We're going to be in a VERY good position for next year... The team will be stronger and more determined, and more experienced.

Yes we could have finished higher and should of. Were we ready to go up this season? Not really.

Next season we will hopefully be able to field a FULLY FIT team, i would say today was the only game we possibly could have done that.

We will be much stronger next year.

Yes they will. Im waiting to see how long the first MM out thread starts...

All i can say is that will get us nowhere. He has built the team, he knows the way forward. Getting rid will get away from where we are heading. MM has built a very good, strong, young team. He needs to still be in charge.

We haven't been good enough over the season, that's all there is to it. It's only because it's been such an inconsistent Championship this season that we could have scraped into the playoffs! McCarthy needs to learn some lessons for next season else we will do little else but continue as a mediocre hoofball championship also-ran team.

GoldenHorseshoe
04-05-2008, 16:24
Johnybig, unfortunately, the team is not very good and not strong, otherwise we would not be in the current position.
You could argue that they have potential, but that's all.

Moping?

How long is it before a "YOUNG AND HUNGRY!!!!!" team deliver the goods? I could understand the "build on it" rhetoric after the play-offs last year - I was even $$$$ing stupid enough to believe in it until about November. Finishing out of the play-offs after such investment warrants no such false hope this year.

Agree with the bit I've put in bold. The rest is open for debate. A lot depends on who we buy/sell in the close season.

As for being able to field a fully fit squad, then that's open to the elements. This league will be stronger this year. Swansea and Forest coming up and possible Reading, Birmingham or Fulham coming down will ensure it will be tight. Any team keeping a fully fit squad will fancy their chances. From this league, we can't ignore QPR and their money men, the losers in the play offs will be there again while Sheff Utd without Robson will be stronger. The list can go on and on.

Mick's job now is to ensure that lessons have been learned and he needs to identify areas which have seen us lose out this year. We need a solid defence, some experience and utilise this to free the likes of Kightly and Jarvis to create opportunities for SEB and a.n. other to put away.

He's still got a big job to do IMHO as this team stands we need quite a bit of tuning.

If Miller ahdnt had scored the goal in injury time against us for Ipswich it wouldnt matter.

Getting into the PO, so what really? Were we going to make it?

Palace are the only team who will do anything in there IMO.

utter $$$$$$$$ i am afraid.

we have two or three class players and the rest is pure dross, and we will lose at least one of the good ones.

all of the ex-sunderland contingent have to be released tonight

fully fit does not come into it, it is the manager job to have cover for injuries.

our strategy is based on ex-sunderland rubbish who were squad players there and who have been found out.

optimistic? this as bad as the worst times under taylor, lee, mcghee or hoddle.

we have nothing whatever to be optimistic about Until mick, jez and clipboard are just a bad memory.

we need a clean sweep and we need to instill a spirit of vision and confidence in place of our current startled rabbit loser mentality…

if jez thinks this is acceptable his position is untenable, either mick goes or they both have to!

Putting all that has happened this season to one side and looking at this on the facts.

Should a squad with Hennessey Ebanks Blake and Eastwood be good enough to make the top six ? Discuss.

Cannot count Kightly cos he got injured.

Every single year the league "will be a lot stronger". 12-months ago it was "Charlton, Watford and Sheffield United will be big dangers", but that didn't transpire. How often do teams that come down go straight up? Not that often judging by the last 5-6 years. How often do teams come up and go straight up again? Even less. Derby are a disgrace at the moment and Reading are shot - I don't see anything to fear from those 2, given that they're going to lose a lot of their best players.

johnybig32
04-05-2008, 16:38
Reading will lose any player worth their weight...Hunt, Doyle, Kitson, Lita...at Least...

Maybe we could get Harper from them?? New Challenge?

Derby are awful and i think will struggle to adapt to the league.

Yes, every team gets stronger...No reason why we cant!

Can we have a clear-out on this Board as well, starting with you?

