View Full Version : Changing Players to the style of the Manager
Make Eastwood run and run and add more to his game
OR
Make Keogh score more goals to add to his game
Seems to me Mick has a glutton of strikers he wants/needs to turn into something else and a midfield he is happy with but who the supporters want to add something to their game.
Confused? you will be ..

I think it would be simpler if we had a manager that played players in the correct positions, didn't select a side on the basis of who were his mates, and adapted the tactics to maximise the skills of "I haven't got the best squad of players in the world"

And your point is?
What Papper was highlighting was akin to buying a BMW Z4 to use in a removals business, when really you needed a 7.5 Ton Lorry.
I'm sure the coaching team is working on Eastwood's work rate and I'm sure the same thing can be said about Keogh's finishing. It's not just about making Eastwood run and run, it's about making himself available and putting himself in positions to score.
I thought that we bought him because he already knows how to do that Paul!
Coaching never stops, and I'm sure MM knew what he was buying when he paid 1.5 million for him. Obviously MM his not happy with Fred or he feels other players are more deserving of a place. If MM feels Fred can do a job in a particular game he will pick him.

Although the winner against Coventry didn't come from the original delivery from the corner,i think that goal could go down as a "set piece" goal.

For me finishing isnt something you can 'coach'. You've either got it or you aint. And Keogh aint got it.
Eastwood on the other hand has the potential to be one of our best centre forwards of recent times with the right management.

When I went down to training the strikers were having a session on shooting. Elliot, Eastwood and Bothroyd were hitting the corners and finishing very well. Keogh wasn't.......

If only Mick had've thought of that. It's all so easy when you put it that way.
We're watching Championship football. If Keogh could finish well, without detracting from his overall game, he'd be in the Champions League by now. We've got to accept that every single player in the league will have limitations.

Yes I agree with you - expecting players who are under the age of 23 to add new elements to their game is completely absurd. If you buy young players, you should never attempt to get them to improve. They are who they are.
In fact, I don't think players should bother to train at all.

Don't think you'll find a player at any level that puts more effort into a game than Keogh so can fully understand MM's decision to keep playing and backing him. The problem is though with Keogh struggling to find the net then you need at least one forward who can and the current duo MM puts so much faith in doesn't have one.
MM signed Eastwood and as I keep saying should have known the type of player he was getting and if he didn't then more fool him.

But its not unreasonable to try and get Eastwood to up his workrate. Players like Kightly match ability with hard work and thats what Eastwood should do.
It's not really a hard thing to do. He has the talent thats something you can't coach into someone. Work-ethic is something he can work on.

You can't expect him to have advanced psychoanalysis results for every player he wants to buy. Eastwood needs to work more for the team, simple as that, nothing that should be difficult for a player to change.

My point is Nashie and WOS is that MM has slated Eastwood in public and made a big thing about work rate etc. He should have known prior to signing him that Eastwood has never been an up and at em player who does lots of running about.
Had he been a real workhorse but became lazy on his arrival at Molineux then he deserves some criticism but he wasn't and never has been. MM is slating him for being what he always has been.

Something like work ethic is not really that hard to change imo. If he was complaining that he was not hitting 35 yard top corner bullets every game then i'd say that was unrealistic, but not putting yourself about a bit more.

that sounds like a unique way to score set pieces, take it yourself and then finish it :D
