442 with Bothroyd on left and Henry on right?? (A frightening prospect)

Or 433?

Henry will do a good defensive job on the right side of midfield (if thats where he's playing).. He offers nothing going forward from the middle anyway..

It could of course be 4-5-1, with both and keogh joing the big man up front as and when.. Yes, that sounds more like it..

Wolv3nsam
16-02-2008, 14:36
Henry's probably on the right to limit the threat of Ramsey, which makes sense.

I like the way that MM has now begun to exile Elliott from the starting lineup- after months of trying to convince the fans that he adds something to the team. Now the fans have started to warm to him after some promising displays, he can't even break into a much weakened team.

A wanderer from Bristol
16-02-2008, 14:40
But maybe 4-3-3 with a narrow midfield three of olo, henry and potter, with Kyle the spearhead and Bothroyd and keogh playing off him, left and right respectively? Foley and Gray bombing forward to give us some width? A new formation that makes the best of what we've ot (i.e. loads of strikers and no wingers). It might work?

brummywolf

Sounds the best option considering the lack of width in midfield. Henry or George to play very deep to give defensive cover.

So better to have nothing on the right wing than nothing in the centre? An alternative might be to not play him? Just a thought...

what? half a page down and no eastwood love-in? whats this place coming to?! i thought you would have hung mick up and left him out to dry before a ball had even been kicked for not including eastwood...

Personally i think this is 4-5-1 looking to break on the counter attack with Bothroyd and Keogh out wide, got a good feeling about today, god knows why, if we can keep them out till half time i think we can sneak this 1-0.

Grizzled Wolf
16-02-2008, 14:43
G'day all!! Have we had a man sent off already?

Taffywolf
16-02-2008, 14:45
His selections just don't make sense to me. Only 2 weeks ago He was bragging Elliot's performances, Elliot then had 1 bad game and he's out in the wilderness even with a badly weakened side.. He would of been a much better option than Henry/Potter on the right.
Or with the players available today I would of gone with a defensive midfield and 3 forwards/
Olofinjana, Henry and Potter holding and the front 3 of Eastwood, Keogh and Elliot buzzing up top....

The starting 11 would suggest that, but I have the feeling that we'll see Potter and Bothroyd both played well out of position as MM sticks to 4-4-2 and lumps it towards Kyle

Good point! Where the **** is eastwood? Mick out!

IN all seriousness it is the sort of game that might suit freddy. He is able to pick the ball up deep and make a goal out of nothing. Might be our best chance of scoring without much natural width!

Wolv3nsam

As said, I think Henry is out on the right to limit Ramsey, as good as Elliot is he's pretty $$$$ poor defensively.

I know what you're saying... depends how they line up i suppose... it looks very much like a 4-5-1, which would make sense woth potter, olo and henry in the middle.. mm played that system last season with davies on his own up front..

Selective quoting my friend!!

My point was.. if you read on that playing 4-3-3 of 4-5-1 might be the best formation given we don't have any wingers. I'm not talking about personnel.. I wouldn't pick Kyle.

And by the way, I'm ON the sofa :p

jrpb-3
16-02-2008, 14:58
With no Kightly or Jarvis and Edwards cup tied there won't be much creativity. Looks like route 1 to Kyle and Keogh and Bothroyd to feed off that. It won't be pretty, but it could be effective

I said before January, that we needed to sign at least one winger (even on loan) so that if Jarvis/Kights get injured we have sufficient cover. Now both are injured, we are forced to either play players out of position or change to a narrow, uncreative system.
