View Full Version : Harrogate Railwayv Mansfield
Amusing incident in the second half yesterday. The camera showed the crowd and there was a woman sat on the front row. Behind her was Harrogate's mascot ,and Mark Bright said "Can I see a Beaver?" (that was the mascot). I guess you had to be there.

The 'magic' of the FA cup!
Actually I started watching this game and realised there's nothing magic about rubbish football. I may as well have watched a load of under 12's chasing the ball up and and down a school field in between bouts of throwing mud at each other.
Turned over to Sky and watched that England versus the rest of the world game and realised that 40 year old ex internationals are still more entertaining than lower league hoofers - Zola would be our best player if he played for us. Weird thing is, I enjoyed it when we played in the 4th division. Now I just think grassroots football is fancy talk for turgid.

I agree about the quality ,but over the years I have seen a few Non league v Lower League cup games that have been excellent on TV. Sadly yeasterday was not one of them.

Having said that, I bet Harrogate Railway would still look like Brasil on comparison to the England womens (or just about any other womens football team). Saw some highlights of the world cup a few weeks back and it was embarassing. Goalkeepers are the worst of the lot. Anyone shoots from outside the box on target they score.
Womens football really is PC gone mad. Its not a sexist comment, its just $$$$ poor quality.
Can't understand why teams and the likes of the BBC throw money at it.

The magic of the FA Cup for me is when a little team gets through to the third round and they have the cameras on their lil excited faces as the draw takes place, only instead Man Utd, they draw Colchester or Walsall. They have to get themselves 'up' for the game and end up getting beat 8-1 by Colchester and become a footnote in the evening's Match of the Day show. That's magic for me. Just magic.
Not quite like Wolves v. Morecambe then duane?

That didn't happen in my world. Neither did Cambridge Utd nor Bolton before that.
I do remember when we went to Mansfield funnily enough and they were 2-0 at half time, De Wolf had an absolute shocker.
I had to sit in with Mansfield fans and gave myself away when I swore when their second goal went in.
Needless to say I was emitting a cloud of smug fumes when we eventually came back and won 3-2. Ruined their day, their weekend. I can only imagine how bitter their tears must have tasted. I stopped short of actually asking them that question for fear of getting my head caved in.

I used to play for Harrogate Town as it was known back there. Just thought I'd put that out there. I was pretty crap, even at that level.

Harrogate Town and Harrogate Railway are actually two different teams. Railway beat Town en route to the Mansfield game. Sorry for being a Statto.

I went the game as an ex chasetown player myself and it wasn't entertaining football but for the chasetown fans it was 'magic' and it was great to see the buzz and exciement that ties like that bring to the crowds.