Leicester, Coventry, Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday all followed your 'way forward' and look where it got them?

The last minute penalty against Watford in the 1st game of the season, has come back to haunt us.

Although weve been Average this season, we were only 9 points off automatic. I'm pretty optimistic about this coming season, 2 or 3 quality signing, should see us right.

You know, we finished right where we deserved to finish. However, if McCarthy hadn't spent the first 6 months of the season pratting around with 12 different strike partnerships, we might actually have scored the 2 goals more along the way that would have made the difference. There is one reason and one reason alone why we haven't been good enough this year- Mick McCarthy.

SsgWolf

unfortunately for you, no.

you are going to be hearing a lot more of the mick out campaign now that abject failure has been confirmed.

especially if if keeps ANY of his ex-sunderland kronies at the club for next season. they must all go. every single talentless one of them.

Of course next season will be better.

Everyone in the first choice side will be so much older and so much more experienced.Over the summer everyone in the squad will have grown by at least 6"(any that don't will be released)and have bodies that resemble the Hulk on a bad day.The players will no longer be timid or weak and games will no longer be boys v men.
Also over the summer,MM will be bringing players to the club and he may even play one or two of them.He may even look beyond the Sunderland released list(incidentially which position were Sunderland in this time last season?).
Anyone performing well in the Reserves will be given a first team opportunity(not just 2 minutes at the end of a Carling cup game)as will anyone doing well after going out on loan.MM will no longer slag-off individuals to the media nor make trite, vacuous claims such as not looking at the league table etc.He will also admit that sometimes he makes mistakes over team selection/tactics.The management will not deride/patronise the fans and will admit that their views,no matter how critical, come from the heart and thus have worth.

The Coaching and Medical teams will also be overhauled over the summer so that only people who are competent in their respective fields will be employed by the club.

What a brave new world.
I can't wait.
Roll on the first pre-season defeat against Telford or Stafford.

7th isn't good enough and even though today was the first game we had our strongest team out we still should have made the play-off's over the course of the season with out squad and backing.
This can't be denied but the players have given their all and many of them will be better players for this years experience and many of them will improve, not all but many.
MM has to take unltimate responsibility for our lack of progress and tactical/game plan approach errors.

BUT if Morgan stand by him then im afraid as Wolves fans we have a duty to back him too. Like it or not bacause you can't start a season with half the crowd willng his sacking.

Thats football its about opinions, and if Morgan backs him he is very wrong as far as I am concerned. How long do you think he would last with another bad start..

Then pre season will of been blown and we are chasing the play-offs with a new manager with somebody else's cast off's. The time to act is now.

"Hes said exactly what ive said...just in more words..."

johnybig,do you not recognise a parody of the inane garbage you post?

If MM stays next season will not be a new dawn.It will be more of the same with the likelihood of an even more abject failure.
What reasons can you have for thinking the team will be stronger next season?
Is MM intending to strengthen the DEF and MF?Is he going to find someone with the character to be an on-the-pitch leader?
The team will be "more determined" You mean they were'nt this season? Why not? Is'nt it MM's responsibility to ensure that everyone in the team is motivated to perform to their utmost capability every week? If,as you suggest, some of the regular players were adopting a lackadaisical attitude, why was MM selecting them?

"......we will hopefully be able to field a fully fit team...."
I admit I'm having trouble following this train of thought.
Do you mean that throughout this season MM has been putting out sides where all or the majority of players are carrying injuries? Surely not.Though such a possibility would go a long way to explaining the all too frequent mediocre performances.
Or did you mean that Sunday was the first time this season that MM has had the opportunity to select his first choice XI? If this was your intention, perhaps you ought to be reminded that this "first choice"team, knowing that we needed to win convincingly to have any chance of reaching the P/Os,won 1-0 with a goal in the 87th minute, having missed chance after chance throughout the game.

So....what other than mindless, unthinking optimism, could make you think that next season will be any different to this season?
