Great stuff and we haven't got out of 3rd gear yet.

They're fit but it's a totally different thing being ready for competitive games.

Remember gray at the start of the season everybody said his legs had gone because he hadn't had a preseason.

Jarvis is fit but has he played enough football? Judging by MM reluctance no he's not ready.

I imagine after this 2 week break Jarvis will be ready. Maybe that's what MM had planned bring him back slowly get to the international break and let the players get fit and ready for the ####.

I can see where you're going with that Paul, plus Jarvis and Gray will both be important players later on in the season so it's not worth risking them and getting them injured.

Let's be honest, we had a poor preseason this year in spite of MM having more time. However much spin is put on it.

Paul76

We all want to see Jarvis playing because we all want a balanced team. I've been frustrated many times myself seeing S.Ward start but the facts tell there own story and Wolves are doing a decent job.

I can't wait for Jarvis to start but if we bring him back to soon he'll be labeled unfairly.

I've already heard " light weight, YTS boy" and that's only after 45 minutes!

But with a third of the season one the team really should be. It's all well and good saying the squad has injuries to key players etc but it brings me right back to the argument that MM didn't have enough cover for certain positions.

Your correct and I'm just as perplexed as anybody about our left side.

The only thing I can honestly think of is the delayed takeover holding things up.

The board though have came out and said otherwise.

So yes there is no excuse for having no cover on our left.

The takeover apparently didn't delay any player signings Paul76 so there is no excuse other than MM not getting the squad right for the seasons start.

Gray joined unfit whilst the only RB was Little until Foley joined yet McNamara quit at the end of last season so cover for both FB slots was needed at the end of last season.

It just doesn't make any sense to me. We will probably find out more in January as you'd think a left back would be a priority although I'm probably wrong as MM doesn't seem to be that predictable in certain areas, although I'm sure others disagree.

Last season P 16 F 15 A 18 P 26 GD -3
This season P 16 F 18 A 15 P 26 GD +3

This season we've played 8 home and 8 away, last season it was 9 home and 7 away and we'd just lost our last four away games without scoring:

Southampton 0-2
WBA 0-3
Cardiff 0-4
Barnsley 0-1

Poor start then imo.

Remember at this point last season, we didn't have Kites or Keogh.

Jemal Johnson was getting in the side every week along with Clapham.

You could argue in fact that we have gone backwards.

If Gray could stay fit the rest of the season then no LB needed but he is unlikely to so have to agree a LB is needed.

Dont agree with you there Essex. Gray might be ok at left-back when fit but imo he again is not good enough for a side wanting automatic promotion.

Maybe the fixture list is more difficult this season.

We've played some tough games all after each other.

I agree early on SW but once he regained his fitness I thought Gray started to look pretty solid at LB.

Of course I'd like MM to sign better if possible but a fully fit Gray should be good enough at this level?

Bit of an excuse really that.

We'll see where we are in 15 games and compare then. If its similar, you can forget the top two.

Yeah good enough at this level but how about good enough to get you out of this level? I'm not convinced.

Only a run of several games uninjured and with the team gaining good results and solid defensive performances will tell us what the answer is mate but I'd prefer Gray than a CH.

collins is doing ok at the moment at left back, very good actually. He's also our target for set pieces. I think we should be happy with how things are because there seems to be a lot of space for improvement but we are doing so well, once we get the side right we'll $$$$ this league

Was good enough to be Blackburn's left back for a while, I wouldn't say no to some quality cover or another Kevin Foley mind.

You can't slate Neill I thought he was decent on Saturday, regardless of whether or not he scored.

Well we got some really good fixtures coming up against the teams we're expected to beat so let's take another look in say 8 games and see what the difference is then.

Certainly can't knock Collins for his effort and the goals he has scored have both been quality but can't agree he is doing very good at LB. At Ipswich he was torn to shreds and two of their three goals came down the Wolves left where MM first strted with Collins and then Little.

What's happened to Mulgrew? Haven't even heard his name mentioned in weeks?

I reckon Collins is usually at left back because in this League there are so many teams who depend on set pieces going up to big strikers. Gray has no height for set pieces at either end of the pitch. Therefore, as long as Neill is good enough to snuff out right side midfielders, which he is, rather than actual right wingers, he'll be played in those games; Michael Gray in the others. This is not a League in which there are many pacey / tricky threats from the right wing (list them, please, if you think I'm wrong!). I think it was Counago who tore him to pieces at Ipswich, which is what Counago can do to anyone in this League. Collins is still primarily a central defender, but admits this spell is good for his general development. At the moment, he isn't any better than Craddock, Breen or Ward, but he will be in a season or two.

the facts show even with more skilful players in the side mick has to play in a defensive style which doesnt allow the full use of their abilities, caused by our limited central defenders.

Didn't we play Gray in Left Midfield at some point? If thats the case then we have, Collins, Ward, Jarvis and Gray all able to play on the left - plus Mulgrew and Jones. I think at the start of the season - even with Jones going on loan that was enough "cover". Unfortunately at different points in the season (although not every game) Collins or Ward have struggled and it seems unfortunately that Jones isn't thought to be close enough to justify selection. I'd be slightly disappointed if Mick didn't try and off load Jones and/Mulgrew in the January window as currently there is no justification in having them in the squad. I think that either Jarvis playing to his potential or the addition of another left sided player could really help come January - with Gray able to cover both positions.
