Only seen this discussed on the ridiculous David Wheater thread and now it has been finalised wondered what the opinion was on the final 23?

GK: James, Robinson, Green

DF: Johnson, Brown, A. Cole, Bridge, Terry, Ferdinand, Woodgate, Lescott

MF: Beckham, Bentley, J. Cole, Downing, Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Hargreaves

ST: Rooney, Owen, Crouch, Walcott

--

A few suprises overall. No arguements with the 8 defenders good to see Lescott keep his place. Matt Upson may feel hard done by, but he's not the only one who had an impact last game and has been overlooked. No place for either Jenas or Wright-Phillips after they got the goals that beat Switzerland. Ashley Young misses out in favour of Downing which is probably fair based on current form. Disappointed that Defoe hasn't been included but I suppose having Walcott you have the option to play him wide.

Upson is injured so withdrew from the squad. Otherwise I agree with most of it.

What do people think the team will be? I assume it will be a 4-3-3 as in the last game.

could be something like:

............................James
Johnson......Ferdinand......Terry(c)........A.Cole
...........Gerrard....Hargreaves....Lampard
Bentley/Beckham......Rooney..................J.Cole

subs: GK, Brown, Lescott, Bentley/Beckham, Walcott, Owen, Crouch

Although I'd like to see someone like Walcott wide in the three up top to add some pace to get in behind. I think Beckham and Bentley would be more suited to the midfield three, passing and crossing from deeper. Can they displace Lampard or Gerrard though?

More to do with the formation and how they can operate in it. Walcott would be a lot more of a threat wider than Defoe would. And Defoe is not going to play on his own upfront in a 4-3-3, he's not that kind of striker. One of Defoe and Owen were definately going to make way and also Agbonlahor lost out to Walcott.

Personnally I'd like to see:

---------Crouch----Rooney---------

J. Cole---Gerrard--Hargreaves--Bentley

Bridge---Woodgate--Ferdinand--Brown

---------------James---------------

If we want a player operating out wide I'd prefer Agbonlahor to Walcott.

Jamboon, with that Capello would go:

J.Cole---------Crouch---------Rooney
----Gerrard--Hargreaves--Bentley
Bridge---Woodgate--Ferdinand--Brown
---------------James---------------

looks good to me but not sure he'll start with Crouch. Probably use him off the bench Kevin Kyle style!

that one's down to Capello and he obviosuly thinks Walcott has more to offer. I know Agbonlahor isnt playing very well at the moment either so that probably came into it.

I still cant figure out, apart from sentiment, Why Beckham is in ahead of some of the players mentioned above...

Rumour is 4-2-3-1 formation with Rooney on his own so I reckon he'll go

James
Brown Terry Ferdinand A Cole
Hargreaves Barry
Bentley Gerrard J Cole
Rooney

Ferdinand has been named captain for this game.

Pretty much agree but I'd prefer Glenn Johnson to Brown.

Agreed. Dunno why he picked him for the Swiss game but he seems to be impressing Fab at the moment.

Why Is Walcott playing? He rarely plays for his club and he's not proven In the premiership.

Sky spointed out on Sunday that Wes Brown has made more appearances than any other United player this season. Whilst I have been impressed with Johnson's form lately I think Brown is the best player for the position at the moment.

I'd prefer Neill Collins to Brown.

So far Fabio doesn't seem to be introducing a revolution of the kind some anticipated, the starting line up will look very much like a McLaren side.

I know we have injuries, but I'd prefer him to be bold, look to the future and end some of the primadona 'golden generation's' international careers. Fully fit a side something like this would have been a step change forward:
.....................Hart
Richards.....Ferdinand....King......Lescott
SWP.........Gerrard.....Hargreaves....Cole
..............Rooney.....Agbonlahor

with players like: Walcott, Bentley, Dawson, Upson, Barry, Woodgate making up the squad places

players like Lampard, Terry, Neville, A Cole, Carrick, Robinson etc could never pull on the shirt again as far as I'm concerned

players like Owen and Beckham are good to have around the squad but their use should gradually be phased out

radical I know, but that's how let down I feel by our current crop of 'world class' players

You must feel incredibly let down if you want Dawson in the side.

i doubt the personel would change much for any england manager, we dont really have a glut of world class players do we? i think capello will try different tactics more than mcclown or even sven would, he appears to be trying to find that magic formation that will suit us down to the ground where we can compete with the best, pace sint everything at international level, ability to beat a man or think quick are essential.

I do. But on reflection, that's a fair point mate, maybe a rant too far on my part :D
