Seven games. Twelve Points. Sixth. Two points off second place.
How many of you would of taken that at the start of the season ?
Wolves fans still surprise me (although I should know betterby now !)- unless it was played 7, 21 points, the the wingers start......
What have Seol and Ricketts got to do with it?
(p.s. I'm relatively happy btw!)

I am disappointed with the start to the season, not particularly happy at all.
We have played some good football and created a massive amount of efforts on goal especially against Hull, Cardiff, Leeds and QPR but scored very few. We have won 3, but were lucky to beat Hull and Palace. We were outplayed on Saturday at Luton. smileys/smiley7.gif
smileys/smiley32.gifQPR was the highlight so far, without doubt. I can't comment on Chester because I didn't go.
Forgive me it's Monday morning. smileys/smiley11.gif

It´s a start with nothing gained,nothing lost.
Status Quo.
If we wanna be top two(and we sure wants to)we need approx.1,9 points per round. We are around that mark so we need to continue we way we´re doing except just a little bit better.
What´s really good to see it that we´re keep on taking three points at the Mol.
We need to continue to do just that if we´re gonna get promoted.

we will gain promotion via our home form, if thats good enough we may only need 32/33 points from our travels ?

We're 6 points behind Sheffield United. There is no way they, or anyone else can maintain that form throughout the season. Whereas, our form is steady, easily maintable, and can be bettered as we go along.
Millwall, Leicester, Watford, Stoke, Crewe and Burnley to come before we go to Sheffield United.
I'd like to think we'll be well on our way by the time we go to there.
We're not going to pick up three points every time we play at home, so
somewhere along the line we're going top need to pick up a few away
wins. The benchmark for winning the league is (I think) 25 wins and
around a dozen draws.
And I don't care about it being a fair result at Luton, I wanted to win it! It's a sport!
So far this season I think we've been putting in play-off team
performances, picking up play-off team results with a play-off team
squad. Don't book any holidays in May.

Just out of interest who do you think has been putting in automatic team performances, picking up automatic team results and has an automatic team squad?
Personally I don't think anyone has, so staying in touch (6-9 points) with the top til after Christmas will still leave us a very good chance of wining the league. I see no "Fulham/Peter Reids Sunderland" this year.

I'd agree that it has been a solid rather than excellent start, a major concern for me is the continuing absence of Paul Ince or a similar type player. Again on Saturday we lacked bite or balance in midfield.
On the more general point, having supported the Wolves for so long, the only time I'll relax and enjoy the game is when automatic promotion is a statistical certainty. On second thoughts, that's the point at which worrying about the following season would start!
Oh to be a happy clapper. smileys/smiley17.gif
How many points start should we give Sheffield Utd. before we rein them
in? So far they have managed to open up a 6 point lead in only 7 games
and their goal difference is already 7 goals better than ours.
It just shows how low our expectations are, we are hoping to hang onto
the coat tails of Sheffield Utd. and that they hit a bad patch.

For reasons best known to myself, I watched the DVD of the 2001-2 season yesterday. At this stage of the season, the top two were Burnley and Grimsby Town. smileys/smiley5.gif
I am very happy, especially now palace are winning every game and johnson is scoring, so we need to be in the top 2 with palace if we are to go up automatically, not letting sheff run away cause i am sure palace will do very well this year.

Did you carry on watching until the home game against that same Grimsby
side? I'll be extremely surprised if all that Sheffield Utd. do at the
end of the season is beat Wolves to stop us getting promoted.
ID I'll have a tenner with you that we finish above them

I hear what you're saying, but my point was that you can't read too much into the first seven games of the season. Sheff Utd have had a relatively easy start, have scored a lot of late goals, and personally, I don't think they'll make the play-offs. They have the same problem as they had last season, i.e. a turtle-slow defence, and they always seem to have an obligatory cup run which messes up their league form.
It's not a sprint, it's a marathon. The World's greatest marathon
runners lead from the front and put as much distance as they can betwean themselves
and their competitors. They set such a pace that no one can keep up
with them, that way if they need to stop for a $$$$$ on the way they can
still win.

