...by the comments of our players after our defeat to The $$$$. First half we competed but created little where as second half we were $$$$e and deserved to lose by more than one.

Yet Hennessy says it was the best we've played this season and Keogh says we were unlucky and MM of course has his usual bull$$$$! Do these players genuinely think they were unlucky or are they playing the media game...?

All to do with trying to remain positive. Start bleating and their heads will go and our season is over at 4.55 on Saturday. Remain up beat and at least when our season is over at 4.55 on Saturday they did it with a positive outlook...........

Yeah but they must know within themselves they were useless. If they believe they're own lie's then we truely are in trouble!

Hopefully Breen has played the honest game with them...

Lies?

Do you know anything about football?

What would you rather them do? Go into their shells, consider themseves useless and lose all their confidence at a pivotal moment in the season?

I would rather them say "we weren't good enough on Tuesday and know we need to improve and will do our best to do that etc..."

not...

"we were dead unlucky" and "it was the best we played this season, there wasn't much difference between the teams"

Half of solving a problem, is admiting you have one...

they need to pick themselves up for saturday which is now do or die.
i think deep down they know they were beaten by the better team... also, i think we need to keep this in mind when throwing comments around like "the players were utterly useless" - they weren't. They were beaten by the better team.

I have to say you've got a point. No point burying your head in the sand and not giving yourself a chance of overcoming your weaknesses.

Nothing wrong with admitting they were beaten by a team that applied themselves better on the night, and that they realise they CAN play better and WILL play better.

I also have the view that if we played a 5 man midfield we would of at least got a point against the $$$$. In a dream world it would be nice for Mick to say that he got his tactics wrong, then I might trust him a bit more... ;)

That'd just give us one less man to aim for and one more to avoid when hoofing the ball over the midfield :D

Boy you would be so confused if Mourinho was our manager.

Sometimes managers say things for pyschological reasons. Mourinho diverting media attention to himself rather than the players to shelter them, not admitting his team were ever outplayed to keep up confidence, Keegan constantly praising Owen saying he shoud play for England as he knows that confidence is important and England motivates him most.

Hindsight is wonderful thing, playing 5 in midfield might well have helped but not if the players had played with so much fear. I guess Micks just another game comments didn't have the effect he wanted.

We've played far far worse than we did on Tuesday this season!!

Are you thinking a 4-2-4 then for Saturday? Kightly and Jarvis to make up the 2 man midfield? ;)

spot on.

it's not the players' fault, it's the gameplan.

Whilst i agree with the sentiments about albion being better than us on the night i'm giving the benefit of the doubt to the players and the manager for making upbeat comments as there is still a chance we might be playing the albion again in a few weeks time in the play offs-we'd be going into the games mentally beaten before we start.

On the other hand if they truly believe that we were unlucky then we are in trouble-it reminds me of the Hoddle era where each week he'd tell the world how well we'd played when in fact we played safe, passionless football with few chances created.

End of the season is the time for taking stock - not now.
