If it is perceived we need to get in a target man who can score goals, thoughts have centred around Kyle Lafferty. I would prefer his team mate who has scored 10 already this season. Similar to Raziak and Howard he is a target man who can score. Lafferty has got 1 this season. We have to get someone in who can sniff around the box and Gray fits the bill perfectly.Anyone?

Who does actually score goals. I just hope we don't bust the bank to try to sign Lafferty who quite frankly has done nothing so far in the game. Maybe Gray would be a short term signing ,but hey,if he gets the goals to get us up so be it. The current crop all have good attributes but look at the goals for column-they just can't score !

No we don't want him! This is about the only season he has ever scored consistently.

Hmm. This reminds me of the clamour to sign Constantine last January. We don't need another striker.

Exactly what I thought Del Woppio! That would have been disasterous!

If we don't need a new striker I don't know where the goals will come from on a regular basis. The current crop with the possible exception of FE will not score enough goals to get us in the top 2. Ipswich and Albion have already got 31 goals,we have scored 19 in 16 games . This ratio will ,at best lead to the lottery of the play offs again. Will any one of our strikers get 20?-No! Will our second striker score 15?-No! We have struggled to score goals every season since we came back down. The goals ratio from the present set of strikers is poor. How many will Elliott, Ward, Keogh get between them? I will lay odds they don't manage 22 league goals. Add to this the paucity of output from midfield(MK and George got 19 last season-3 this season). Like I said where are the goals going to come from? Lafferty don't make me laugh!

I think we do need another striker, we have been low scorers for the last few seasons and Ward although a hard worker is not good enough. The club can afford to have a big squad, this is just about building a bigger better squad.

As for Andy Gray - he is a very very good player at this level. I noticed last season when looking at the opta stats. MacIndoe was our highest performer but Andy Gray was consistantly in the top two or three performers week in week out. So would I take him - yes I most certainly would. He is not going to set the Prem alight but how many championship players are capable of that. If we make the prem the we will be cherry picking the relegated teams and looking to better prem youngsters plus the usual overseas players. You may get the one one or two league players that can come into the squad.

But that is for the future, we need players to get out of this division first and Andy Gray would be a solid addition to the squad.

Do we need a target man? Bothroyd aint exactly on the short side is he?

With the signing of a pacey centre half. The return of Gray to left back and the match fitness of Jarvis. The midfield will be free to push further forward more frequently. With Jay and Freddy up top they will not only create openings they will finish more. The addition of a target man striker will send us backwards as the team, when under pressure, will just start lumping balls forward for the target man instead of keeping it down.

I just wish I shared your optimism about the goals. With the current crop -good players some of them may be,it ain't gonna happen! Come back and say " I told you so " if FE gets 20,and JB gets 15,because that is what we will need from our top 2.( Elliott, Keogh and Ward won't score many ) It won't happen, but I will wait for the call.

I know a Sunderland season ticket holder and he says Gray is one of the worst players to have ever pulled on the shirt. I'd rather we signed Akinbiyi.

IMO we already have a good goalscorer in Eastwood and I think he could make the step up. We just need to find a partner for him. If none of the others are good enough then we need replacements.

Not Gray though and the fact that Laferty has only 1 goal might lower his value

The squad doesn't need another striker, just get the right players back from injury and things will improve with a balanced team and players playing in their right positions.

You just never know who might get all the gears working & the team firing on all cylinders. Who would have logically predicted what signing Dougan did for us in the 60s & early 70s? There have been a number of cases of apparent square pegs or has beens suddenly finding a sympathetic milieu & having an Indian summer. Lee Chapman at Leeds , Niall Quinn at Sunderland, Dion Dublin, Hartson & Sutton at Celtic, Geoff Horsfield, Nathan Blake....Perhaps Jay might prove to be just such a catalyst.

Even if we did buy Lafferty he's only 20, he's already proved what potential quality he has by scoring that goal against Sweden.

Emile Heskey isn't an out-and-out striker but he still makes a massive difference to the teams he plays in.

I don't think Lafferty is ever going to score 20 goals a season but he'd do a Heskey job and that's what we're lacking.

I'm not saying I would like Wolves to play like this all the time but it's a different option if things aren't going well in a particular game.

we need to loan a quality prem squad player

wages should not be a problem

loanees are the answer not ageing championship names who cannot step up with us

It also gives defenders something else to deal with, like how Liverpool bring on Peter Crouch - it's a completely new challenge.

Yeah but you've seen in the past how the Albion have relied on loan players then to see them leave and go back to there own clubs.

I don't see the difference really.

Either way the old pro won't be able to step up and the loanee will return back to his club.

We need young players who are still developing.
