View Full Version : Loan signings

I have just seen on the back of my local (Reading area) free rag that
loan signings are still possible for CC league teams, throughout the
season, starting from one week today. Given this is there not a good
chance that when all the last minute activity has died down there may
well be some Prem team players, uneeded by there clubs available? Are
these short term? IE less than three months Or just for emergencies?
Sidenote. Reading apparently tried to get Davenport from Spurs on a
season long loan but he preferred to stay at Spurs and fight for his
place.
So, to clarify, you are effectively saying the window re-opens again
one week from today to allow possible loan signings into Championship
clubs?

Are you sure about that?

The way I read it on the BBC site - loan signings are only in case of
emergencies - i.e. no fit goalkeepers, but you have to get special
dispensation from the FA.

I know Reading have already got that guy Baradji from West Ham on loan (subject to FA approval).
West Ham only signed him late yesterday.

Sounds right. Not sure what the current rules are but in previous seasons
you were able to apply to bring in on loan a player if you had a player
crisis and could convince the FA that was the case.

on ssn southampton have just announced loan signings, is this just belated or can you still take on loans?

That's what I thought too.

Oh God no. Please, just tell me that the transfer window is well and
truly shut so that we can forget about these poxy rumours and get on
with winning promotion with the squad we already have...
this is 100% true, Warnock, Lee and Sturrock are all looking in time for their next games. No season long loans though, these had to be concluded by yesterday at 5pm, only 3 month loans are permitted (i,e a short term fix to the window in January). We have Postma and Gyepes, how many are we allowed?? any how Hoddle has not mentioned it on the website so he might be content with what he has at his disposel.
I heard we can still bring players in on loan, but the Prem cannot.
i think this would be right actually, as there are 72 Football League clubs experiencing theTransfer Window for the 1st time, so I think the Football League are making special provisions for these clubs.

Think its 3 at any one time and a limit on total numbers in a season. Don't know what that is though.

Far from sure SSW, but that is how I read it. I seem to recall there
being something along the lines that others have mentioned too. IE
limited amounts. 3(?) I am unsure if this includes long term loanees
such as Gypes and Postma or if it means 3(?) short term loans. It would
be foolish really to bring anyone in at this stage though. If any team
did, and then had (for example) injuries to their only goalies, they
would be in deep mire with nowhere to go.
it must be 3 loans at anyone time regardless if they are long or short term. the 3rd loan would not hurt us as much as we have Oakes, Postma, Jones (when his month is up, though it will probaly be extended month by month as long as the other 2 are fit) and i heard Murray is coming back in October, hopefully staying fit as he deserves a break from all these injuries. The SP today mentions the new "Temporary TRansfer" rule for none Premier clubs. saints are trying to get Robbie Blake, Sheff U want Pericard from Pompey and Watford are after Arsenalyoungster Niklas Bendtner, scored 17 reserve & youth team goals last year. So maybe we should be worried Kenny Millar can still go on loan to Carlisle. smileys/smiley1.gif

There's an article in today's Sunday Mirror regarding an Emergency Loan System which comes into force on Tuesday. Apparently Clubs in the Football League can loan as many players as they like as long as the players are employed in the Premier League or Football League. The maximum number of Loan Signings allowed in a 16 man match squad is 5 and the maximum stay as an Emergency Loan Signing is 93 days.
There will be confusion, however. as the Football League state they " have made provision for clubs to take players on short term emergency loans during the closed season in exceptional circumstances"
What a complete mess it all is !

I've seen him play 3 times now. He's rapid, possibly the fastest player in the Arsenal squad!! good skill and strength. Would be a great player to have in the squad IMO. Could also see him doing well in the premiership If we got promoted and they sent him to us on loan.

I remember when the days when you brought in loan signings in because you were too hard up to afford transfer fees (Gordon Smith, Jim Melrose et al). As a fan it was rather disappointing.
