View Full Version : How many away grounds have you been to following Wolves??

Was bored at work so decided to write down all the grounds I've been to following Wolves.

Despite me seeing us mainly play in the same league for 20 years I racked up a fairly impressive 40.

I also worked out roughly how many times I'd been to each one & although unsurprisingly The Hawthorns came out top with 9 visits, Vicarage Road, randomly came out second with 7 visits.

Whats everyone else on??

Being only 19 I think I have quite an impressive record seeing Wolves away with 35 away grounds wiht Scunthorpe being number 36. In total for matches though, I will ahve been to 40 with the Scunthorpe, hoping for 41 with the Nou Camp in March with others being visited but no match played

It's Friday afternoon,; Class A drugs, what else?

I got to 35 and then got more bored than I was working....

I think Stoke, wrapping up the Victoria ground and the new horrible hovel as one venue, is the most.

Off the top of my head haven't been to the MK Dons place, The Emirates, Cheltenham, Dagenham and Redbridge and Accrington Stanley.

There may be another 1 or 2 but that's what I know right now.

There's a nifty facebook application that you can track the away games you've been to on a Map. I've been to 41 following Wolves and then I've done a handful of others not following Wolves. Scunthorpe will be 42 next Saturday.

The most I have been to are:

Stockport and Sheff Utd (both 5 times)

I've got the facebook appilcation and have done 58 league grounds and 65 overall apparently. But some teams have been at two grounds such as Stoke (Victoria & Britannia) so my number might be a bit higher than it should be. Still I'm happy with that amount at the age of 24. Just think of all the money we've all wasted though! Nevermind!

I've been to The Hawthorns and Bramall Lane 8 times each; Sheff Wed, Stoke & Norwich 7 times and Leicester, Notts Forest & Watford 6 times.

Shouldn't it be more like how many away clubs now rather than the grounds as quite a few have moved to new grounds over the last few years. The last time i worked it out i'd been to 83 of the league clubs with Wolves but that was about 10 years ago.Now with teams being promoted and relegated from the Conference its going to start getting less. There are a couple of teams that i can't rememeber us playing for a long long time as we passed each other on the way down and on the way back up-York i think is one of them and i think theres someone else.

The only 1 i've somehow never been to in the top 2 divisions is Southampton-yet we seem to be forever playing them down there on a Tuesday night.Oh and i can't be sure if i've been to Scunthorpe or not so i'd better go next week then to see if it jogs my memory!

A below average 20

3 no longer exist, Highbury, Highfield Road and Ayrsome Park and Ewood Park has since been re-developed.

Visited 45, majority of those over a four year period in the mid 90's.

Probably been to the Blose more than any other as i love nothing more than beating those scummy brummies. The 4-0 live on TV was a classic as was the victory when SGBOBE scored after 43 seconds.

A Villa mate of mine had visited 90 of 91 away grounds. The last one was Grimsby, but for a couple of years he never managed it. Decided to go first game of the season and sods law, Villa drew them away in the League Cup the very next week.

Been to wembley twice, once to see England to boo Carlton Palmer, the other to watch the boggies play-off victory over Port Vale, 1993 I think.

Make that four as I also saw Madonna and Michael Jackson in the 1980's.

lol - been to a load never counted - I almost prefer away games. For some reason I've been to Carrow Road a lot even though its a dive and a pig to get to.

Essex you don't have to go to Franchise FC as its a franchise not a football club. If they don't get into the prem in the next few years Asda and Ikea will pull the plug and it will become a top rugby ground or concert venue!

I think I went to that Michael Jackson concert (for the girlfriend like) anyway she got up on my shoulders like you do and someone launched a 2 litre water bottle and smacked her clean on the head - I nearly burst an appendix laughing as I realised what the dull thud was. We parted amicably soon after !

Thanks Moira....found it. says I've been to 43, many of them the new grounds rather than old bar Highfield Road as being only 19. Am hoping by end of university to get to 50 but its nice to see I've got quite a circle forming on the west coast side of UK for grounds. Think I need to go south a bit more but thats hard being in Hull

At one point I got up to about 68, then they started to move and relegation to the conference has cheated me out of a few.

Every year I will/support the team(s) in the league's bottom two places to avoid relegation if I've been to their grounds. Sadly a few like Halifax, aldershot, Torquay etc don't make it.

