View Full Version : Cardiff - MMs after - match comments!

Have just been on the Prediction thread- stands 10-4 Cardiff with a few draws. Assuming the match goes as per the forecasts and with tongue in cheek I list in no particular order the points that may be made by Mad Mick in the after-match press conference -
Keogh will get on the score sheet before the end of the season
Kyle was up for it but his luck just was not in today
We should have had a penalty
We can now concentrate on the league
The injuries made a difference
Elliott was Elliott
No width today
Would loved to have played Jones but he got cup-tied whilst on loan
The referee was Welsh
It was a long trip down the M5
Seyi was tired after the ANC
Will work on the set-pieces/long throws
I gave Freddy 5 minutes but he just did not put a shift in
Wardy was unfortunate with the 4th goal

You cant really blame the players after seeing Robson and Dowie sacked it affected their playing as they were so worried about my position here. The positive about today is that after Cardiff beating us ten nil I think we might just have saved Dave Jones' job. Now who is this fella that is under threat at Scunthorpe?

cant wait to hear him make things up off of the top of his head
. Freddy should have changed and secured the game within the 30seconds of game time i gave him
. Kyle was excellent for the 26 minutes before he was dismissed
. Keogh unlucky infront of goal but was different class with his mindless selfless running
. Elliot- typical of his character just sublime after doing nothing for the full 90

I know. It's the outlandish comments that irritate me as much as anything.
But then again I'm easily irritated these days:o

Isn't it funny how my "Reserve" team that I don't want to pick are guiding us through the FA Cup? You would have thought I'd have picked this team for our league matches too!
I didn't realise Jay and Freddie would be so good together up front.
Oh, and by the way, did I really sign Kevin Kyle?

This has me thinking back to Mike Bassett England Manager.
Reporter - "The players looked knackered out there Mike, Tonka was dead after twenty minutes"
Mike Bassett - "Maybe so but what a twenty minutes he had"
hahahaha brilliant!!

Mick is an old fashioned manager. He likes to play 4-4-2 and he writes his transfer requests down on the back of South Park posters.

"We played well after conceding a silly goal early on then got hit with a sucker punch just before half time when Breeny fell over a beer can. The second half was dead even till they scored three lucky goals in the last 10 minutes.
The ref turned down a blatant penalty in the 92nd minute which could have changed the game. I thought Kyley had a good game and won a header or three before he got sent off for an innocuous head butt on the Cardiff manager. Cardiff played for a draw and that is why we lost and Eliott did well. Freddy did'nt show up again....well not in the 35 seconds he got. I'm going back to basics next week because we need to win a game if we want to stay within 9 points of the final play off place...

I thought we played well for 45 seconds, but a moments lack of concentration cost us again. And thats a shame, because up till then I thought we were playing well and looked the most likely team to score
People have to remember where this club was 18 months ago. I thought we had good spells today especially Kyle's guile and awareness. I was happy to see Potter come in a do a job. He gets a bit of unfair criticism but he's different class in training. I'm disappointed we're out of the cup but now we can concentrate on the league. I still believe my team is good enough and I think I do know what I'm doing!

Awaiting the after match press conference with some interest. How he will explain that shambles away, after 6 months of rubbish football, is beyond me. He will say 'we did not turn up' but not explain why, he will blame injuries/ absentees, he will say 'time to concentrate on league' and '6th spot is still attainable' but again will not explain how. What he will not say is that he is resigning
Mick was honest as ever but more as less admitted he couldn't do much more. I really like the guy but i think he has got one hell of a task that is beyond his capabilities to put things right.

"Oh well, we can now concentrate on the fight against relegation!"
"That's three games out of four we've been a goal down within a minute or two and we didn't recover and it was an awful performance by us. "Apparently some of the fans on the terraces were singing to the lads at the warm-down that they were a disgrace and the performance was poor and I have to say I'm not going to disagree with that.
"We haven't had a worse performance than that all season. I was embarrased by that today and I've said that to the players.
"Any stick the fans are giving out to us is thoroughly deserved today."

I think the erly goal really upset him. As he said, the preparation was thorough and "right" but early goals just set us back and today, we didn't have any character to fight back..and that's worrying.
I think we'll see several changes on Tuesday night.

We've given our opponents early goals in three out of the last four games!
Perhaps the "thorough preparation!" should include being awake when the game starts!

He has struggled to put a square peg in a square hole since his tenure began. We have a glut of strikers and a glut of defensive midfielders and no youth policy whatsoever. Morgan seems the type of blinkered nob who say there is X available to spend and Y should be the result. McCarthy has been put under pressure to perform and he is incapable. It is all depressingly cyclical and so predictable.

What a prat....not that many weeks ago he was attacking the fans saying that they should not have a go at the players and that they should have a go at him....as he is 'big enough to take it'.....now the pressure is on he is saying the fans are right to have a go at the players....no Mick, the fans should not be having a go at the players and never should have...it should be aimed at you for the clueless tactics, playing players out of position...not utilising the youth players fully, not sorting out basics such as the centre of defence...buying carthorses such as Breen, Darren Ward, Kyle....for undermining players confience, people like Collins by playing them out of position or Eastwood by dropping him when he is doing the job you bought him for and then criticising him in public...the list goes on.
So now you are trying to distance yourself by saying the players were an embarrassment and deserve the stick...what a leader of men!!!!

I thought that it was a good honest interview --playing players out of position does not stop them playing as professional footballers --with one or two exceptions each player was guilty of playing as badly as seemed possible ,I thought his comments about the fans having a go at the players was therefore appropriate , remember that previously he had a knock at fans for having a go at players before and during the game rather than this time which was afterwards.

Having now had chance to listen to his comments I actually feel sorry for the bloke and he did genuinely looked well and truly upset and peed off but unless he can turn things round by the end of this month I just cannot see the point of him staying.
He was annoyed by the comment re lack of desire!! Why? The team were woeful beyond belief very few showed any commitment, idea, desire or ability.

He obviously does care, unlike that $$$$ Hoddle when he was in charge.
He is under pressure, and MM does not have a good track record of turning things around when the knives are out (Sunderland, Rep of Ireland).
But as a previous poster says, he cant have it both ways. 'Dont have a go at the players, have a go at me' has quickly turned into 'the players deserve the fans' abuse''.

Listening or reading any of Mick's interviews when he's on a different program and chatting about Wolves you know he cares about the job and desperately wants to get us up, you can tell he's passionate about the job when you see his reactions during matches. I also recall him saying things like "I don't want anybody in MY seat taking MY lads to the Premiership and fulfilling MY ambition". It's worrying though because judging by his post-match comments on MOTD the players are ignoring his instructions and not playing the way he wants them to, the questions "Why?" and "Is he the right man?" have to start being asked once this is the case.
