apparently going to be playing 4-5-1 with rooney up front by himself. this i feel isnt going to work at all as he drops deep and wiull make it 6 in midfield. the only way id play 1 up top if it the 1 player, despite the amount of stick he gets, was emile heskey...with rooney playing in an eidur gudjohsen role....
heskey
cole&n bsp; rooney wright phillips
similar to wolves line up....

i agree, rooney would be more suited to an attacking midfield role in a 4-5-1 formation, similar to how we (used to) use seol

the formation will work well, its hardly quantum physics, the players will understand it in training and respond accordingly. Next.Edited by: peckhamwolf

I started a thread closed it to post on yours sorry

Can not believe with the talent England has available we are reduced to playing 4-5-1 are we so afraid of losing to Wales, we will play a formation England has never played (I Think) with a Brilliant Striker Rooney was never (I Think) played as a lone striker.

4-5-1 is about not losing and hoping you can nick they game one Nil, Chealski play this boring football, yes it wins them games, but com on give me 4-3 every day, I love our 4-3-3 formation and glad to see Man U have adopted it has wellhttp://d1309274.u29.jodoshared.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif3 strikers Brillant, like Brazil, so what that you score 3 goals we will score 4.

TV money is killing the Premiership, with teams so worried obout losing revenue, they will kill there football.

So Mr Erikson if you are so worried about England losing to Wales, because you do not know how to give 11 overpaid players a kick up the arse, after they rolled over against Denmark, I suggest you step down now.

Sven is just adding midfield slots in the hope of hiding Beckham in one of them - instead of dropping him like he deserves.

I'll add my reply to this thread then!

And I still htink you're talking rubbish!

4-5-1 is not a defensive formation, unless a team makes it a defensive formation! As Peckham said it depends on the style of play employed!

Man Utd's formation that you seem to adore so much is exactly the same as Chelsea's 'boring' formation! In attack it's 4-3-3, in defence it's 4-5-1! Much the same as it will be with England!

And I don't like the bloke, but give Sven some credit! We needed to change something, and he has identified this and is trying to find the right formula to take into the World Cup, I'd rather he made changes than just leave it the same!

First of all, how is that similar to the Wolves formation? smileys/smiley5.gif

And secondly, who out of NBeckham, Gerrard and Lampard will you drop to bring Heskey in? smileys/smiley32.gif

some people on here think that formations are like on championship manager, it makes me wonder whether some posters on here actually even like/watch football.

Siunt, you're wasting your time even discussing this.

Heskey? you've got to be on the wind up

the ridiculous thing is Heskey was useless when employed in a similar sort of role (although different formation) under Houllier at Liverpool, with his back to goal all the time, then goes to Blues and is played as an out-and-out centre forward facing the goal, scores a few goals and looks settled in a system that suits him again, and now some of us reckon we should go back to using him as a target man (even though he spends more time on his arse in a game than mark hughes did in his entire career smileys/smiley9.gif )

I've gone beyond the point of finding this stuff funny now, I'm going to bed.

I'd pick crouch over heskey and thats saying something!

As for the formation, think it could work well. Rooney could give the back four hell. Provided Beckham's disciplined enough to just stick infront of the back fourto just tackle and simply pass the ball, it should give the other 4 licence to cause havoc for Wales further up the pitch. Good to have little Shaun in the side aswell.

Peckham, you do realise Heskey fits in so well at blues because they launch the ball up front to him at every opportunity.

Also i would say playing 5 across the middle against Wales is negative.
