As may will have sussed on here, I was not convinced about Hoddle as manager. First because he had turned us down once (Moxey had said he approached his agent and was not interested), second because it was originally a short term solution, third because his style of management has never seemed that suited to the division we are in, but mainly because I do not think he is a winner....someone who will go all out to win, whatever it takes.
There are a few managers who can cross the divide between Championship and the PL, but so many show ability at a higher level and then cannot deal with the more battling, scrappy game in our, and lower, division. There are also those who cannot move the other way. I believe DJ was one of those, great at lower level, out of his depth in the PL, Mick McCarthy is a prime example currently....I do not believe he has won a game in 16 attempts with Sunderland...I may be wrong, but it may be he has NEVER won a PL game as manager.
Those that do come from lower down to the Pl are usually winning managers, George Graham when at Millwall, Brian Clough, Shankly at Liverpool, Curbishley, even the likes of George Burley could build winning teams in the lower reaches. All pretty tough characters and built fire (as well as skill) in their teams.
I believe this is what Hoddle really lacks...we have no fire to turn a team of prancers into a team of fighters. The lacklustre performances I have witnessed at Molineux since he arrived have been far too many. Though, of course, I forgot according the hierachy at Molineux it is the supporters that create the lacklustre atmosphere. Soon they will not need to worry, the rate the crowd is dropping (another 12% on the same fixture last season) and the directors box should be the fullest part of the ground so they can start the singing.smileys/smiley6.gif
