Good luck to him.

There's plenty of jobs at McDonalds for the lad.

Nothing against the lad but if wants to buy his family presents for xmas he'll have to his $$$$ down the McDonalds.

Nah it's a shame for the lad. His dream has been shattered but that's life.

You never know, he might fancy a stint in landscape gardening - maybe Mak Clyde could get him a job.

Plenty of players are released by us but forge a craeer in the lower divisions - Chris Westwood, Jermaine Easter, Shane Tudor etc. He's not good enough for us but he might find his level in League one or two. Good luck to him.

Fair enough Paul but will all his family really want Big Macs for Christmas gifts?;)

Cooper J, Easter is currently at Plymouth I believe.

Best of luck to him, I hope he can continue his footballing career in League 1 and hopefully make the step back up again in a few years time.

Nice lad, never quite fulfilled that early potential. Let's hope he finds another club lower down and makes a career with them,

Watched him at Hendesford the other night, will do ok at non-league level. Some reasonable youth team lads coming through behind him-Alex Melbourne superb interplay with mulgrew put crosses on a sixpence, one to watch.Ashley Hemmings,if he can use his speed to overcome lack of size, another one.Tom Spalding very comfortable with ball, quick and strong seems to play in every position at the back could be another off the academy production line.
Very impressed with Mulgrew in midfield-realise the opposition wern`t championship level but would like to see him play there more often might be a surprise package!!!!!

Via The lower divisions though!

Seen nothing to suggest he's anything other than a league one striker either to be honest.

The story according to my lad who is a mate, goes along the lines of: A couple of teams had come to watch him for the reserves either last week or the week before. About 20 mins before kick off told he now wasn't playing due to a first teamer needing a run out. He goes in next day to see Mick a little enraged and after a few words he his then told his contract will be terminated.

Any way this week he his off to Bristol City for a trial, so it will be interesting to see how he gets on

Good luck to him , he only has to look at Kites to realise that one set back doesnt destroy potential careers . :)

Accept that but didn't he come on as a sub against the Boggies and score soon after.

Exile Wolf, if that story is true, and I have no reason to think otherwise, it's pretty poor management.

Further drilling of my lad and it would seem that Mick knew a couple of clubs were coming down to the game to watch him but still dropped him. Also it would appear that McINDOE sorted the trial out for him at Brizzle.

Saw him play a few times for the reserves, I'm sure someone will take him on

Well, maybe the lad has learned a lesson then about keeping his mouth shut. Scouts will come back if you're good enough. Managers dont need strife from junior players, they have priorities.

Thanks for the inside EW, and not meaning to disparage your remarks, but if MM knew scouts were coming in to see him, and he had no plans for him, wouldn't have made more sense to play him and maybe get a fee?

Do we know which game it was?

I think it's Mick that might need to learn something. A 20 year old lad asking about his future could hardly be described as giving the manager strife.

I think it was last week and he was down to play but just before the game he got pulled. My lad says it was arguement he had with Mick about him not playing and was told last week his contract which was due to end this Summer would be terminated early

There are ways of going about things though - if he went in effing and jeffing with a big i-am attitude then I think MM is well within his rights to get shot.

Read the report properly guys. MM terminating his contract now means he can sign for any club tomorrow rather than having to wait until Transfer Window opens again in January. That gives him a chance to get fixed up before Christmas. Any club who were interested enough to come to Reserve game can now pick him up.

I think he'll drift out of league football very quickly. I'm not sure he ever even made the bench in a league fixture for us, and seems to have attracted very little attention from lower league clubs. Look at the amount of times the extremely limited Keith Lowe has got a loan move and then there's Riley, who I think trained with Chesterfield earlier in the season and that's it. To be honest, I'm surprised he's been at the club for so long despite being nowhere near the first team. If he couldn't get in last season against Cardiff when we had one fit centre-half and ended up bringing in Craig Fleming, he was never going to get in.

Shame for the lad - Hoddle gave him a pro contract & said he was extremely good at CB. That probably made him ease up. Ryan Green had a similar background. MM & his team are much better than that.

Says it all!

I watched Riley in the reserves recently and he was hopeless. However I hope he can get a club and try to build himself a career.

i can't believe people are using this as a vehicle to moan about mccarthy. In fact, i lie, i knew someone would i just can't believe it isn't stewarton or woburn. Get in the real world people who gives a damn about a player who's never got near the first team and never will.

Real shame, i haven't seen him play for a while now but by all accounts he hasn't developed in the way many of us thought he would. I really thought he would come through along with Hennessey, Davies and Gleeson.
Good luck Martin.