Even though i would be far happier if we had say won at least one of
our away games, i still think we have had a decentish start. Sheff utd
are annoying, but every match they play seems to be at home and against
$$$$$ teams.
IMAB,
where we finish in relation to Sheffield Utd. is of no interest to me, they just happen to be at the top now and have opened up a 6 point advantage over us in only 7 games. Those 6 points are from 3 games where we have drawn, when we had the opportunity to win. We failed to make the play-offs last season due to drawing too many games and we have started this season in the same manner.
In the last 13 games we have taken 26 points, on that form 100 points or close is possible,Sheff Utd have taken 23 points, possible 90 points, based on both our current form, whats it mean, Not a lot, the league is to strong for any team to run away with it, including ourselfs,as long as we stay with anybreak away pack,I believe we have the manager and squad for the long haul.

Who will finish higher, Wolves or Sheff Utd?$
It would be nice to be confident that it will be Wolves, but I'm not sure.
The point is, we have 5 regular first team players who are current international team players for their respective countries and Sheffield Utd. have a couple. They have barely broken sweat in opening up a 6 point lead over us and this doesn't seem to bother you at all. You are more worried about how quickly you can get a beer at half time and what is going on with Gary Megson.
We appear to have one of the best squads in the division and people tell me that we have the best manager in the division, why are we barely clinging onto a play-off position?
It would be nice to be confident that it will be Wolves, but I'm not sure.
Are you a local counciller?
You seem to possess a politicians skill for avoiding answering the question.
Who will finish higher Wolves or Sheff Utd?
If you think it's Wolves then you believe we will catch up Utd.
If you think it's Utd then say so, and you would at least have a reason for wittering on.
Nobody else is bothered as it's only 7 games, and we haven't played the same teams, a little fact you deliberatly ignore so you can have a pop at Glenn/ the team.
Tell us again why you go if you dislike the style of play / manager so much?
Why not stay away til he is eventually sacked?
IMAB,
I'll give you another politicians answer, based on what has happened so
far this season and on our squad. The only way that I can see us
finishing above Sheffield Utd. is if they slump down the division to
9th place or below.
Plenty of people care about what has happened so far, even though we
have had only 7 games. Do the results so far not count? If they are 6
points above us at the end of the season do they get those points
deducted because they won them in the first 7 games?
Where did I say that I disliked the style of play or the manager? I
might not be creaming my pants with excitement, but there's nothing
happening at Wolves to get that excited about yet.
Stay away? Good idea! Do you not notice the thousands of empty seats
before you go on your quest for your half time beer. All they wanted
was a fair price rise and some decent defenders, all you worry about is
your half time pint.
The only way that I can see us finishing above Sheffield Utd. is if they slump down the division to 9th place or below.
You think we will finish no higher than 8th. Want a tenner on it? I genuinely believe we will finish no lower than 6th, as I said at the start of the season.
Where did I say that I disliked the style of play or the manager?
Now I know your taking the $$$$$, you've been saying it everywhere, all over this board. Unless you like "boring sideways football"
All you worry about is your half time pint.
Yes, for some reasonI'm glad you've taken that in.

Early early doorsfolks......
To date Sheff Utd have hardly played any of the fancied contenders... It will be interesting to see how they contuinue over the next month or 2... As Octoberand November looks a tough month for them, games against Reading, Us, Leeds and Palace coming think and fast....
I firmly believe were bubbling along nicely, they say an average points haul of 2 pts a game secures promotion were only just 2pts off that scenario with 2 back to back home games, the mindset put in place by Hoddle is to aim only for the title no talk of play-offs, he's not interested in second best... Stay with the pack come January and spend cash that other clubs have already spent out and we could be in postition to shift through the gearsEdited by: In Hod We Trust
