Both clubs should progress to the last 8

It may be a crap draw for those that planned to go, but it gives us a pretty decent chance of getting into the QFs.

28-01-2008, 13:42

That's a great draw...what the hell are some people on? A team from our own league, who we've beaten..and we can play away from home on the break? All the pressure is on Cardiff....rather have them than Cov, West Brom, Soton or any Prem side.
Negotiate this and we're in the big money and live on TV.
A better than average draw.

We certainly have every chance of progressing, but a horrible, non-glamorous, championship away affair again.

All well and good if we win, save the 'big' ties for the latter stages, but a massive anti-climax if we don't go through.

Well summed up.

For the chance of a day out, its the worst possible draw out of the 15 we could have had. Poor ground, most unwelcoming.
However, looking at it from a footy point of view, I think its great. With 8 teams from the Championship still left, it stood a chance we would draw one of them. Better to be Cardiff than WBA and our eternal bogey side Saints.
Still a fair chance of meeting Coventry or Sheff Utd in the quarters as well. Expect Cardiff are thinking the same mind.....

I agree. A very tough game & can only be seen as a less than kind draw.

Just wanted a home draw tbh. Would've even took Boro or Pompey at home than Cardiff away.

They are gonna be bang up for this, make no mistake.

3 of the big 4 in the qf's too, so looking to a sf spot at this stage is very, very optimistic.

Almost certainly half, I'm sure when clubs such as Tottenham and Leeds have played there in the cup in recent years they've only got half.

Decent draw IMHO, good chance of going through, we have a good record against Cardiff....could have been a lot worse.....Portsmouth home or away, Huddersfield away, Sheff Utd away (or at home), Bristol rovers, Cov home or away, Middlesbro (although I'd fancy our chances against them at home), Preston, etc etc...loads of potentially $$$$ games where we could have easily gone out.

Having a quick look, and if they offer us 15% in accordance with FA Rules, that works out to approximately 3056! If I remember, the usual away allocation is about 2000, so either they give us more tickets somewhere else, give us the other "half" of the stand, or play the safety factor and give us the usual allocation.

The bluebirds fans at work say they never give more than the usual 1/2 an end away area to teams in the cup based on safety reasons to do with the layout of the ground exits and entrances.
Personally I think its a great draw, looking forward to a good day out without much travelling.

Being drawn away against a Championship Side, and with David Jones as their Manager, puts them as favourites, so coming from behind may not be that bad, similar to what happened against Watford, but every match is a different story, but who knows.

Wolves may win the FA Cup this season which is the centenery of the second FA Cup win in 1908.

Its a toss up between getting a glamour tie - and going out in the last 16. Which isn't really that special. Or having a realistic possibility of getting to the next round, much more of an achievement, and then playing a big side. I'm happy that we're in with a chance of progressing.

well man utd have arsenal. but not happy with our draw really...

I'd rather they had avoided each other, to be honest. I don't see us getting to Wembley, but a semi-final place with the other three teams having European football next year would have seen us into the UEFA cup.

I wonder does anyone know what would happen if the semi's were, say, Arsenal v. Wolves and Chelsea v. Middlesbrough, and Chelsea and Arsenal both got through, and finished in a European place? Would they have a play-off between Wolves and M'Boro to see who got into Europe?

Can't see them showing Cardiff v. Wolves over here, and for that reason I'm a bit disappointed, but we do stand a reasonable chance of progressing, IMO.

Rubbish draw, no money in it for the club, especially if we lose at Cardiff and not much more for a replay.

If we really intend to go for a play-off spot the last thing we need is extra games in the Cup. We've haven't got a big squad ( at least not one with much quality ) and with players like Kightly and Craddock on the injured list already we are likely to struggle long term.

Don't get fooled by the Watford display, that was a one-off. Wolves players deserved the victory because they put in the effort and Watford didn't, but Boothroyd won't make the same mistake next Saturday in the league.

For fans of clubs like Wolves a cup run is great, but unfortunately in today's football reality the Premiership is where the money is. I can't see our set of players being able to achieve a long cup run and promotion.
When we won our place in the Greed league, at the Millenium, we played a Sheff.Utd team who had had a fantastic season in cup competitions. They had very good squad but had nothing left on the day!

Personally I'm really happy with the draw.

Cardiff is usually a good day out, get there early enough and do a tour of the Millennium Stadium (for old times sake!), find a decent pub before the game. Onto the ground, and not the best view to be fair, but it's always good to be standing on a terrace again, with home fans that always create a good atmosphere and a bit of banter.

Need to keep your wits about you afterwards, but I've never had any trouble, and you can usually get back to the station on your own if you tell the police you've come by car and sneak out through the coaches quietly on your own.

A day out 'roughing it' at Cardiff is far more enjoyable than the sanitised, 'family friendly' all-seater, poor atmosphere grounds that we could have got to go to.

I said just before the draw, the two worst possible ties for us would be Albion home or away which would have been a disaster or Cardiff at Ninian Park. Even Barnsley away I'd have preferred as I Cardiff's form has improved quite a bit.

Well a winnable but tough tie. If it wasn't for the fact a win puts us in the 1/4 finals and a kind draw from the semis it would have to be callled a dull draw. A UEFA cup spot will only go to one of the finalists. If both finalists qualify for the champions league then the extra UEFA cup spot goes to the the highest placed premier league side who finished outside the European places.

Well thats that they used to do but i think i read that only the winners will get the UEFA cup spot. But i could be wrong im just sure i heard they that changed the ruling.

NO semi finalists will get a UEFA cup spot

I wasnt happy at first, but ive thought about it all day and seeing the rest of the draw really makes it very interesting indeed. I mean, ourselves, Cov, Tescos, Southampton and Bristol all could have met 'Big Teams' and would have effectively seen the quarterfinal fill with prem teams, and not forgetting Preston and Sheffield having beatable prem teams at home means that should we beat scummy Cardiff (which i think we will),... we could face another winnable team in the quarter.

Thats how we would like it off course. How we wont is, scrape a draw, give ourselves an extra game and fall flat on our faces back at the Mol, on a wet $$$$y night. Its a win it or lose it game for me, i just dont want another game for us, especially if we get a wee league run together and then get hit with a replay against the dirty Cardiff.... win or lose it lads... no replays!

So then, another 3-0 by halftime game, injury free, and get the hell out of Dodge thank you very much. Could have had a better, more glamorous draw, but could have been a hell of a lot worse, Arse and Manure away for example....
