View Full Version : No McCarthy - We are our own worst enemy!

I have backed MM over various issues because i have totally agreed with his stance. I stand by him over his treatment of players and his insistence on high work rate as a minimum.
I do however feel annoyed with him complaining about the fans on Saturday. I was moaning and groaning(not booing) because we created the situation of hanging on, by our own incompetence. Firstly, our inability to kill the game off(we've been here too many times), and secondly our lack of positivity towards the end of the game. With our lack of invention(mainly S Ward passing backwards rather than attacking the full back and MM not bringing Jarvis on to put them on the back foot), we invited pressure on ourselves. Because we didn't have outlets going forward, we gave the ball away cheaply, didn't pressure quickly enough and high up the field enough, and with the extra possession we gave to them; eventually they were able to find space and time to create opportunities.

Watching this unfold during the second half, $$$$ed me off because it could have been avoided. If the whole crowd had been cheering, it wouldn't have changed the negative football we were playing.
Yes, we can't keep up the pace for 90 mins but i believe we would be better off trying to kill the game as opposed to holding on to a slender lead. Do it for the last 5 mins fair enough but not for 20-25 mins.

MM you're right that negativy feeds from the crowd to the team, but it works both ways. You get what you deserve in life and this team needs to be just slightly more ambitious.

I hope MM speaks his mind more often.

It opens positive debate.

He does it on purpose. He's not as thick as some would say.

I am far happier when Wolves play badly and win, than play well and lose, or draw, which has been the case a fair bit recently. Not saying Saturday was a bad performance, but I did laugh to myself when the bloke sitting next to started to sing 'attack attack attack attck attack'.

Has this witty banter gone completely over my head or are you being serious?

On the other hand .. we all know that we are famous for getting on the players backs ... so maybe just a grain of truth in what he says. On a very good day we have about 25,000 managers at the game and God knows how many listening in.

Perhaps we could get together and ask Steve Morgan if we can buy the club for £20 - a handsome profit, he will have doubled his money - then we can pick the team by committee and let the intelligentsia decide on the tactics.

Come on everyone, admit it we are as negative and moaning as hell. (cue the "i pay £500 every year, so they are answerable to me' tape). You are still moaning about a game we won and it is Wednesday!!

I include myself in all of this (apart from claiming to be in the MM intelligentsia)

Kenny no no no ..please dont ask the audience!!!

Mick is right to a certain extent.

As were many previous Wolves managers who dared mention the dreaded 'Molineux factor'...

I know most of the knuckle-draggers will never accept any form of criticism but there you have it - it's the truth... we can be a terribly negative lot (as can MOST football fans).

And our negativity DOES translate to the players... FACT.

I'm well aware that it's a two-way street but we should try to do our bit at all costs.

Look up the definition of 'SUPPORTER'... I think it will have something to say about getting behind the team in adversity... not simply when we are 3 nil up.

When the lads are playing poorly are they more likely to respond to groans and booing from the crowd..?

Or would a rousing chorus of "COME ON YOU WOLVES" be better for lifting them?

Just think about it for a while.

I know if I was having a bad game or a rough patch of form (Andy Keogh?) that i'd prefer to hear my name being sung rather than a groan every time I misplaced a pass.

I feel Mick is completely correct here and I certainly don't take it as a personal insult (unlike some) when he suggests we are rather negative.

It is totally irrelevant when people say -
"I pay good money to watch Wolves - i'm entitled to have a moan"

What a load of drivel... if all you want to do is exercise your right to have a moan then do it on this forum or boo your heart out at the final whistle if you really must.

Or maybe you should watch your football down the road at the Hawthorns... maybe you can help destabilize them instead of my beloved football club!

It still bewilders me even after all these years of watching Wolves why some so called supporters feel it necessary to boo and slate players whilst a game is still on. It serves absolutely no purpose other than to make things worse as far as I'm concerned.

As for MM's comments, well it's a two way matter as I see it. The fans shouldn't be slating the team when they are winning but trying to give encouragement. However MM should not be letting the side play such negative football clinging onto a narrow lead.

MM was as frustrated as the fans, he was waving players up the pitch and berating them. Problem is the players got in a mind set in that last 10-15 mins and struggled to get out of it.

I know and accept that Kenny but it is down to MM as manager to resolve the matter.