This has helped me waste a few minutes:

Current leagues
Prem = 20 (Highbury not Emirates)
Championship = 24 (Scunthorpe's old ground)
League 1 = 20
League 2 = 17
Conference = 7
Conf North = 1
Conf South = 2 (if you count Bath City - Bristol Rovers if memory serves me right)

Total = 91

Plus plenty of England away games.

51 in the UK. The majority of the teams still play in the league but there's a few like Kidderminster that got relegated. I think there's only Stoke that I've visited both their old and new ground. A few like Arsenal and Coventry, I've only visited their old ground.

Only visited one abroad, the San Siro.

I've got a grand total of 1.. When visiting England as 7 year old in 1997 went to a Telford match at what I guess was at Bucks Head. Anyway will work on that figure this year when I stay for a while say August-november. ;)

That though was before automatic relegation from the 4th flight was brought in. This particular achievement couldn't happen now---

There was such a thing called re-election prior to 87 ................ ;), otherwise Wigan Athletic wouldn't have replaced Southport for example.

I don't (unlike some) need to try to be clever ..................

Whether or not the process enabled clubs to be relegated on a regular basis is immaterial. There was a process there.

Ahhh, 87/88 to be precise. Scarborough being the 'lucky' recipients.

I used to drink in Legends pre-match and once I got talking to an old boy who had visited hundreds of grounds in the UK and Eire. He had a book which listed all the non-league grounds and he'd marked off each one he'd been to, what the score was etc etc..
Pretty darn impressive stuff. It turned out that on the following day he was travelling to the London area for an 11am kick off then somewhere else in say Wiltshire for a 3 o'clock game followed by another miles away for a 7:45 kick off. He must have travelled thousands upon thousands of miles in his quest to visit all the grounds.
I went on the Wolves tour of Ireland last year and watched two games, this guy went too and watched about seven!
Top bloke.

I've never counted the grounds I have been to but I think I've been to almost every ground wolves have played at since 1976. I can't think of a ground I haven't been to but will work it out tonight. Hate to think how much money I have spent over 3 decades and 27 years going to the Mol from London. Every game is an away game.

There is a facebook application where you can mark on a map all of the grounds you have been to if anybody is interested I will send it to them.

I had 54 in total.

Thinking back, I think I have probably been to Albion and Blues most times, but apart from that I would say Charlton, both the Sheffields, and perhaps Stockport are the most attended for me.

About 3 in non league. Oxford, Cambridge, Kiddy oh and Telford so thats 4.

Went to Dundee away for a pre season friendly aswell.

Along with the Hawthorns, think I have been to Krap Nottarf the most.

I've seen Wolves at 53 away grounds, but what I found surprising when counting them up was that of the eleven teams I have seen that have switched grounds, there's only one (Leicester) where I've been to both.

I have also seen league football at eight other grounds and speedway at two league grounds I haven't been to for football

When I go to Scunthorpe in a couple of weeks I will have done 80 but if you count clubs with their new stadiums then add at least another 10. I have also done PSV Eindhoven, Dundee United and the two Irish friendlies this year all against Wolves.

Right out of the current 92 clubs (incl wolves) I make it 85 grounds
Plus 14 grounds moved/rebuilt
Plus 7 Ex league Aldershot, Scarb, Newport County, Cambridge, Oxford, Torquay, Exeter
Wembley (Twice), Cardiff Mill
That's a total of 108

Plus UK friendlies, cup games?, plus the all of the 2 Portugal Tours and the Norwegian Tour.

There are 2 London Wolves members Dave Slape and Peter Abbot who did all the "old" ground hopping watching the Wolves. In the future this will be impossible - (hopefully!) In over 40 years Dave Slape has only missed one game because of a wedding and Peter Abbot only one because the train broke down and he still tried to get to the game but in vain

62 if you count teams that have been relegated, from the football league in England + Wembley/Cardiff Arms + Millennium Stadium. About 95% with Wolves. Notable exceptions Old Trafford The only ground I haven't been to in the North West. Newcastle although done both Sunderland grounds.

About 15 Scottish Grounds + Hampden & Murrayfield, and about 7/8 European grounds including Barca x2 Toulouse, PSV (UEFA Final).
