Tonight sees Wolves entertain Southampton in the battle of the ‘Hamptons’ in a crucial Championship clash between two sides who have differing ambitions with the final stretch of the season in sight.
Southampton or ‘the Saints’ as they are affectionately known have endured a particularly disappointing season to date. They currently lie in 19th position, just four points from the relegation trapdoor having played more games than many of the sides around them. Their recent record is particularly poor, without a win in eight Championship games and their last victory on their travels at Leicester in December.
Southampton manager, lego haired Nigel Pearson, has a high quality squad at his disposal. One of his first acquisitions was Daytripper lookalike Ian Pearce. Pearce is a fine reader of the game and is the colossus that the rest of the Saints defence is built around, Wolves will do well to find a way past this Premier League beast. Another star of the Southampton line up is pacy striker Stern John, he may have an unhappy name but he has bought joy to the faces of many a Southampton supporter with some high quality performances since his move from Sunderland in August.
Southampton can also look to former player Ted Bate for inspiration. Bate, despite being uglier than a horrific merging of Iain Dowie and Wayne Rooney and arms longer than his legs is one of Southamptons most celebrated players and he’ll be hoping his sides aren’t defending like statues at Molineux tonight. Another famous face who Southampton can look to for inspiration is former Really Wild Show presenter Chris Packham, when Packham isn’t straddling co-host Michaela Strachan and rubbing his semen into co-host Terry Nutkins’ bald head he likes nothing better than a trip to St Marys to see if his beloved Saints have the animal instinct in front of goal.
An audience of 21,000 is expected at a raucous Molineux, including a noisy and boisterous following of 300 from the South Coast. Wolves will be hoping by the end of a night not for the Siant hearted Wolves will be three points closer to the promised land of the Play-Offs.
