View Full Version : Transfer speculation
Busy day for the nationals, as they've got Everton set to bid £4m for Wayne and, more surprisingly, we are lining up a £1m purchase of Plymouth winger Peter Halmosi.
Never really seen much of him to be honest...

Halmosi wouldnt be a bad buy. If I remember, he's a left winger who can play both sides.

£4m for wayne, one of the best young keepers in the world! Dream on. £10m at least.

dont we have Jarvis? isn't he a right footed left midfielder/winger?? I dunno,I dont go to the matches but still.......
slightly off topic, whatever happened to Mulgrew?? thought he was a real young prospect (which translates to "if he's good enough for Celtic he'sgood enough for us")

Halmosi delivers a mean dead ball, would be a terrific signing at £1m.

In todays transfer money mad world £4M is a bit of an insult.Double that and add a bit and just maybe but Wolves don't need to sell.

Charlie Mulgrew is one of the worst players I have ever seen. Plus the fact "if he's good enough for Celtic he's good enough for us" translates to if he was that good then dont you think he would still be at Celtic??
Out of interest, does anyone know what the top ten record British transfers for goalkeepers are? I assume Craig Gordon is number one.
£4m seems an awful lot of money for a rookie.
This Wayne-Everton link is all Daytrippers fault!
As for Halmosi don't know a lot about him? But, from what i've just read he seems to tick the right boxes

If we can get Halmosi as cover for Kightly and erm, Jarvis/Ward then that would be a nice bit of business.
If we sell Wayne, with Matt injured, Stack an injured loanee, and Ikeme, a just returned from injury rookie, then we might as well pack up and go home!
The only way we would sell Wayne is if Wayne wants to leave, and as has been mentioned before, we loan him back for the rest of the season.

You are all going to love this one. 2 years after Frankowski, there is speculation that Wolves are interested in Elche's 22 year old centre back Samuel Llorca Ripoll (Samuel).
He's also been linked with Getafe, Almeria and Recreativo in Spain and, bizarrely, Man U.

"I think he'll wait for a premiership offer or go in the summer when he's seen who finishes where. He has a contract and has no better chance of going up with Wolves than he does with us." (Posted by Pasties_and_Cider)
"I'd say if it were to happen (which I really hope it doesn't), to hold out for lots of cash and a player exchange but I don't think they have anyone in their squad except Matt Murray who is better than we have (although I'd take Foley as competition for Shelly)." (Posted by Martin_Brock)
Its another case of small club syndrome. They must have caught it off Bristol City ha ha

seems to me that its another blinkered view from a championship rival who doesnt have a clue who our players are. a lot of the 'fans' around where i was sitting on saturday were asking which players were which, so it doesnt suprise me the away fans arent aware of some of our talented players...

Most likely to be broken by Scott Carson going to Villa for £10m, and if he is worth that much then so is Wayne

I barely have a clue which players other Championship teams have unless they play for a team a friend supports. You would need to have literally no life whatsoever or very narrow interests for it to be otherwise (or perhaps work in the state sector).

You got it right on, What is happening to Mulgrew, Scotland under 21 midfield with two goals to his credit, Wolves reserves with two goals in his last game in midfield one from 35 yards. one a header 6ft 5 inches.
Natural left foot, great dead ball kicker, good distributor of the ball. But!!! not a defenceman. What is going on.
Give him a run out MM.

I guess Scotland under 21s are away off track in their selection process, he scored two goals for them in midfield, then scores two for Wolves reserves a week ago one from 35 yards and the other a header from set play. What makes him such a bad player? or are you just a listen to others type guy and jump on the band wagon. Think for your self with some facts to back it up.
Mulgrew has not been given a run to date and is not a defence man as he has been labeled. Give the 20 year old young gun a chance with a patient run and let him prove or disprove himself to the fans.
If Mulgrew was at Celtic right now, he would be playing first teasm football.

It wouldn't suprise me if Holloway went in for him too in January.
I did read another rumour that Sheff Utd are sniffing round Hoolahan who is another good left-winger who we were linked with in the summer.

Are you Charlie himself or his brother?
From what I've seen of Charlie since he came to Wolves is not good, quite the opposite actually.
Scotland under21? Well how hard can it be to get into the under21's?
Can you see Charlie making the step up to the full squad?
Somebody said before Charlie must be a terrible leftback if he can't get into the team before Collins and that sums him up for me.
If and when he's good enough for the first team he'll be picked.

And if he can't get in on the left of midfield ahead of Ward then he can't be that much cop. We are still waiting for Jarvis to get a decent run so I think Mulgrew will have to wait for some time.
And MM signed him so it's not an inheritance like Rosa, clearly MM doesnt believe he is ready/good enough.
Use him as a makeweight in the Halmosi deal I say, gives us 3 proven wingers who can play either wing to chose from. (I am of course speculating Jarvis is 'proven', although of course we are yet to see, but the signs are good enough)

well davies cant get in before potter so he must be crap as well:rolleyes:, if mulgrew is a midfielder has he had a chance to play there yet? he's still young lets not right him off just yet eh.
so if MM is interested in halmosi does that mean he has identified where the squad is weak? surely that will make him a decent manager:p, we need strength in depth with a bit of quality too, i wouldnt sell hennessey to everton, they shafted us over the best centre back outside the top flight so we should get our own back and slap a £15m price tag on him.
With Lescott's injury past I think the deal was about right and it's turned out to be good for everyone. I don't feel shafted, however if we were to sell wayne now I would do.

Or maybe even off Wolves. £10-15 Million as a fair price for Hennessey? Since when did they start selling crack in Wetherspoons? Let's be honest, he's riding on a wave of post-derby euphoria. If he hadn't of saved that penalty, no-one would be coming up with this kind of silly price tag.
Excellent keeper, one for the future. But I'd bite Everton's arm off for £4 Million and a sell-on clause.

Davies has been injured for a considerable amount of time, there is no way he could be ahead of Potter, despite Potter being Potter, until very soon. Of which I am hoping that very soon Davies will be ahead of Potter. We know Davies can do it. We don't know Mulgrew can, so, if he can be used as a sweetner to get Halmosi and improve the squad then lets do it I say.
Otherwise, fair enough, give him time in the reserves or loan him out, I'm not saying he will never become a decent player, but I can't see him helping us this season.

Good luck to Everton, the only club who gambled on a youngster with potentially two bad knees and had never played one single game in the Prem. Like when Keane left we needed the money to keep afloat. Not so now, no one will leave unless we want then to.

Everton rather wasted the £4 odd million they spent on Steve Simonsen. That might have been a while ago, but Evertonians get very nervous when you talk to them about goalkeepers. I think Howard's the first one they've been happy with since Southall.

He has ages to go on his contract. If he's going to go it will be in the summer (if we fail to go up), when Ikeme and Murray are fully fit or there's plenty of time to find a replacement.

As long as the club keep making progress year on year no need at all to sell Hennessey, Kightly or anyone else unless they are screaming for a move and even then we would need to get absolute premium prices for them.
Never seen Halmosi but he sounds useful. However he is 28 so £1m should be an absolute maximum fee if we are after him. Cahill is the player I would really like. If Sheff U get his loan from Villa extended for the whole season he will be out of reach till the summer but if we do go up just the kind of player we will need to recruit. If he goes back to Villa he will be at best fourth choice for a CB place so would be worth putting a hefty bid in.

I don't think that Gyepes would have a bad word to say about us. He became a first team regular after a successful loan spell, the club stood by him for about a year when he got injured, and IIRC there was a very friendly split so that Gabor could return to Hungary to continue his rehabilitation.
