I think Wise will be a top manager one day. He seems to be held in high regards in the football world. A good move for him.

Brilliant news this will stuff Leeds up some more. Having said that though their form has been getting worse by the week for some time now.

He's a mad man. Leeds are the proverbial sleeping giant- getting 30,000 plus in League One. They looked a good bet for promotion- who knows what he would have achieved with them in the Championship next season. Definitely a step backwards- after all, when Keegan leaves, it's Shearer's job.

I'm with Brummywolf on this. Think it's a mistake. Hilarious as it is to see Leeds so far down - they are a big club, and with a bit of investment if they make it into the Championship, they could suddenly rise very quickly. It's not even like Wise has any connection with Newcastle - strange choice in my view. Guess it's down to the huge wads of cash.

On a different note I saw that Mark Kennedy is rumoured to be leaving Palace to join...............MK Dons (That's JJ, Cams, Andrews and now maybe Kennedy) Incey will have to change their name soon to MK Wolves.

Jamboon

Is it a wise choice?

Interesting if MK goes to MK... Ince certainly going for known quantities there. Who are the slightly better Wolves rejects he will pick up next season when they get promoted? Leon Clarke anyone....

It's what you get when you have a fanboy as owner. He's running the club like a fan would, like a a new toy, rather than as a sensible owner.

What does that mean exactly being D.O.F?? Strange appointment indeed, so not Keegan's No.2?

Its got to be as No2.

I cant see what qualities Wise would bring to the club as a DOF

Leeds loss of form coincides with the departure of Poyet. Seems the Elland Road Exec have sussed this given their swift agreement to Newcastle's compensation offer.

Tuco
28-01-2008, 16:51
Maybe it's KK who will be DoF? wasn't he chief operations officer or something at fulham with Chris Coleman as coach?

When asked KK also said it was best for chris mort to explain whats happening later in the week. Maybe he hasn't a clue either!

Waggy's Boots
28-01-2008, 16:52
Bizarre...surely he'll be Keegans number 2 rather than a director of football, who is usually the link between the manager and the board? I could understand the feisty little git being involved on the touchline but in the boardroom as a DoF is really odd.
A baffling one....but then we are talking about Newcastle and they are running the risk of becoming an even greater laughing stock than they already are!!

Waggy's Boots
28-01-2008, 16:56
I've got it!!

of course - Keegan's bottled it already and has asked for a move upstairs to DoF and Wise has been brought in to run the playing side - Chris Mort will explain all later this week and now sell shirts with Wise on the back instead of Keegan!! Shearer to be unveiled next week as manager when Wise can't bear the weight of expectation after his first game at the helm......phew.

Ginger Chimp
28-01-2008, 16:58
Of course, if Keegan loses it and $$$$$$$s off (as he is prone to doing) then Newcastle will have an experienced manager ready and waiting to take over.

Very interesting point - Poyet could prove to be a very handy purchase for Chelsea, who are wining their way through what should have been a tricky period with injuries and the ANC...

I don't know how he does it and still find the time to assist Ramos at Tottenham. ;)

That is the craziest thing i've heard for a long long time. It might have worked a few years ago but most mid table premiership teams are far more organised than they were when Keegan last managed Newcastle so he will ultimately make himself look like a $$$$. When the pressure builds he folds.

Dennis Wise - Director of Football at Newcastle.

They are the laughing stock of English football.

It's sad but haven't Wolves been held in similar regard as Newcastle for some years now only in different leagues? Massive potential, huge fanbase, fanatical support, years of underachieving etc...

Surely if Newcastle were gonna Poach a Director of Football from Leeds they should have gone for Dave Bassett? That is the position he's got at Leeds isn't it?

I think Keegan's ego is just looking for more attention...

Wise isn't all that, Leeds seem to have dipped quite badly since Poyet, the brains behind the two left, yet look at the turn in fortunes at Spurs.

Having already lost Poyet & with Dave Bassett drawing a lot of flak, it does seem strange that Bates doesn't seem to have made a lot of effort to hang on to Wise. Perhaps he already has some ex-Chelsea contacts lined up : Hoddle, Vialli, Rix? Probably not Gullit.

He is going as DOF and apparently (according to 5live) Keegan is none too happy about it !

If you want a reason for going his wages have gone up from £0.5m to £1.5m AND his job will be based in London !! You couldn't make up the ridiculousness of Newcastle - a busted flush trying to make a bid for success via sentiment !!
Keegan won't last the season before he breaks down into an uncontrollable mess or the lardies on the terraces call for his head.

29-01-2008, 07:32
I think it's fairly obvious,Newcastle will realise by the end of the season that they have $$$$ed up big style by allowing a shirt wearing fan/owner to choose their Manager.
When Keegan is either sacked or, (more likely) runs away at the end of the season,a decent up and coming new Manager will be there to pick up the pieces.

Agree that Wise can step in when Keegan has his inevitable hissy and walks out - however what odds on his style then leading to the same outcome as Allardyce

From what Keegan's said it looks like Mike Ashley appointed Wise behind Keegan's back. More than likely because he knows Keegan's completely clueless.

Its interesting, I always suspect people over-estimate the influence of the manager, and under-estimate the influence of his assistant. Most people on MolMix cream themselves over Paul Ince, but I'd be interested to know how much he does at MK Dons and Macclesfield, and how much is done by the hugely experienced Ray Mathias.
