Following on from a discussion on Talksport, what would you rather we won this season...promotion or the cup?
There are arguments for both, but IMO, promotion and the chance of being in the top flight will always win.
There again, if we win the cup it will be in the history books...
Cup.
Have a season in Europe, maybe attract some decent Prem youngsters from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea who even MM can't drop because they forgot to chase a ball down.

Are you saying that winning the cup may actually set us up for promotion the following season due to the press coverage??
Never thought of that...good idea!

Cup. We'd get destroyed in the Premiership.

As promotion is an eneven and unrealistic option, its got to be the cup. Shame that the F.A. Cup has been completely de-valued in recent years thanks to the greed league obsession. But the F.A.Cup 'nostalgia and glory' will never die as far as I am concerned.

It could well distract us from promotion. But if you were to get drawn against a poor European team, get a bit lucky and stay in it for a couple of rounds, the club's profile would raise significantly and it would be a bit easier to attract the better players for a year.
In personal terms then an FA cup win.. no contest
If only for the fact that we would be in Europe, hopefully get a draw to an eastern european country like Montenegro or somewhere similar. The advantage being that the way the UEFA cup is currently set up you only need to win your first round tie to then progress to the group stages..
Lets face it, even if we do go up and establish ourselves we will never challenge for the title in the present climate. an FA cup win and a game or 2 in europe would increase the marketability of Wolves worldwide.. or at least make us better known when it comes to recruiting players from abroad.
Looking at it from a Long term future of the club perspective then it would have to be establishing us in the prem though..for so many reasons on and off the pitch, the most important being the financial side of the game now that as from next season it will be virtually impossible to get promoted from this division without one of the relegated sides having major problems IMO
The question of the thread will be a rhetorical one by 445pm anyway

Round the world tour or day trip to Hunstanton?
I'd say we have more chance of winning 3 one off games to get us to the final (which might be enough to get into europe if you met one of the top 4 in the final) than we have of getting around 30 points from our last 14 games and then having to win 3 more games!
I'd even take getting to the semi's as a result after seeing how we've played for the majority of this season-are the semi-finals at Wembley this year? Would a Wolves v Albion semi-final be a dream tie or a nightmare one-i guess it would be a nightmare scenario for the police.

First season I have ever said the Cup over promotion.
Probably because I'm fed up with all the let downs and not confident we will do well if promoted.

I'm heartened by people's responses to this. The biggest myth in the game perpetuated in recent years is that existence in the premiership is worth more than winning silverware and the chance to play in Europe. I find it remarkable that anybody can find the idea of being another Bolton, Blues (add more dull clubs as you wish) and ekeing out a premiership living could ever beat the thrill of what every team sets out to do and that's winning trophies.
fa cup, although promotion would be great. with this squad we would never stay up. we can raise our game for big games and if we play to our best then we have a chance.
this could look pretty silly come 5.00pm 2moro like someone already said though

The Cup for me.
Promotion with this team will mean we come straight down the next.
With the Cup, its Europe.. easy peasy

Promotion or the Cup?
Neither.
12th in the division, in poor form, no chance.
In the Cup, played a Non-League club and struggled. Played a Watford team who didn't try and the only chance against Cardiff is if they don't try either.

Cup, as crazy as that sounds.
I don't think this team is ready for the PL. We would get murdered pretty much every week. We all like to think Morgan would pump in 'enough money to keep us up', but buying a few premier league quality players isn't any guarantee of success. The mentality has to be right at the club, and sadly, that is something that feels like it is lacking in spades.
I was prepared to give Mick a couple of seasons to build a team with enough ability, strength in depth, belief and hunger to survive the PL, but recently I have had grave doubts about his ability as a manager to put that type of team together. He may get us out of this division, but to be honest, we'll be another one season PL wonder with him in charge.

Cup for me but why do we have to make a choice, both would be great

Wake up Doc, It's called being realistic.
No, it's called having a laff at the fact anyone would take either option seriously on current performances. It was a quick reply so there were no smilies to hand.

cross off the cup option..
cross off the cup option..
I'm well gutted we are out-this was a great chance for any lower league team to progress with a favourable draw to the final(especially now Barnsley knocked Liverpool out)-you almost seem glad that we are out-do you ever think of anything positive or are you just on a big wind up?

how come there isn't an 'avoid relegation' option ?

I'm sticking with my prediction: Now out of the Cup, no chance in the league either.

At our present rate of "progress" we will finish about 8 places off the bottom of the table...
