly does it justice.

Wolves Women FC chairman Jenny Wilkes believes having access to the new facilities at the Wellington Road Campus mean the club would have all the training facilities they need to promote and develop girls’ and women’s football throughout the city.
He said: “We are hoping to have one of the biggest and the best women’s football clubs in the country."
